Buh, I barely looked at the DA Tacs before because I assume all Tactical squads to be more or less the same, but they have a special rule that makes it so that they cannot choose to fail a leadership test.

Um, guys? That's a gigantic difference between DA Tacs and Vanilla Tacs, and frankly one I'm not excited about. This is gonna suck, lol.

They're effectively Fearless though for purposes of regular Morale tests. It's not the worst possible setup but yeah, Combat Tactics is legit as others have said. SCs in Codex: SM provide for force multipliers or in the case of Marneus Calgar you can choose to fail any Morale test .... e.g. Rapid fire, get charged, fall back, Rapid fire again. Awesome.

If my DA Tacs get into combat they're going to be screwed. I'm going to have to think of some way to resolve deepstriking units in backfield against my Plasma Cannon squads.

DA Tacs didn't have combat tactics in the last codex... Not a relevation. New to DAs I suspect?

Yeah I just bought Dark Vengeance and decided I would use DA as a vehicle to get into the hobby.

I held off on buying the old DA Codex since this one was incoming. I thought it would be a great time to get into 6th edition.

DA Tacs do fine without CT. Its not the end all, but very useful. Not a requirement by any stretch. DA Tacs bring volume of fire and AP2 at dirt cheap investment of points.

I think it's mostly the fact that Grey Hunters can just chill, Rapid Fire, and then they get Bolter overwatch, Pistol + CCW bonus, and Counterattack bonus.

yea, that they get most of those extra gear/ability for free doesnt help either.

About GHs.

Don't forgot the option of power weapons/MotW without a SGT.

Comparing them to GH or C:SM Tac marines is just apples to oranges. If you have decided to play DA that's it, you are stuck with what they get, but it's not bad all things considered.

Grim Resolve is just a different tool in the kit. Think of it this way: a unit that gets stuck in combat with DA's has to kill them all or will be pinned by them until they are all dead, there's a chance for them to break and pull back and if this happens in their opponent's combat phase awesome. Meanwhile there are DA beatsticks headed in to relieve the Tac squads, and/or other Tac squads moving in on vital objectives.

Also, while I agree combat tactics is awesome in 6th, you still have to beat your opponent in a sweeping advance roll or get caught by them all over again, it's not a guaranteed hit-and-run type ability.

RavenWing bikers, though stubborn, have hit and run which mean they can still break from CC and shoot again.

If troops dropping into your backfield is an issue build protection into it.
3 tacs w ml and plasma in each w cmd squad with salvo banner will secure a large area on your zone. Your looking at over a 100 bolter shots, 3 pg and 3 ml.
comes in around 700 points 1300 to set up multiple options.

They say you never appreciate what you have until it is gone. I fear that isn't true for your mind.

Great point for Ravenwing, not for Tacticals, unfortunately.

I really like the DA tacticals. In fact I really like the greenwing options. A few days ago I was reading the DA codex and just theorizing lists, you can get 77 Tac marines in at 2K. That includes 8 PC, 6 LC, 9 melta type weapons, 6 flamers and 6 drop pods and azrael! Not a tourny winner, but 77 marines is 77marines. If I didn't have way to many models already I would love to collect that army.

What I think is good is the fact that you can get a 5 man squad with a Multi-Melta, which you cannot do in C:SM. In fact, in any other Codex, any 5 man squad can only get a Meltagun.

But I don't know how much better functionally a MM is over a Meltagun considering that most people seem to be talking about using Meltaguns in droppod lists, which sounds like a smart way to leverage their limited range.

Also exciting is the prospect of Plasma Cannon spam....I don't think any other Codex can do this, including Codex: SW. We have a unique opportunity in this dex to leverage as many Plasma Cannons as humanly possible. Plasma Cannons on 5 man Tactical squads, TL Plasma Cannons on Deepstriking Terminators, 3-4 Plasma Cannons on Devastator Squads...
