The attack wing ships are not bad, they are they same sculps as heroclix but the paint job is more detailed. Not as detailed as x wing but it is a fair trade. Attack wing ships are cheaper $$. They all retail from 10-14 $ a ship x wing is 12-15 for fighters and 19-39 for the bigger. So I think it works out.

I'm in the same boat, I was interested in the ships just to sit on my shelf but after looking at them yesterday in a FLGS no thanks, the quality of the ships is pretty poor for the price you pay for them

More than the ship you are paying for all of the tokens and cards that come with it. $10 a piece for the model three option for captain plus upgrades and tokens is a steal compared to what most there games cost for a unit.

I bought both attack wing and x-wing at GenCon, attack wing was fifteen for a blister expansion, and the b-wing was fifteen...

I felt my money was better spent on x-wing and I was using Manchu's money for attack wing

I've got no interest in playing the game so the tokens and cards are no use to me, so it would be 10-15 for a ship which at the quality is no good

I think it may be better and more universal to use the MSRPs instead of variant ebay/secondary market prices. X-Wing small ship boosters are all $15 and the medium ships are $30 and starter IIRC is $40. I'll let you post the attack wing prices as I'm not familiar with their MSRPs.

Warboss, as Manchu and I were going back and forth on the amount of cash he would need to PayPal me for the Reliant and the core set, the prices are exactly the same.

B-wing expansion from ffg: 14.95 (15)
X-Wing core set: 39.95 (40)

Reliant ship from WizKids: 15
Attack Wing Core Set from WizKids: 40

No one is claiming you can't get them cheaper but simply that its a bad basis to start from when trying to compare products from different companies.

And that's twenty percent off of retail, which is what we're comparing. I can purchase the expansions for x-wing for 11.99 from the WarStore, so where are we comparing a cheaper product to a more expensive one? This is just as silly as people being okay with GW prices because they aren't paying retail. Both X-Wing and Attack Wing are selling for the same price, so we have a heroclix model for the same price as something that is better painted and has more details. People will play Attack Wing of they like the universe and the rules, but it is very easy to point out the quality differences between the models themselves. If you'd like I can do a video comparing the reliant and the b-wing, considering both models were for sale at GenCon.

I agree people will play which ever they are a bigger fan of, but compared to other games out there $10-14 for a unit ready to play out of the box is a good deal. Yes the detail on the x wing ships is better but the trek ships ddon't look bad.

I have not yet seen the Attack Wing ships in person (Alf will be sending me some soon though! ) But I have seen the Star Trek clix in person and I was actually pretty impressed. Now, that was because my expectations were based on HeroClix rather than X-Wing. If I went to Attack Wing expecting X-Wing models, yeah I can understand why people would be really put off.

You're still missing the fact that Attack Wing is the exact same price as X-Wing. We're not talking about a 10 dollar HeroClix model vs a 15 dollar FFG model, we're talking about a 15 dollar model vs a 15 dollar model. Yes that price is solid for a game I would have bought the other two Wave 4 ships if PayPal wasn't being stupid (and WizKids would take a credit card), but here is just a quick shot for ya (one is in the packaging because it's Manchu's model and he deserves the right to smell the freshly opened ship.

Here we have the U.S.S Reliant

It's not a bad ship, really what I would expect from WizKids and HeroClix models. The painting covers the basic colors of the ship and a few detail pieces. Not much depth to it, but again it's a HeroClix model.

Here we have the B-wing.

It's a solid paint job, it had squad markings and it looks as though it has enough details on the ship to allow for things like the piping, the black undercoat to give it depth and the solid, all around decent paintjob.

Both of those models were 15 dollars, more effort looks like it went into the B-wing, where as many are pointing out, the Attack Wing models are just the old Star Trek HeroClix models. If I wanted something to sit on my shelf (as Ironicsilence indicated he wanted), I would not want to pay 15 dollars for these pieces. But that's subjective. I hope the game is fun, I hope that people enjoy it, but most of all, I hope that WizKids puts in the effort to compete with FFG's model quality.

It's kind of jarring to not see a registry number on the Reliant -- but then again, it's also supposed to be able to represent a generic Miranda-class starship.

The bottom line is, Clix models are not very good. I mean, here's a comparison between the Clix Reliant and the MicroMachine version:

If you just want to sit the Reliant on your shelf, do yourself a favor and buy the Clix single for six bucks -- or even the MicroMachine version. Although, for display purposes:

-Alf thanks for the close up shots.

To me it looks good. The b wing looks awsome, but even though I love star wars I have no interest in playing x wing. I have been looking for a good but simple to understand star trek game for a while, so I am storked for attack wing. However I can see how the lower quality paint job could turn people off. For me it is more about the universe I want to play and easy to master rules that we can play several games in an afternoon. Between work kids and life I don't get a lot of hobby time. Though this will probably kill my painting schedule for warhammer.

On an alternative not attack wing will be a bit of a savings for people who just want the ship as more come out. October is supposed to see the release of the jem'hadar fighter and the Defiant both of which run for $11-16 plush shipping on ebay for the heroclix so retail is not all that bad for some ships. I can't wait for voyager it is rather pricey for the heroclix IIRC.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I'm not sure why people would pay that much more for just the ships when the miniatures are available in two other games for less.

As Baldrick cunningly pointed out, some of the Clix ships are selling as singles for more than the MSRP of the Attack Wing expansion pack. The Valdore, for example, goes on eBay for about $30.00. So if, for whatever reason, you really wanted the Valdore model, the Attack Wing expansion is a better deal.

I would say the only thing I am disappointed about is that the klingon bird of prey is not in the initial release. I would rather have that than a D-7 to be honest. As I can see it the round 2 release in october release for klingons is Kronos one which is a different class but looks very similar to the D7.

Hey guys check this article out it is by one of the guys who designed the game and he gives some in depth talk about new things in the game.

http://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/21451/designer-diary-star-trek-attack-wing-or-how-to-ove

He also says that you can play a lot of missions and that they have designed 27 ships so far that will take them through march of 2014. So it sounds like there is loads to come. For those of you not up on math that is 16 more ships between September and March so for gamers there is a lot to be excited about here.

I just wish they'd at least redo the larger ships as larger sculpts on the Millennium Falcon/Slave 1 sized base.

Now that FFG is doing the corvette and transport it'd be cool to see a Borg cube.

Me, too. That is -- I'll buy more!

Personally, I also hope to see the 23rd-centry Romulan Bird-of-Prey soon. Gotta be able to recreate Balance of Terror!

I know the idea is Dominion War, and everyone was throwing obsolete designs into the fray... but I wish they'd chosen some different Federation ships. The Galaxy is fine. The Miranda is one of those workhorse ships where the captain is always six days from retirement before going out on some suicide patrol mission, and did feature a lot on DS9. But I would like to have had a Defiant or an Akira, maybe an Ambassador as the older style ship, or more Jem'Hadar.

I'm not saying I'm not interested, I love me some Star Trek. I play the Mongoose ACTA game for the old school goodness. But I already have all the Star Trek heroclix models, so I'm not sure how much of this game I really need.

Also not thrilled on tournament/event only ships.

That said, I've found it pretty easy to check what's in the box before buying.

The defiant and the jem'hadar fighter are in wave 2 that comes out in October. which i think is good so people have a month or so to get the rules down before they appear. They will also release the romulan Praetus &Klinon Kronos One at that time. Wich IIRC is the 23 century bird of prey so that should make MANCHU very happy.

The Memeory Alpha link shows it as a 22nd-century Bird-of-Prey, which is a cool ship and all but what kind of sense does that make?

Wow those models look pretty terrible... they could have at least pushed the envelope a bit with paint application even if they weren't willing to re-sculpt.

Yeah, it's called a cash grab -- which is actually kind of sad because it seems like a lot of good thought went into porting the FlightPath rules.

All the better for Star Wars capitol ships like the ISD? You can buy just the starter for the new templates/rules/counters and just convert stuff over. I don't know if topps/wizkids does the free rulebook download thing though.
