I have been to elite and bought some models but I don't really know anyone so its a little awkward to go and just randomly ask someone to teach me haha. I was hoping there was someplace I could go where they could teach me again haha

Often the easiest way to get hooked in and arrange a game is to do what you're doing here (ask online), but for/on the local store's website.

Might want to give Jetpack a call; last I heard they were trying to build a community with some new players. They seem to have "wargaming Saturdays", according to their newsletter. I don't see a forum on the site, but maybe if you call they can point you at one.

Elite used to have a store website with an attached forum for Seacoast Wargamers, as I recall, but I'm not finding it now. They do have a current Facebook page:

On a related note, it looks like someone has organized a boardgaming meetup in Portsmouth, too, so there may be some player overlap between that and 40k or other tabletop minis.

I've gamed at Jetpack Comics from day one pretty much. Their community has grown A LOT in the past year and on saturdays you can find a really cool group of gamers who will be more than willing to help you out to learn the game and get some games in.

This post goes out to all the gamer that viewed this thread thinking it was truly a "wargaming" resource. Im sorry. Cleary the GW brain washing is taking effect. I realize there are so many games out there that are not produced by GW and are really fun great games. I dont play these games because i enjoy 40k enough that it satisfies my table top fix. I would really love to include all War games into our resource but its just not a realistic possibility for me to take on. That being said, This thread is dedicated to 40k with the occasional fantasy splashed in. The title will be changed to more appropriately reflect this.

As always this thread and group will be dedicated to growing the 40k community in the local area and helping new and veteran players network and expand their game experiences.

I have been a lurker for some time now while I was getting my army painted. I live in Manchester NH and am looking for someone to show me the ropes of the game. My son and I have played a little at the kitchen table but I am now ready to step it up a bit. Anyone interested in the southern NH area willing to play a few games with a totally new player and show me the ropes?

In other news i just booked a four night stay at the Arlingron Hyatt for the Nova Open. Im wondering if any other local players are going and got rooms or plan too because im driving my SUV down and have plenty of room to carpool another person or two. So if anyone in the area is going and wants a really affordable+better than a train way to get down there let me know. Il be leaving august 28th and returning late september 1st.

The Game Castle in Londonderry is just starting an 1850 "Road to Feast of Blades" league. It technically started this last Saturday (though people are just starting to sign up), and the finals are scheduled for June 15th.

Everyone's always welcome. I don't remember seeing a min # of games; usually you have to play at least 5 or so to qualify for the finals.

Any day or night you can schedule a game is okay. Historically the most active days are Tuesday evenings and Saturdays, although I’ve gotten league games other nights by scheduling them ahead of time.

From North Andover to The Game Castle in Londonderry, NH should be less than a half hour without traffic. Of course, that may be more like an hour with traffic if you're leaving directly from work at 5, as 93N can be quite congested at that time of day. If you work a different schedule (getting out earlier or later) it'll be a breeze.

It's about the same distance to get to The Toy Soldier in Amesbury, MA although I don't know how 495N compares, traffic-wise.

There's also a newer place, Tabletop Arena, in Lowell, MA. That's only around 20min from you (if that), and it's mostly 495S, so may be against the flow of traffic and less commute time during rush hour.

Anyone know the status of That's Entertainment in Fitchburg, MA? I heard through the grapevine that they expanded to include the neighboring store space & created a gaming area, but I have not seen it myself.

Going to Game Castle tonight to look for pick up games with my room-mate. hope to see some people.

Do "pick up games" happen there Tuesday evenings? I am new looking to learn the game and would like to plat a pick up game. I am finally done teaching for the semester so my evenings are free now.

Sorry I missed your post, Lobo. Yes, some pick up games happen. 40k's been a bit on the slower side recently, but I'm almost always looking for a game, and there have been several newer players around recently playing low-point games.

Thanks. I probably can't make this coming Tuesday, but might be able to make it the week after. Looking forward to getting in some games. I have not played really as I was getting my army painted. It is all painted up now ready for some action on the table.

Nice! I believe the 21st I'm supposed to have a game at Myriad in Manchester, but I certainly wouldn't be averse to a second. I'll see if I can firm up the details on that one.

1000 to 1250 is probably good. That is about all I have painted.

Yes, I mentioned them a few posts up. Do you play there, Thortek? I got the newsletter email from them yesterday that they were having a 1500pt tournament today, but it was a bit too short notice for me to make it.

I just found out about a school event for my son on the 21st so I can't do it then. The 28th is out for me too because of a work event. Maybe the first Tuesday in June.

I should be around that Tuesday.

I just want to mention a couple quick things:

1) Thanks to the guys at the Game Castle in Londonderry for putting on a great tournament today. The turnout was a little low but everyone had a great time and a lot of good 40K was played.

2) The 40k group at Collectibles Unlimited in Concord is starting a monthly 3-round 650pt tournament. The entry fee is $10. The tournaments will take place on the second Tuesday of each month, starting on June 10th. Games start at 5:30pm. 100% of entry money will go to prizes. It will be a very fun and laid back tournament environment.

The Collectibles group has grown significantly recently, but most of the players are new or not experienced in the cut-throat tournament world.

The idea behind this tournament series is to encourage quality, "rules correct" play in a fun and light atmosphere. The mission and organizational rules are based on a modified "40k in 40 minutes" system, with limits on FOC, vehicle armor ratings, and wounds-per-model. There is a strict 1 hour time limit per game.

There will be a carry-over penalty and bonus system for point limits between months to give advantages to lower placed players in an effort to ensure that every player is competitive and is having fun. (Ex: 1st place players in month #1 will have 30 points fewer in month #2, while the last placed player in month #1 will have 30 more points in month #2)

Bonus points are allotted to fully painted and fully WYSIWYG armies.

Prizes will be split between first, second, third, and last "pity" place finishers. We want as many players as possible to win some store credit so that they may expand their own army while also supporting a great local gaming store.

Please spread the word to your local clubs. This is a perfect opportunity for new players to enter the tournament-style 40k gaming world, and a wonderful opportunity for experienced players to show their mettle in a 3-hour 3-game format.
