I also asked about things on their facebook page and they're not expecting people to convert the models. Actually, looking at the stats and things, I'd say they're more expecting people to paint up the Dark Vengeance Cultists instead.
I'm just going to trudge back into my cave.. think it would be better for everyone...

Oh Yeah! Glad to see Genes back in action! Simply the best GW idea for a faction ever. Hopefully they will have more love than just a weekend.

It would have been nice if it was World Wide, and GW like in Canada would do this as well.
At least GW is starting to do these things again. I like it. Just wish I could take part.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

You can. Just do some scenario battles and a mini campaign with your mates, and either ladder or map it and design some off side missions, skirmish's, a couple of mass fights, and some other stuff in thier.
You don't need them to dictate the terms of your campaign, either.
I like the Genestealer cult idea. shame they won't take it any farther then a tease and more of that craptastic "Oh, look how cool we USED to be." routine.
Done right, they could include people. continued done in the standard issue GW "We can do no wrong" style- it will be just another missed opportunity.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

A friend and I are seriously considering each fielding a superheavy for our 'doubles' apocalypse game on the last day...
