i always show and tell, and explain whats in a transport. i also make a point of asking about transported units on the other side. i like to know for sure whats being transported, whats deepstriking and so on. but on the other side, i ALWAYS point out whats deepstriking, whats in transport, and what each unit is. has and any attached characters.

i dont want to win because someone thought one of my transports was full or empty when it wasent, etc. likewise, i HATE loosing to those kind of games.

Always be honest and open about your transports and their contents (and with the rest of your list in general)... makes for a much better gaming experience!

i have to admit it would be interesting to have a rule where you DONT reveal what unit is in what transport, just that "this unit is embarked in A transport" but i mainly say that so i can get a trukk with meganobz in without them getting focusfired out first rofl

eh but then you have people who would exploit said rule to make sure the unit they want reaches the target. IE here are my 3 trukks, 1 has nobz and 2 have boyz, by the time the final transport reaches your lines its the nobz no matter which of the transports you removed.

to the OP, having it written down which transports hold which units and then keeping it hidden (so your opponent has to guess which transport has the threat) Is ok if you both agree to play by those house rules. sadly the rule book says full disclosure,

I've had people play switch with units in rhino's. I'd once fought tigurius for two turns when my opponant claimed 'he should've been in the other rhino' - I still find it fun to house rule that you don't know whats in a transport. It makes for a fun game if you've both brought transports

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

^either this, or if it is okay with your opponent, just at the start of the game. it adds to the game only having a vague idea, in a real battlefield you wouldn't know what was in what

For me, I'd rather get into the 'roleplay' of not knowing. It's not as if you or your commander/army was present at the enemies deployment, same goes with reserves. I would like to know that you have them but not exactly what they are. Not knowing makes it more fun and a little tense/gets you thinking about if that is a decoy or worth destroying the transport to slow the advance(which is always worth it), for me anyways. This is based on home games that currently I'm only able to get of course.

When I start to go down to a new-ishly opened FLGS, I'll suggest the idea above. If they like it, then game on if not then game on.

I just think knowing what's in the transports takes away from the game and highly increases the chances of said unit falling short of its potential. You know, like your opponent thinking like this " I know what's in there, say good bye to that unit" and BLAM!, and the plot is gone. If its taken out by your opponent's random target choice, well that's just fine and adapt tactics. Of course your opponent knowing what's in there and it being destroyed, you still adapt tactics.

Seems a little more fair to me.

I would be ok with you marking what squad is in what transport with some sort of paper/token thingy as long as you mention what's where in deployment, the marking systems are clear to both players, and if the opponent asks what's in what transport you answer them. Here's how I look at it. If I forget that the squad of fire dragons are in the wave serpent near my land raider, that sucks to be me, I forgot. If I'm not told that fire dragons are in the wave serpent (even a mention of it at the beginning of the game is good, provided that it's not a mumbled thing or something like that) or when I ask what's in the transport and I'm not made aware, it might be irritating. Personally, I'll answer what units are in what transports, and try to make it clear at the beginning of the game. If I win, I don't want to win by a *gotcha*

EDIT: TL;DR version. Make sure your opponent understands what units are where at the beginning/when embarking/when asked, and explain your token system if asked

In seriousness, we you usually play that if anything is asked about translports it should be a truthful non sneaky response

The default rule is that you need to disclose what unit is in which transport. However the BRB acknowledges that playing with secrecy can be fun and that is the most important rule. The key is to discuss the matter with your opponent before the game starts and say you would like to play this way. Exercise normal interpersonal skills in reaching a decision explain why you like playing that way and why it's fun, address any concerns they might have, and don't be a jerk if an opponent doesn't want to play that way, If you do that you will likely get opponents who agree to try it and might enjoy it.

Ask your opponent before deployment... I'd be fine either way, but it gives a Mechanized List an unfair advantage over FootSloggers.
