I never needed fluff to get into the game. All fluff is just about the same thing, you have several parties who all fight each other more or less, some for control and other for survival. Each battle is always fought intensely against bitter enemies to the last man blah blah blah.

Primarily I appreciate different design styles for each army and different type of abilities.

So it could be fun to explore some fluff also, but not because the game isn't fun enough in itself.

I guess I have strayed away from just gaming and got more into the setting and fluff. I can see where you are coming from, but for me I’m lucky to play once a week if that. So instead of my minis just setting, I like to know more about them and create that connection. This might sound a little goofy but it’s fun to compare the mini to the fluff. If a company can transit fluff to game play and still keep the mini balanced then they are doing a great job and care about the players and the game.

I've found the Monsternomicon to be a great read. To teach me a setting, show me its monsters. First introductions of pistol wraiths, Deathjack, Gorgandurs, warpwolves?

Yeah, it's entertaining (and useful if you do any RPG work).

Also, the new novella, Extraordinary Zoology, is rather well written. That and who doesn't love Victor Pendrake?

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Then you should love Warmachine fluff, as it's often very easy to pick out the exact spells a Warcaster is using from their figure in the stories.

This X100.
Larry Correia's writing Warmachine novels now. If you want to fall in love with the Warmachine world, read his stuff. Now.
He's the guy that wrote Monster Hunter International and the Grimnoir series. You'll want to read them. If there's one thing Larry does, its to suck you into the world and have a lot of fun while doing it. He alsoloves painting minis.

Larry is a New York Times best selling author for a reason...because he's freaking awesome. The books he writes are addictive. Larry is the master at world building, which is what he had to do for both Monster Hunter and Grimnoir and he's doing it for Warmachine. I don't even play Warmachine and i'm going to buy this book, just because I know it's going to rock.

There's also nothing overly bright and fun about sending one of the well known main Cygnar characters on a mission to kill a baby. This setting has plenty of darkness if you look into it.

Lets hope so, I have bought The Devil's Pay, Moving Targets and The Way of Caine and I enjoyed them, but the latest book I bought from PP was "Dark Convergence" and I really disliked that one! Talk about turning a battle report into a novel!

Seems like I'll have to get "Into the Storm" the wash away the bad taste that "Dark Convergence" left in my mouth...

That is a pretty heavy comparison if you put in contenders like Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn Trilogy, or the early Gaunt's Ghosts books, or Michael A. Stackpole's Blood of Kerensky Trilogy for Battletech or even Tim Dedopulos Clan Brujah Trilogy for V:TM...

I think we are all confusing several different books here:

- "In Thunder Forged" is the paperback book from the aborted Fall of Lael trilogy and is written by Ari Marmell;
- "Into the Storm" is the newly released ebook by Larry Correia;

So, which one are you guys talking about?

At first I didn't know the fluff and just played the game, the more I play though. I find myself wanting to know more about the models and their history.

The game is what drew me in, but it is the history that is so readily available in all of the books that has kept me playing, and will keep me playing for a long time.

I don't think it's sending them after a baby, he's kind of all grown up and a warcaster in training if it's the same one I'm thinking of.

Good point.

Well he was hunting him from early on in his career wasn't he, when he started working for Rebald? So maybe baby was a bit of an exaggeration, I'd say child initially, and nowadays he's a young man learning to be a warcaster under the filthy traitor. Because that worked out so well for that traitor last time he trained someone up as a warcaster, maybe his other side will get crushed this time?

Into the Storm is okay... It isn't bad, but to say it's the best universe novel In any universe... Seems a but much to me.

I read Into the Storm and it was kinda meh-ish. It's not bad, it's just flat. Most of the characters were pretty one-dimensional in the sense that you knew what archetype they were supposed to be and if you were genre-savvy enough, you could probably guess their entire plot-line through the book.

Fave char in the book though is the warjack. Going to make a conversion of it

Vinter's kid isn't a Warcaster - he's training to be a warrior, but he'll never be a Warcaster.

On the novels, I keep hearing that the one about the Butcher is really good. Mainly since it actually is kind of light on the "battle report" stuff and more a neat character-driven thingy. Been meaning to give it a read through.

And stuff.
