What do you hate about them? I mean, the new books have flaws, sure, but it's not like the old books are obviously better.
I mean, then old WoC book got updated for a good reason, and it wasn't to keep the army competitive; the army was already awesome. They updated it to keep it balanced and well-rounded.

All of the currently understood "cheese" books are old books.
While there are some strong 8th edition books, none are in the same class as Lizardmen, Dark Elves, Daemons, or the (old) WoC.

I do like to think that the design team is trying to make a good game, in addition to one that makes money. Ideally, of course, those would be one and the same.
