First post and some images of the first model I have ever painted. Any comments are welcome. Now that I have some minis painted I think I am ready to actually start playing.

They look really nice, good use of complementary colors to spice them up just enough.

These are you first painted minis? Lies! That can't be! These look amazing, man! I'm usually not one for bright and colorful models, but that red and green color scheme really looks sharp. Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments and my response to a couple of them.

What did you name this chapter?

No name for the chapter. I am more interested in the modeling/painting and the game part of the hobby. Do know much about the fluff. I am open to suggestions for a chapter name.

They're really nice. Good work. The bases are cool.

Made the bases from model railroad sand and foliage. I then added a couple of tiny rocks from the garden. It adds a bit of texture and realisim. It also make the bases have just a bit of weight making the mini nice to pick up and move around the table.

I have ~1,800 points. AOBR box and Marine battleforce. I added in an assault termies and 1/2 a devastator squard from 2nd hand minis at the local game store. I also have a razorback to assemble and just got DV to get the new rulebook so I can add in those minis soon.

Honest these are the first minis I have ever done. The color scheme was picked by my son. His favorite color is green. The red he picked out would have made them look a bit "Christmas" so I used a darker value maroon color. Then stuck to metalics and neutrals to finish off the details. I did experiment with a "camo" pattern on the pants of the scouts (I think you can see it in the pic of the sgt.)q

Judging by how you have the bare heads down, I am highly suspicious that these are truely your first minis ever! Either way good work!

Looks great! And don't have any doubt these are your first minis.

Its different when a 12 year old starts painting for the first time compared to a grown man or woman.

Patience is something most 12 year olds don't have in abundance, leading to sloppy paintjobs or poor quality overall.

A father/mother though...they have patience in droves, which coincidentally is the best quality to have when starting out painting models

I highly recommend getting into the fluff a bit more. Not only is it one of the richest and most involved backgrounds in any sci-fi franchise, it's got enough variety to appeal to pretty much any kind of taste. In addition to that, I find that involvement with the background can inform the painting/modelling to a huge degree.

That being said, I really like your army! You have the bold primary colors and simple metallic devices that are synonymous with the heraldric tradition that the Space Marines are mired in down pat. I had to double-check the original post to make sure that you weren't doing an existing chapter. This army looks really professional.

As to a name, the earthy tones put me in mind of a rugged wilderness setting, and the metallic devices on the shoulderpads remind me of archaic military honors, so what about the Knights of Arbor? (Is that taken? Did I rip that off of something?) Or, perhaps, the Knights of Wold, or the Frith Knights. (Both archaic terms for forests.)

Any way you want to cut it, great work. Awesome army.

Welcome to the Freakshow!

Nice minis, really well done.

I especially like your combi-plasma..how was it made? Simply cutting part of a plasmagun and gluing it to the boltgun?

And Go with the Claus chapter, for that extra Christmas feel to it.

Thanks. I made the combi plasma from an extra plasma pistol cut and glued to the bottom of a modified bolter. I was happy with the result.

I have a couple more pics to share form terminators I recently finished. I took the AoBR terminator squad and combined them with the DV terminators to get a 10 man TAC terminator squad. I converted the DV Sgt. By removing the wings on the helmet and the sword in his hand. I created a chainfist out of some extra bits. I think it came out ok even if the fist looks small.

I also finished up the DV Libby.

Nice start, really like the colour set! a little heavy on the gloss for my taste but will help with hardyness! Normally im not a fan of flame decal but yours are quite good. If you like the flame decals maybe go with a name like Fire Servants or if green is the main thing how about Virdant Guard?

Looks good. What kind if paints are you using? If I am asking a question that has already been asked I'm sorry, I didn't read all if the posts here. The models looks shiny, is that a gloss applied after you painted?

At risk of offending the paint purists, I use paints from the craft store.

The models are a bit shiny because I finish with quick shade. It shades in the model for me a leaves a protective coat for the paint. I have not used any dull coat on them. Actually the minis I finished first have lost most of the glossy look as they have aged a bit and gotten used.
