hhhmmm I was sure the IG would sweep this battle with their massively strong firepower. It did not however take into account the craftieness of the nid general

Nid general and IG general were one and the same (I think). Tyranids are just really hard this edition.

Yeah, it was a test game against myself. Unfortunately, my brother who brought me into 40k is busy with family and other "games" to be my testing partner. I also have another friend, SabrX, who sometimes helps me to test out certain competitive builds but he is currently busy with school. But he is going on winter break soon and we will be getting some games in in the near future.

I too am guilty of solo playing to test certain lists, or just out of boredom. So don't feel bad about that part, jy2, and hopefully you'll get some non-AI games in soon.

Yeah, I usually get in a game at my LGS at least once per week, though the people there don't really bring the kind of highly-optimized lists that I normally use in my test games.

Nice report!
Guard firepower can be devastating, but I think a lot of it also becomes very situational - a turn's worth of night fighting, facing big nids instead of small ones, etc, can often swing things dramatically.

Definitely. Guards still have some awesome firepower, but there are other variables at play and not just sheer firepower. Factors such as terrain, first turn, deployment, how reserves come in, etc. also play a large part in such battles as well.
