You don't think GW went to Mythic and Relic and just said "Do whatever you want with it!".

Of course you’ll need to always be online to play, but there will be a real money auction house where you can buy all the best weapons!

You know, at least it would mean that the Inquisition was getting some love.

Personally I think that ME3 was absolutely awesome. I only played it after the extended ending was published though, absolutely loved it.

Off Topically Bioware has been going downhill since the acquisition by EA, and really they better score well with DA3 or I think they may lose their gods of gaming license.

Of all the developers I think Sega or Valve would do the greatest justice to a 40k ip, with an honorable mention going out to Bethesda if they kept it RPG only.

Sure, Valve would do great justice to anything, but frankly I don't want Dawn of War III - coming Spring 2043 from Valve!

When I was typing that I did actually think to myself that if Relic were acquired by them they would be subject to Valve Time.

I think it's worth pointing out that the title is incorrect.

Relic does not hold the Warhammer 40,000 license, THQ does. Relic just works on some games using it.

So Relic being bought by EA won't do a thing to the Warhammer 40k license.

However, what happens to the 40k license might be interesting. GW might pull it, rather than let it go to another company.

Unlikely that the license would transfer to a new owner because of this ^. Both Armorcast license agreements had this type of clause: if the company got sold or transferred to new owners the 40K license automatically ended.

Ye, many people are misjudging what Valve does. They are a greedy company just like the rest of them. Remember Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2? Or what became of Team Fortress 2? Or changing from a shop to a "subscribed rental centre" to avoid the EU laws that would otherwise make Valve revamp Steam completely. Or for years equating 1 USD with 1 EUR?

Ye, Valve's not really much different.

Adds a few bits and pieces, not much.

Now Distressed Debt Investing reports that an auction for THQ's assets will take place on January 22nd.

“Parties have come to agreement: THQ auction now on Jan 22nd,” it said on Twitter. “The auction will allow for piecemeal ("title by title") sales of THQ assets.”

It may be worth pointing out that many licensing contracts include clauses where the licensor can void the contract in the event of ownership change or bankruptcy. I don't know if that's the case here, but it's certainly happened in the game industry previously.

For example - when Hasbro bought Last Unicorn Games in the '90s, they made the purchase in order to acquire the RPG licenses for Dune and Star Trek. The event of the sale caused both licenses to revert to the IP holders. WotC/Hasbro ended up owning a new design studio with nothing for them to work on.

DoW3 means whoever buys the DoW franchise. GW has no control over that. What you say is fine and dandy and true but does not change my point.

Considering how much combat there would be in a Necromunda game, I would not let Bethesda go near the damn thing.

Now, if they were making a 40k hiking simulator... that would be something!

What were saying here is in THQ we trusted?

I mean seriously you've just discounted pretty much every mainstream video game developer, except Paradox of course... Come to think of it a 40K grand strategy game would be awesome. Just for Gods sake don't let them design the net code for it, for those who don;t know paradox games often server from a slightly unstable multi-player experience, and by slightly unstable imagine the San Andreas Faultline with a few high yield nuclear munitions buried under it.

What's going on with company of heros 2 then? That is due for release very soon and could inject relic with some serious cash.
I personally wouldn't want ea anywhere near them, they always push their developers to release games before they are ready I don't think I have ever touched one of there products that was either full of bugs or patched on release day!

With creative assembly getting the Fantasy license I wonder if Sega would be interested in Relic.

I'd say they would have control over who ends up with their IP license. And your point was about not being able to control what platforms the game would be on:

"How would GW have any control over what platforms games made by another company end up on?"

Which they absolutely would. If they said they wanted a Mobile game, and would not grant the license otherwise, then by the Emperor that company's gonna make a mobile game (or nothing).

Actually, I would totally buy that.

Did you miss the Gorkamorka game?

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

No they can't, but they can make very memorable games that do quite well once it's patched, and often times becomes a classic in a game series.

Such as Fallout New Vegas, stayed true to the original roots, didn't go nuts or made stupid changes to the lore, kept old in-jokes and made the game quite viable in many ways, and the things they did change they made sure to do properly.

I can handle a few buggy versions so long as they make a good, quality game behind it..And so long as they patch it.

Even the DLC was very good, and didn't attempt to do in such things like "Horse Armor", but each DLC was either full fledged campaigns, or added more then just a few simple guns (The gun pack had both achievements, updates to weaponry, and far more guns and mods that's needed.

Ubisoft, while home to a lot of great ideas, tend to fall flat in execution.

Assassin's Creed and their Far Cry series have a lot of big, good, interesting ideas, but then you spend the entire game doing the same one or two things over and over and over again. They make very repetitive games as of late. Their ideas are solid, but they tend to not utilize them properly.

I, for one, however would be most pleased with a Splinter Cell style Inquisitor game.

Bethesda has a lot of talent, and bugs aside, they build some of the best game worlds out there. I personally loathe fantasy, but Skyrim was an absolute treat. I'd like to see what they could come up with regarding 40k, but I imagine whoever picks up the license would want to continue the Dawn of War franchise, since it's already established and recongized, and strategy isn't Bethesda's strong suit.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

EA has been trying and failing to make an mmo for awhile. Their star wars mmo's are a disgrace. Perhaps they will revive the 40k mmo that we've seen teasers of as what we saw of the game looked quite good.

The SM fps could also use an expansion as the graphics and engine are still fine, but the community has dried up due to releases of big ticket games like COD and BF around the same time. For what it was, SM was amazing though.

EA does front a lot of cash for big games, they just seem to rush them out the door too soon. An EA game is better than no game imo.

DoWIII, DMO, or a SM sequel is all that should be considered right now. RTS and shooters will move units and make the franchise a household name. Which should hopefully get more people into the hobby and eventually lower prices (in a perfect world anyways).

The tabletop prices I wouldn't ever to expect to drop and, imo, GW has priced themselves out of the market if they expect random video game fans to partake in the hobby.

Up for sale are original IP. Saints Row, Company of Heroes, Darksiders, Homefront, and Metro.

The IP is not being sold alongside the studios that work on them. The studios are for sale separately.

Game franchises based on licensed IP, which THQ also owns a ton of, are not for sale in this auction. Those titles would include Space Marine (Vigil), Dawn of War (Relic), and DMO (Vigil). Most likely they will die when THQ closes.

Furthermore it will be revealed how much debt THQ actually owes some of these original IP owners. For example THQ owes the WWE 45 million. It very well could come to light that THQ owes GW money as well.

The lack of 40k video games in general is a distressing. It's probably one of the best settings orientated for a video gaming platform out there, capable of being everything from MMO to RTS to FPS quite easily.

I have thousands of dollars of 40K miniatures thanks to the Space Marine game. Its what got me into the hobby. I watched the trailer, played the demo, bought the game, and gave GW my wallet.
