I thought about buying one of the LE editions, then I remembered something very important:

I don't play the game anymore. I'm just repainting my old minis. I can't spend that kind of money on something I'll only use as an art book.

i'm going for the regular Codex...
i'm not into LE books the same way i am into LE minis...
at least i get to paint the minis, and sell them on to a good home...

the covers do look good, though...

I had planned on getting the ultramarine one, but the normal codex has a better ultramarine picture on it anyways, so i'm not going to spend twice the money for gold trim and a bookmark. It's cheaper to get books from forgeworld now lol.

I was going to go for the Imperial Fist codex, but I was honestly too embarassed. I would be too ashamed to pull that out before a game, as if admitting I was a chump who fell for GW's marketing hype

Sometimes it's fun to be the bad guy for a change. That's why I play Grey Knights.

Nope, because the White Scars cover looks like crap. A white space marine on a white background?! I honestly hadn't realised the Alpha Legion supplement was going to be $140.00...

I really want the White Scars one but i can't even justify £35 for the regular codex let alone £70 for a limited edition.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Well i has in the process of paying for my LTE Ultramarines codex when the site died , i pre order a regular codex from Total Wargamer for £28 with delivery , i will probably spend the £42 i saved in Sternguards and Tactical Squads. Its better that way.
Ok i am not kidding any one ,even if the price is a robbery i would have gladly buy one for the ultramarines and other for the successor chapters but the dammed sit is down!

Id love to have an Iron Hands LE cover, but with winter approaching im getting laid off soon, meaning id rather save my money for either more plastic or something else.

Damn you sense of responsibility!

But seriously though, like a month ago I would've bought one for positive.

I agree with you here, the White Scars cover is unfortunately the worst of the lot. I might have been tempted if it had been better, as it is I'll get myself more models instead.

I really, really wanted the Salamander's one, but managed to restrain myself.

The price of the regular codex is putting me off all on its own! Is the cover picture the primary difference, or is it made out of endangered rain forest wood too? Maybe the cover is a tad nicer, it said soft touch, anyway, and there's that bookmark ribbon too.

I guess if I had the cash/love laying around, I could be interested, and don't begrudge anyone else who wants such a pretty thing on their shelf. I'm not sure I could spend that dollarage on a book like that and still want to use it, let alone bring it into a gamestore where some kid may try to filch it.

That all probably sounded more negative than intentional, they do look neat and all.

If I were to get a SM army I probably wouldn't bother with a collectors codex. My two 6th codices are CSM (regular) and Tau (CE).

I'm glad I went with the CE tau as they have always been my main army since their release. A CE is really only justifiable if the army is special to you. However, one nice thing about the regular codex is I don't feel obligated to be super careful with it

Edit: It would be a very nice touch if the limited edition codex had a few extra pages of cool art in it to help justify the price.

Gossipmeng hit my main issue on the head. As if the issue were a nail, and his point were a hammer. And that he used the hammer of his point to hit the nail of my main issue on the head, that is... the proper place to hit a nail.

Ahem, I get video game CE/LE/preorder specials when they bring enough meat and or bones to the table to justify the expense. These things often come with art books, CDs, previous iterations of the game, in game content or DLCs, and sometimes they only hike the price by about 20 bucks, usually don't bring a game from 60 to more than 100. Since these books are the same cost, I figure its a fair comparison. But all you get is a nicer cover, a ribbon, and a pretty faction-specific cover art. Where is the extra art/fluff/content?

The more I think about it, the more likely I am to *eventually* cave and pick up the newest C:SM...but I can't justify the cost vs extras

I will be just getting the normal codex after a time. Since I have never felt this chapter is the best of the all, I do not see a reason to get a LE cover version of the SM:Codex. Now if we could have
our own personal Chapters done like that, then we are in business! I would totally order a Personalized Chapter cover.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I think a lot of the complaints about the cost of the LE's would be eliminated if GW would include a voucher for a free download of one of the digital editions of the codex, buyer's choice of format. Hell, even if they exclude the Apple ones(since they'd still have to pay Apple their cut regardless) and only give you the choice between epub and mobi.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

This is the way all of them should be distributed, but had a LE one included an electronic version too, I would have jumped on it right away.

Well on the GW website it looks like there are only copies still available for Raven Guard, Iron Hands and White Scars, the rest have sold out. I'd of ordered one for £50 but I'm not paying double for a fancy sleeve on principle alone. I'd pay pretty much anything for a LE model that I like but for an item that will be completely obsolete at some point and worth £10 at best to re-sell I'll pass.

Each to their own I guess. I'm sure all of you that have ordered one will be walking a few inches taller the day it lands on your doorstep! Enjoy.

I made that bed a long time ago, and lay in it nightly (or is it lie, or lain, hate that/those words )!

I run a DIY and the closest you can get to it in pre-existing chapters is the relictors, so, I'd have to make my own cover if I wanted a matching book cover :p

Honestly, I'm only interested in the new book if you can build a list that effectively uses multiple (read: more than 1, not necessarily six) squads of scouts with dedicated LSSs, failing that, I'll just keep them dark angel-y

I really wanted the Successors book, but the page kept timing out on me, so I gave up. Of all the LE codices, that was the only one I was willing to buy, so very sad.

I decided to buy the WS LE because they are my main army, I've been a fan of theirs since WD published the starter list for Paul Sawyer back in 3rd ed. I've played them off and on for years. But over the last couple of years I've been going through chapter ADD and I want that to stop, so I'm kind of over committing to the WS. Since they are one of the two chapters I always come back to eventually anyway I figure it is a safe move.
