You mean the manfishdog in the suit made from hotel curtains? The most useless and annoying character in a Star Trek ever, well, perhaps aside from Harry Quim.

The Jar-Jar Binks of the Trek universe.

TBH, the previous 'actual' Star Trek movie ("Nemesis") was both a crap action movie AND a crap Star Trek movie (although it did finally kill off the "only the even numbered ones were good" theme they had going, which wasn't a bad thing.).

Galaxy Quest was a much better Star Trek movie than Nemesis will ever be.

You mean the master cook, smuggler, comedy relief, fashion icon and all round good guy!

Though I did enjoy the reboot, I felt it was a fun action film, but not a good Star Trek film. The Trek references that were in there seemed lazy. Here's Kirk with a green alien woman, LOL! And as for the Kobayashi Maru scene...that was poor.

Spoiler:

I thought the idea of Kirk cheating on the test would be that it was done with sublety, that he would tweak the simulation enough to give him an edge without being too obvious, something like reducing the shield strength and weapon power of the enemy ships juuuust enough to scrape by. Instead, the power cuts out for a second and after that Kirk is cockily able to one-shot the Klingon ships in a few seconds. Yes, I know there is supposed to be suspension of disbelief, but in the scene the cheating was blatant. They could have handled that much less ham-fistedly (and not referred to Klingon ships as "warbirds" ).

The blatant racism of the Vulcans against Spock also seemed pretty clumsily done and not very Vulcan-like to me.

I don't think the films need to have a big moral message, but since day one the key part of Star Trek has been "to seek out new life and new civilisations," not just to zap the aliens. Some sort of nod to that, to the idea of humanity working to better themselves rather than just having the hardest spaceships, would be nice.

However, I am still looking forward to the new one. Hopefully now that the characters have been established there will be more emphasis on an original plot rather than having to run around showing how everyone met each other. And Benedict Cumberbatch looks like he might be a decent villain.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I mean the chump in the clown suit with the mohawk, the 'what the feth are we going to do with this giant turd, oh, right... Hey dufus, you're the 'morale officer'... snerk'

Type 'Neelix is' into the google engine and have a look at the results...

Here's the stress relief programme everyone else on voyager created to get over sharing airspace with the guy. Even the vulcan ends up offing him.

I will meet you to fight this out. Just be aware I carry this with me always and we will be battling to it's hallowed tune.

To be fair, Tuvok has anger problems. It is the focus of a couple of episodes.

in the 60s he was indeed a visionary, in the 90s he was a millstone about it's neck.

Similar thing is true of Star Wars and George Lucas. It's like artist continuing to revise the painting until it is ruined and you have to start all over.
I enjoyed this reboot a lot and look forward to the next installment in a couple of weeks.

It's no coincidence that the best star war (empire) is the one Lucas had the least involvement in. I knew somebody that once shared a taxi with Lucas in London years ago. Guess who didn't pay their half!!

Because of course, improving things you think you could have done better in YOUR OWN MOVIE is such a cardinal sin...

That might have held water if he had improved anything, but even then, it is a lousy way to make art.

Or to quote Lucas himself on film alteration: "Attention should be paid to the interest of those who are yet unborn, who should be able to see this generation as it saw itself, and the past generation as it saw itself."

I don't care that he changes them, what I do care is that he tries to pretend that they didn't exist in their original versions, and won't allow people to obtain them in the form they were originally shown in theaters.

Those were transfers from video, and in 4:3 aspect ratio. They aren't anywhere near close to the quality of the actual theatrical versions.

Well the one psoitive is you can annoy everyone by pointing out "thats new!" " hey thats new too!" "Whats with the stupid little new things!" Even TBone gets annoyed when I watch them.

It seems like Empire Strikes Back seems the least messed with.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
