You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
It seems you associate shovelware with any phone/tablet program. That is not the case. And while I wouldn't have faith in a "AAA" title made by Zygna, I would have faith in a "AAA" title made by Bottlecap who by what you seem to say make shovelware as well. Their games are fun and humorous.

Hmmmm I prefer the original. In a situation like that you really want to be wielding a Reaper in your off hand to really sell it! Reaper: for when you absolutely positively have kill every mutha fethin zombie in the room.
I love this game and still dig the original game out from time to time. I can wait for this one to be released.
Also for those that never knew there were these too;

Really? You are 100% impartial and never look at a company's previous track record before making a judgement about a proposed future product? Then you are an unusual human being, because human beings make snap decisions, they allow past experiences to bias their enjoyment of future experiences, and they are extremely easily manipulated(hence why marketing is a multi-billion dollar business and one of the biggest corporate funders of psychological and neuroscientific research). You, for example, would not make any sort of assumptions whatsoever about the quality of two products if I told you one was from Harrods and the other from Poundland? Then you're either a scientific marvel and should volunteer to be studied, or just a completely indiscriminate consumer.
As for what shovelware means, silent26, I think I have a fairly firm grasp on the concept given I worked in games retail(no, not as a till-monkey) for a fair while, and actually yes, I would say that most tablet and smartphone games are shovelware, as are most Facebook games, and many Wii and DS games, because they're typically produced quickly and without much thought purely because their devs think they can make a quick buck by cramming out "me-too" games on a popular platform. Plenty of those tablet/phone, Wii, and DS games are perfectly enjoyable ways to waste some time, not every shovelware title is a buggy, unplayable mess, but that doesn't mean they're not shovelware, any more than the BF3 single player campaign being a fairly fun way to waste a few hours changes the fact that it's a generic and uninspired brown-grey modern military FPS.

All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal |

You, for example, would not make any sort of assumptions whatsoever about the quality of two products if I told you one was from Harrods and the other from Poundland? Then you're either a scientific marvel and should volunteer to be studied, or just a completely indiscriminate consumer. Aaahh, but there's a lot to discuss here. If I'm a big fan of the company, I'm expecting something I enjoy. Let's say Bioware. I enjoyed every single RPG Bioware developed up until Dragon Age 2, if Bioware said they were developing "Blah" I will get excited and have high hopes for the game. That's where I am biased. When "random company X" that I'm not familiar with (but that's only me, it can be well-known for bad or good reasons) announces it's developing a game about something I enjoy I usually go "Cool, hope it's something good!". When it's a company I know that didn't exactly develop good stuff until now or it's completely out of their "Normal" area (Like the one developing the new 40k MMO as far as I know) I cross my fingers and go "C'moooon, good game!" and await for the final product and reserve my judgement until I can play. Same thing with reviews. I know people who look at game's scores as if it was the most important thing when deciding to play a game and are biased by what they find. I just don't trust scores, I need to judge the game by myself. So, I'm gonna vote indiscriminate consumer

As soon as they start releasing for Android (Codex and rules), there's a rush of games licensed out.
I'm all for it, if done right.
Also, if it brings in money that GW isn't making on model sales, they might just think to lower prices on models. Watching GW slowly price itself out of the market is painful. Seeing them find alternative sources of revenue, there's more chance 40k and others will live on.

Honestly, I don't think this will have any bearing on the price of their plastics. There are very few companies (I can't actually think of any) that DROP prices after they've raised them. Could it lead to them being more stagnant? Perhaps. But I wouldnt hold your breath regarding any dropping prices

Well you seem to be changing your definition of shovelware every time. So now you are labeling this a "me-too" game even though we haven't seen the game play and even though they are supposedly basing it off the game which from what I can tell was fairly original. And from what you define as being shovelware, anything that isn't a major AAA effort seems to get labeled as such by you. Working at a video game store doesn't mean anything. Been in plenty of stores where the employees all had their own bias and dismissed games/companies/game type that didn't fit their ideal of the perfect video game. And it is clear you have some strong biases.
@Tannhauser42, problem with your argument, THQ wasn't a homogenous entity. Dawn of War was made by Relic, Kill Team by Juice Games, and Dark Millennium was by Vigil. Different development studios under the THQ umbrella. Relic's products were great, Juice's was fun and simple, but buggy (locked up my Xbox a couple times), and Vigil's helped destroy THQ. You risk a shoddy game bringing down the entire brand even when the license is with one company.
GW's current policy is probably a reaction to the fall of THQ where they saw their IP spread by THQ among other divisions that likely didn't have the same enthusiasm for GW products that Relic did. The companies getting the licenses now are probably based on their familiarity of the GW IP. Would you rather have a famous studio that has no clue what GW is making the games or a unknown that is familiar and enthusiastic with the IP? One of the reasons a lot of people liked the Dawn of War series was because Relic got the feel of 40k. Would it been as good if the voice acting and action had been more generic SF?

IIRC, this game was available on the net as one of those chose your own adventure type things, does anyone remember if that link is still out there or was that removed back in the day when GW changed sites?
Nothing wrong with the game going to I pads/ Phones as apps. Would like them free, but hey, to each his own. Loved this one back in the day.

Bronze Award-winning Games Workshop boardgame adaptation Chainsaw Warrior has had its price cut down to just £1.49 / $1.99 on iPad and iPhone.
It's the cheapest the game has been since it was released in September last year, so if you fancy some incredibly difficult, pretty violent, dice-rolling carnage, now's the perfect time to pick it up.
At review we said "Chainsaw Warrior boasts character and replayability in spades, but its lengthy, rock-hard play sessions aren't the best fit for portable play."
So if you've got a good chunk of time you want to kill, head on over to the App Store right now and grab Chainsaw Warrior before it reverts to its normal price of £3.99 / $4.99.

http://aurochdigital.com/2014/07/29/copies-of-classic-1987-board-game-chainsaw-warrior-up-for-grabs-for-best-playthough/
The developers of Games Workshop’s classic board game ‘Chainsaw Warrior‘ for Steam, iOS and Android announced that they have a copy of the rare original game plus the expansion cards from White Dwarf issue 88 up for grabs. The game was originally released in its physical form back in 1987 and is a classic piece of gaming history – a rare solo board game which pitted the player against the clock.
The digital version was released last year creating excitement and nostalgia with fans who fondly remembered playing it as well as converting new fans to the title. In ‘Chainsaw Warrior’ the player takes on the role of a cybernetic soldier as he attempts to save New York from dire peril – and in only 60 minutes. The original was noted for its challenging solo gameplay – an aspect that has been preserved in the digital version.
To win a copy of the game, players need to record a play session and submit a video link to the developers via gtn at aurochdigital dot com – the best submitted run-through of the game (on any platform) will win the prize. The developers will be marking on score, style and aggression as Auroch Digital’s Tomas Rawlings explains, “Chainsaw Warrior is a battle against the odds; not only is time against you but also hordes of zombies, mutants and others creatures – plus there are traps, radiation and poison to content with. We’d love to see your choice play-throughs showing how you defeat Darkness and if it’s the best of the best, we’ll be sending you a copy of the original game, a real collectors’ item!” Entries need to be submitted by 17th August to be considered.
To celebrate the competition, Chainsaw Warrior is on sale for a short period (Steam, Apple App Store, Google Play). To keep in the loop with the project you can like Auroch Digital on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. The game’s information page can be found at chainsawwarrior.net and there is a new Reddit forum for the game at: reddit.com/r/chainsawwarrior/
