Saw it. I liked it. Brought some things to closure. Didn't like the that scar face took over as Lord Commander but I'm going to soothe myself that ole Boy that tried to be Lord Commander the first time offed scar face arse when he got back. I've a feeling there be a Riddick 4. A certain female was not seen at the end

I'm pretty sure Carl Urban's cameo is meant to set him up for the next movie. The necromonger storyline probably isn't finished...if this movie earns enough to greenlight a sequel.

Me too. I've probably seen it a few times (allot for me) and I laugh at it everytime.
I wasn't too fussed by Pitch Black and actually preferred CoR so YMMV. I'll take a look at this, possibly in the cinema but that'll be mostly to bunk off work and satisfy my popcorn addiction.

I liked Chronicles, had some neat ideas. I always assumed that Riddick was like a sardaukar, still a human but grown up on a badass planet, looking forward to see it.
Saw Riddick over the weekend. Enjoyed it a ton. I believe Vin Diesel said he wanted to make a trilogy of films starting with Riddick, and the beginning and ending of Riddick definitely set it up.
Good deal. Pitch Black was decently innovative and kewl, and I may be the only one that liked Chronicles. It effectively tried to make a big budget film with a smaller budget.
How many movies have tried to show planetary invasions of humans...by humans?

Wasn't a huge fan. Great special effects, cool fight scenes. I haven't seen either of the prequels pretty much since Chronicles of Riddick came out, so like... ten years? So I don't remember them that well, but I recall liking them. Maybe I should go dig 'em up.
I think Riddick is the least likable protagonist in recent memory, and his only weakness seems to be that he's just too badass for his own good.

Spoiler:
I still don't know why Johns and Dahl went back to rescue Riddick in the end. It's his fault they're stuck on the planet, and seriously, if I saw a dude get stabbed in the chest with a stinger that large while being chased by a hundred posion frog-scorpions, I'd figure he's fething dead and there's no point. I'm also kind of annoyed that there was the whole "Dahl is a lesbian, but it's OK, because everyone knows that a lesbian is just a woman who hasn't met a real man yet and good ol' Riddick will set her straight!" Maybe I'm being overly critical of the whole thing (I mean the entire movie, not just Dahl), but the homophobic bent in the movie rubbed me the wrong way.

Also, the best character by far was the dog.
I saw it on opening day and enjoyed it. I pretty much agree with your thoughts about the Necromongers....Riddick is not one to let such a betrayal stand without taking revenge on those who perpetrated the act.

However, Diesel doesn’t seem too concerned about the future of Riddick’s monster-slaying career, and even called Karl Urban back to shoot additional scenes specifically to advance the mythology and lay the groundwork for the fourth movie in the series. Speaking in an interview with SFX, Diesel outlined the intentions for the next two movies in the Riddick franchise, and where the begoggled anti-hero will be going next:
“You’ve got to go to the Underverse. It’s expected, it’s something I firmly believe. You’ll have to go through the Underverse to get to Furya. So, those are the two further stories that are mapped out. The Underverse is a much more costly venture. We went this direction, trying to do an R rated movie, which is cool and even more interesting because it’s so unexpected. But yes, you will be at the Underverse and you will be at Furya sooner or later.”
The dog. Those scenes were very solid I thought, though I got a new puppy a few months ago so I'm biased.
Lots of weird alien creatures.
Riddick Riddicking.
Action was good without being stupid and over the top
The bad:
Some of the dialogue was pretty poor, especially Dahl - although that might just be because she had a bit more screen time than most of the other characters. They all had some pretty bad ones.
I don't understand why they went back for Riddick either.
The Ugly:
I thought the nudity from Katee whathername was so gratuitous as to actually be sort of jarring, just as Alice Eve's underwear scene was in Star Trek. I've got no problem with nudity - quite the opposite, big fan of boobs, A++ - but there needs to be, you know, some reason they are on the screen, some context. The Necromonger nudity was OK because it made sense; it showed how preoccupied he was with his thoughts. The other scene was just sideboob so you could see a sideboob; and while I don't expect a Vin Diesel movie to get an oscar, we can at least pretend we're trying, right?
Also, did Riddick "cure" her of being gay? WTF?
The Indifferent: It didn't seem like the guy who led the first band of mercs would... be capable of doing so. He just doesn't seem to be the type to inspire either fear or loyalty.
I would like to have seen just a little more of the Necromongers. Not much, just a few more minutes to ease us out of Chronicles. It didn't make sense that Scarface attempted to kill Riddick instead of Karl Urban, but yeah, I get that they're just going to fill that in later.
Also, what happened to his leg, that didn't seem like a fixable thing; but maybe that's some Furyan thing. I don't know.

Regarding the first two movies, I think part of what I found jarring is how PB is a very narrowly focused sci-fi/monster flick, but then the scope of the second pulls so far out and suddenly there's a significant supernatural bent to the universe, with 'abhumans' or what have you, an 'underverse', etc, etc. Having cybernetic eyes that let you see in the dark is one thing. Having divergent human evolution and different planes of existence or whatever is kind of something else. Not bad, just a massive shift in tone/scope/setting, at least to me.
As for Riddick itself;
Spoiler:
The dog was great.
And I particularly loved how self-aware the film was at times. The moment where two of the mooks are chatting, one guy is all "Man, don't we have too many people? Like, 11 of us?" and the other looks at him like he's crazy. "Do you know who we're dealing with??"
But yeah, if there was one thing I strongly disliked was the bit with Sackhoff. Now, we never actually see them hook up, and it's possible she's just not a solid 6 on the Kinsey Scale, but that kind of statement/opinion has some pretty dark/dangerous undercurrents, which would be particularly distasteful in the face of recent pushes for equality. Basically, it was off colour at best and outright offensive if one looks at it too closely, but aside from a bit of mounting him for the rescue, at least they didn't play if any further.

I am quite fond of the first movie. They did a good job of using three basic sets.
About the ending of this one, I have a theory.
Spoiler:
If you think about it, Johns would have known most of what happened in PB. If he really wanted to know what happened to his son during the previous years he would have had access to official reports on the incident. He may have already interviewed in person the two survivors, as one got incarcerated and the other was a religious leader. Johns fist questions about who survived and how many survived the crash were test questions to gauge riddicks honesty. They went back because he went back, and or.... If he had died, they still could have claimed the bounty.
