Eradicators are actually quite scary for a player of 4+ saves...

lol.

You know, the one that's really surprising me is just how badly the exterminator is doing. I would have thought it was a little more popular than a three-way tie for 4th.

Not really to me.

It's a niche tank that is competing against the two other niche tanks. All 3 are good at a certain role, but they're either extremely specialized, slightly expensive compared to other choices for their role, or seem too lightly armed.

LRBT is cheap enough that you can just throw a box full of them on the table and kill anything through weight of fire. (argue all you want, but throw enough AP S8 Ordnance at something and it'll die, as long as its not flying)

Executioners can kill literally anything in the game that doesn't fly or is AV 14, and a couple of them can clear off a table so fast it's scary, especially if your opponent screwed up and bunched up in a couple of spots. They also have the weight of fire like you can get with a large amount of regular LRBT's, since they fire multiple small blasts, so you can even hunt MC's or heroes if you had to.

Demolishers can kill almost anything they can fit under a pieplate if they hit, but they can be hit and miss, lack the weight of fire to kill things like MC's and heroes, and are slow for their intended role (line breaker tanks), so they make a logical 3rd place.

But the 3 tied for 4th all have some sort of major target that they just can't really deal with. Vanquisher just can't kill hordes, Punishers can't punish anything over AV 11 (12 if you have pask) and the Exterminator can technically kill most things, but it's mediocre at almost everything, and lacks the AP 3 S8 pieplate of hate that the beloved LRBT is known for. It's basically a jack of all trade/master of none like the LRBT, but lacks the flashiness of the big cannon to make it stand out, as well as a fairly deserved reputation that it's undergunned for what it is. Yes you can turn it into a scary tank, but by that point you usually only need to spend a few more points and then you've got an Executioner, or a Pask Punisher. As much as I hate to say it, the tank is ranked pretty fairly I would say. Which sucks because I have 2 of them

Its a sci-fi combat game... how much more sci-fi can you get than throwing big balls of burning star at your enemies

I used to field a standard russ as naked with a lascannon, highly effective medium vehicle killer I found, I prefer the battletank load out, extra heavy bolters means less tanks which is bad imo.

but now it looks like I'd have to see what I wanted first

a good all rounder would be: Exterminator, hull lascannon and sponson heavy bolters, throw pask in this and you have a anti-light tank monster

anti infantry: Eradicator , hull and side heavy bolters with a heavy stubber

at least with non-ordinance main weapons Its now possible to fire all the weapons.

I personally have never had problems with ordinance weapons, yea some times they miss, but so long as it's in range, just make sure if you miss, its not a problem, i.e. you are not going to lose a tank.

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

I field a vanilla Russ and a Demolisher, but I find myself leaning on the demolisher more and more. It has proved extremely deadly as a linebreaker tank, and if it hits, it kills, shattering whole squads at a time.

I think I'll try just running 2 demolishers in my next list, they honestly accomplish more than my vanilla one. Either way, I run them naked with the standard heavy bolter. Unless I start running non-Ordnance, sponsons and fancier hull guns were just extra points spent for the occasional rare snap shot.

My own variant called the Leman Russ Destroyer

its armed with the meltastorm cannon which is a str 8 large blast heavy 4 weapon and it can take meltacannon(the devil dog cannon) as sponsons. For 30 points, it can replace them with executioner cannons.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
