I see the merits of the beast unit and don't disagree on the merits.

I like the rerollable save that fortune allows, so I'd still go with the seer council/harliestar. Having read some more about it, I'm a bit less enthusiastic, especially given the helldrake situation.

I've seen a lot of argument for Fuegan, anyone use Jain or Karandras or the other lords? What about the Avatar (or is that too ridiculous?)

Understandable. I tend to think that the Beastpack has some nice advantages in that it is a bit cheaper than the other two.

I think that Fuegan, Maugen Ra, and Kandaras are all solid characters. I don't like the Avatar as much (and it isn't an IC).

they get 2++ in the open, with karandras they get infiltrate, all are FoF.

Check the FAQs. He sadly does not confer infiltrate on joined units besides Scorpions.

The Harlies in the army would be Eldar Harlies. You can fortune Eldar Harlies. You then attach a dark eldar I.C. to the unit.

My understanding is that the unit of Eldar Harlies + DE I.C. stays an Eldar Unit for the purposes of Fortune.

Correct.

But the DE character cannot use the fortune even when he attached to the unit, right?

Yes, he can. The FAQ restriction only applies to the targeting of Fortune, not to the use of it. Because the DE character is part of an Eldar unit, he is a valid target. Once Fortune is cast, he can make use of it normally.

Are their any rules backing this up? Don't get me wrong, I really like it to be true but i want to avoid the discussion with my opponent.

FAQ:

Q: Do Dark Eldar allies count as Eldar for the Farseer psychic powers Fortune and Guide? (p28) A: No.

Yes, the psychic power will only target Eldar units but is it fair to say that after that the dark eldar characters will also be part of the "unit" that gains the power.

mmmmm....(thinking, thinking)....

Ah well, its RAW so opponent...deal with it!

Look at the Codex:Eldar description's of Fortune and Guide.

What is an Eldar unit? That's the key distinction.

Yes, an DE archon joining a Codex:Eldar Harlie squad... that squad is still an "Eldar unit". Therefore, Fortune/Guide would still work affecting the DE model.
