You can now get 3-4 books in an omnibus. There are 3 omnibuses currently: The Founding, The Saint and The Lost.
Read them all. Trust.

This.I love the series and urge you to start at the beginning.Particular favourites of mine are Necropolis,Honour Guard,Traitor General and Blood Pact.

I recommend starting at the beggining too but I actually really like First & Only and Ghostmaker. I find some of The Saint gets in a bit of a rut.

I really want to read this series now, thanks for all your replies. I've started reading the firedrake trilogy, but Gaunts Ghosts is next on the list.

I went to re read the first omnibus and couldn't find it. I just now remembered I loaned it to a friend more than a year ago and I still haven't gotten it back :(

Now I want to read them all again. There's a couple of books that are slightly linked to the series as well, like 'Double Eagle', which uses a few characters that were in one of the books.

'Try again, Bragg.'

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

the final arc is currently in progress, there should be one or two more going by current trends

Has it been announced that this is the final arc? I know it's called The Victory, which certainly implies that but Abnett has said that he plans to keep writing the series either until people stop buying them or all the characters are dead.

He's mentioned a possible prequel arc, dealing with Gaunt's service with the Hrykan 8th. So that's another three, at least.

Homebrew Imperial Guard: 1222nd Etrurian Lancers (Winged); Special Air-Assault Brigade (SAAB)
Homebrew Chaos: The Black Suns; A Medrengard Militia (think Iron Warriors-centric Blood Pact/Sons of Sek)

That'd be quite nice as well

Of course we have a couple of flashbacks already but not much beyond those

Salvation's Reach contains what will be an awful lot of spoilers, an *awful* lot, for someone who hasn't read the others.

I really would suggest starting from the beginning, Abnett's Ghosts book is arguably the best and most consistently good series of 40K books there is.

Sad I don't see Bonin get his due - I mean, the man's a legend too, deserves to be named along with those two.

Bonin's a Determinator, he just keeps going despite being horribly injured. He's not like Marbo, more like Sean Bean's many characters, except he's not dead yet.

Run a whole lot of wfrp and other rpg's, play The Woods and Kill Team, gather and look mournfully at imperial guard knowing I'll never finish enough to use them on the tabletop

Except he was born under a lucky star and as a result hasn't ended up like every single one of Sean Bean's characters (Didn't even Sharpe die in the end?)

Seriously read all the novels before salvations reach,.. A lot of thing happen, bonds are made and bonds are broken between the ghosts. Gaunt's ghost are aaaaaawesome! Plus they are dirt cheap in omnibus,.. even cheaper if you download them

Nope, there is no death of Sharpe in either the books or the movies. In fact the son he has with Lucille turns up in some of BC's other books about the ACW...

Do an online search for the paperback omnibuses - The Founding, The Saint and The Lost. That's the first eleven books. Abnett's halfway through The Victory at the moment, the fourth - and possibly final - omnibus, or "arc" in the current series.

Anyway, the paperback omnibuses are by far the most cheap option.

Ain't nothing can kill Sharpie *twitch* They flogged the bugger and he didn't die, they stopped the flogging, ruined the justice they did, you can't stop an honest flogging, see sir? *twitch* The Frenchies can't do for him, bastards *twitch* but I can kill him, yes sir, I can kill him, because I'm blessed by God, I can't die mother, see my neck? i can't die. Oh mother. *twitch*

And do read the gaunt books, salvations reach is the only one I wasn't really that much of a fan of, and thats because I felt it would have been better being longer and resolving the story.
