Vehicles? most AV 10 are transports ... i like to deal with that in the shooting phase before its too late to do anything about the occupants.
Still agree to disagree i wish you well with your mauls.
the only vehicles that dont have AV10 rear armor are Land Raiders(transport), Stormraven(transport), Stormtalen(flyer), Ghost arch(Transport) and LR demolishers. There are countless other vehicles in the game, and most are not transports.
as for my luck with mauls, I either run naked or take lightning claws with my Chaos army or naked/venom blades with DE considering the meta I think it is almost useless to spend 15 points on a combat upgrade that might get used.

So you don't use mauls ...

Every Necron vehicle has rear armour 11 except the Monolith, which is 14 all around.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm going to have to agree with Krellnus on this one, maul is definitely going to be causing more wounds on anything than the sword

I'm a returning player, in 3rd edition fists seemed to be the way forward, and i've seen virtually no mention of them in this thread, are they terrible now? i just loved the fact they caused id with no save against almost anything, and could also smash most tanks ( playing as marines of course) i scored a set of 5 storm shields, fists and cloaks and was going to make a vanguard squad as a general all round melee bruiser squad, beginning to think there is some terrible flaw in my plan!!!

Fists aren't bad, but generally they're 5-10pts more than a power weapon, and most people are willing to trade-off that difference for either an axe or a power sword and meltabomb (since grenades damage more reliably now).

Mauls are better vs anything that's not in PA. Most armies are in PA, however.
If you don't fight a lot of space marines in your local meta, or do but they are all packing lots of TDA, the Maul is probably a better choice.
However, Swords will still wound on 3+ (assuming you are a marine) against most non-marine level armies, which means you are still going to wound most of the time you hit.
However, a maul ID'ing a Commissar or a Colonel is always nice.

Thanks, yeah been looking at all the grenade stuff now, they really made grenades good for something! I always thought frag grenades should be able to be used offensively

That really depends on your meta.

The difference is fists have one less attack. Lets take the average marine captain with 3 attacks.
With an axe he will do
2/3 * 2/3 * 4 = 1.7777 wounds to a MEQ unit.
With a fist he will do
2/3 * 5/6 * 3 = 1.6667 wounds to a MEQ unit.
When attacking T4 MEQ, the power axe is actually a better weapon (barring the round you assault). The power fist gives you options to hurt higher toughness targerts or high AV. If your looking for something to go choppy on MEQ -- take the axe.

Take em. I'm sick of facing daemons, orks, DE beast packs, and 'crons.
I miss facing SW, BA, DA, and C: SM.

Of course fist will ID T4 models and you don't need to carry a pistol so you're free to take a stormbolter or combi.

Or you take another 'Special Weapon' so you DO get the extra attacks. I am enjoying the PF+ LC combo. So you don't have a pistol attack...eh. Not much of a loss.

Well what is it, then?
(with S+2 AP 1 Armorbane striking at initiative, it certainly SEEMS like a contender for "best power weapon")
