As for the incredibly high cost of the single plastic minis, I'm sure that the thinking from their end is that the tooling for one mini is expensive, they aren't going to sell near as many Librarians as they do boxes of tactical marines so the price needs to reflect the fact that it needs to be able to make back its tooling costs in a reasonable period of time.
Ok. But now compare the Librarian and Captain kits with the existing Commander kit, and tell me that they are worth 8 dollars more. If anything they should be priced less than the Commander (or even the Chaos Terminator Lord) kits, as they contain substantially fewer detailed pieces, and therefore less tooling, and those kits follow the same idea of fewer sales driving higher cost.
Or that they should be "worth" 1/3 more than the other single sprue plastic characters like the Tau and Chaos ones that they are exactly comparable to. GW just knows that above anything else, people will pay any price, especially for Space Marines.

TBH, i realy enjoyed working with finecast once i got through the "why the feth doesnt my paint stick to this'' phase, and i think that gw can go bite my shiny metal ass if they think im going to pay 30 bucks for a space marine captain made of plastic with no upgrade options. i can make a nicer one with a box of PAGK's and still have 4 legs and a sheetload of stuff left over. I will be surprised if i see anyone buy the new captain. I also kinda think the new finecast captains are way better than the plastic one.

They claim pewter was far too expensive to produce things in, but then they price the new plastic models at approx. twice what they would be at in metal. I'm pretty sure they think we are all drooling idiots, willing to pay any price they put out there.
I mean c'mon. The new plastic Space marine commander is $30US for the equivalent of the commander from the Assault on Black Reach set. Good....God....
Well there are enough Drooling idiots that will purchase everything GW makes no matter the price
See LE dexes for further evidence.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

The only problem with them getting rid of finecast, is that a lot more models are going to be discontinued. You know they are not going to remake all those fantastic SM Chaplain sculpts into plastic versions.
So getting rid of finecast is great, having only ONE chaplain model (which sucks compared to the older ones, looks like he got toilet papered by naughty school children), ONE librarian and TWO captain models is going to suck.

I just spent $75 on hive guard. They are supposed to release a plastic kit with the new tyranid dex. If its a 3 model kit i would expect to pay less than that.

Fingers crossed that it's phased out for the Tyranid release. I hated FC for my brittle and gangly bugs. :(
