Absolutely fantastic. I love how that front armor panel can move to reveal the pilot. That would be a great thing to do in games just to say, "I dare you to shoot at me".

@ FarseerAndyMan: Thank you very much, as for painting, This project was actually a commission,
so the paint scheme will be up to the client.

@ Dr H: Thanks, pleased you like it.

That is really, really cool. My plasticard skills are put to shame.

but to me most impressve is the proportions, really exquisite. I hope the client is happy with that.

H.R.Geiger just called, he says that you need to stop making exact duplicates of his mental images. That is just disturbingly (in a good way) scary. love the stiched together look and the chest part that comes down.

LOL... Having my work compared to H.R.Giger is indeed an honor , but I don't think I would survive being exposed to his mental images, He truly has one of those incomprehensible minds.

I only just noticed the "pilot" inside. It's only now I appreciate the scale.

maybe a bit more "nightmare before Christmas" than Giger, not X-rated enough for Giger

Something I have yet to try in 40K modeling is sculpture; your thread is an inspiration to me to take up that pursuit. I did some pretty fair sculpting years ago with disastrous results as I used 1/4 threaded pipes for the armature and a year or so later the clay shrank and cracked.

It appears you are using styrene tubes for your armature, correct? Do you have wire running through the tubes? Also what clay medium are you using?

Kudos,

Blackadder

Well your work is definitely an inspiration to me, so thank you.
As for the sculpting, belief me I've had my share of disasters in the past, but I think that's how we improve, buy making mistakes, and learning from them.

I always try to use wire for my armatures, mainly for support, but also to help define the basic shape of what your sculpting,
I also tend to sculpt all the parts separately, so I'll have an armature for the legs, arms body etc, and sculpt each one in turn.

Milliput is the clay I use for most things, It's a two part epoxy putty that when dry can be carved, engraved (if you have a steady hand) and sanded to a smooth finish.
It's versatility is why i use it so much, but It can take a little experimentation to find the best way to use and sculpt it.
Greenstuff of course I use for detail, but I also mix it with the milliput, which makes the milliput a bit easy to handle and increases the time you have to work with it, which is around 2-3 hours, before it starts to dry.

It took me a while to find those ball and socket joints, as the metal ones i found they use for animation armatures are really expensive,
but these are from a German based company that make plastic animation kits for kids, here's the link to there Ebay page.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OGO-Ogo-Bild-Bits-Series-1-CRANK-TKC-/330876604662?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4d09c850f6

I hope that helps, and if you've got any other questions please let me know.
I do have plans to make a sculpting tutorial thread at some point, not sure when though, hopefully before i start my next big project.

Thanks for the quick reply, and the references......

On reviewing the images on the first page the joint connections must clamp tightly so the figure can maintain the pose; correct or do you glue the joint in place?

@ The_Blackadder: Yes the ball and socket joints do clamp tightly together, although there is a limit to how much weight they can hold,
for instance the body on my model is almost too heavy for the joint on the pelvis to support, so it will have to be glued into position once the pose is finalized.

This might be a problem for your Titans, considering their size and how much they weigh,
you might be able to use multiple joints in combination with a piston system, but that's something you probably know more about than I do.

Not a problem the Titans work fine with the steel bolts axles but I want to do a Tyranid Titan and am looking for joints of the type you employ. I had thought of RC model aircraft control surface hinges but they are very flexible so they wont hold the pose. Your solution seems viable especially if I offset the weight with springs.

I may attempt to duplicate your model (But not Dark Eldar) for practice if you don't mind............BTW what is the height of your Eldar Titan?

@ The_Blackadder: I had plans to do a Tyranid Titan, it was going to be my own version of the Harridan, but that's on indefinite hold now as I have other big projects to start and finish,
So I look forward to seeing what you come up with, and if you want to duplicate any of my work please be my guest .

And the models height was just under 15 Inches.

This is so far off the flesh-hook that I don't know where to begin
I obviously wasn't wrong to approach you about this build. You can be sure that when I get it all painted up that the post will feature you prominently, a talent like yours really needs to be discovered by more people who can pay you for the privilege. My friends and colleagues will be green with envy and the Iron Maiden will stand tall as a centerpiece of both my army and my entire collection.
Thank you very much, my friend.
