I used to have a lot of fun with the GTA series. In terms of gameplay, San Andreas was my favourite, although I also have very fond memories of Vice City due to the classy theme with its 80s cars and music. I pretty much stopped caring for the series when IV came out and was disappointed both with the horrible, horrible controls of the PC port as well as various changes made to the gameplay.

From what I've seen so far, the new game has potential to be a lot better and worth my monies again - depending on how the PC port eventually turns out, of course. The visuals look fun (and remind me of good ole' GTA:SA), there seem to be some new ideas around, and the game finally comes with an integrated multiplayer mode. Given how much I like to play co-op with friends, the last alone is an argument for keeping an eye on this game. It's a bit meh how out of all the three story characters not a single one is female, but I guess that's just the industry standard these days, and at the very least the characters look interesting/unique and do not conform to the usual "white male action hero" game cliché but instead feel like something out of a proper movie (somehow I keep thinking "Payback"). The preview videos definitively hinted at some good humour there.

Let's see what the PC reviews ultimately say, I guess.

I'm not that interested in it myself. From the little i've seen in commercials and the Achievement Hunter's lets play, I don't like the characters that much. They go a little too much against my Moral ideals, And I would rather not play those kinds of Characters for the entire game.

Right... i'm assuming you've never played GTA before then? This is pretty run of the mill.

Tiger9Gamer, I will agree that at certain points in the GTA games I find myself wincing. I do believe Rockstar tries to portray reality as best as they can. But I find myself still wishingsome things were cleaned up just a little bit. You can get certain messages across without being totally offensive for the sake of being offensive.

No, to be honost. I never played GTA for the reason I stated, and i don't feel like i'm missing out. I play saints row still, but that doesn't feel so... Weird to me for some reason. Maybe because I made my character into "Captain Collateral, Part time Defender of innocents" with that brightly colored super hero suit i gave him...

Not looking to start a flame war, but just stating my opinion.

Yea, what sickSix says, it's offensive for the sake of it, and I'm pretty offended by it on a moral level.

The newer titles of Saint's Row (III and IV) are intentionally over the top and thus difficult to take seriously. Most gamers probably perceive them like a sort of Sunday morning cartoon. In contrast, GTA always tried to tell a more grim and realistic story, thus invariably also coming across somewhat less innocent even though the basic message is the same.

I'm fairly sure that Tiger9 would feel similar about the earlier Saint's Rows (I and II) as those were not yet as "exaggerated". I think we humans just have a tendency to dismiss things as harlmess if they are simply conveyed in a more cheer- and colourful manner.

The first Saints Row was pretty straight forward, but the second game, where the Boss took control of the gang and really called the shots, now that was a straight up look at how an immoral sociopath does things. Looking at you, Brotherhood arc, holy crap, you do not feth with the Boss!

Is it more like SA or IV? I played the heck out of GTAIII, San Andreas, Vice City but could never get into IV.

I haven't played GTA since San Andreas, but I just want to say one thing in Rock Star's defense -

They NAILED, NAILED, NAILED early 90's Los Angeles. I felt like I had stepped into a time machine. To this day I am absolutely stunned how a bunch of Scotsmen could have nailed my city so well.

They're good at atmosphere, setting, story, but I agree the gameplay tends to be lacking.

Jimmy, GTA 5 Protagonist Michael's Son, Has Sleeve tattoos and a 'Gangster' T-shirt and is a stereotypical Douchebag loser who plays videogames. Rockstar are 5 steps ahead of you.

After being kinda/sorta let down by my other favorite much hyped and revered franchise in Total War: Rome 2, I was kind of expecting GTA V to be let down.

So far I've enjoyed it immensely. I like how they made avoiding cops seemingly harder (I may be out of practice). The story is interesting, the characters are funny and the new features are fun to play with. Needs more stealth missions though.

I am looking forward to it and will likely get it eventually.

Is the control system better than 4? I hated that one because the aiming system would often have you pointing the gun at the completely wrong target that you weren't even looking at and then getting killed.

That sucked. If they have improved that I will definately give 5 a shot.

Well you will be more than happy with this game.

That sounds good - can you fly planes and helicopters

Yes you can! You are introduced to flying through the story. But it is a bit shaky since they have introduced skills into the game. You need to drive and fly to improve your control over vehicles.

Not sure thats a good thing.............Have they got rid of the rubbish GTA 4 System?

Not sure what you mean. The cops have fast aggressive cars, and a cone of visibility. Once they lose sight of you your stars flash and you see the cop cars and their cone on your radar. As long as you avoid them then you will eventually lose your wanted level. I will say that helicopters are a bit easier to shoot down or I jusf got lucky. I only made it to 4 stars so far so can't comment on the National Guard response.

Can you end up fighting the National Guard and the Air Force?

See above.

Are the radio stations fun? I miss Yuppie and the Alien - fighting crime with 1/4 million dollar sports car and a UFO
Is there a classical music station - just fits when doing Mafia missions

Lazlo is back! I guess that isn't really a surprise but makes me happy. There is definitely humor. One of the news reports had me bust out laughing. My dog looked at me funny.

Oh and I have failed to mention how easy it is to die. You seem very fragile so far in the early game. And there are degrees of body armor. The lowest grade is $500, concealable and barely offers any protection. The max protection stuff is big, bulky and expensive.

This is the game where you occasionally shoot a cop, bang a hooker then bash her brains in, and take cars over jumps, right? It was fun for 20 minutes. They've actually made it to 5, plus a couple expansions? Fail.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Are you sure you aren't a fan of the series? Because this was pretty much a drive-by...

In other news, some people like different things than you. Details at 11.

I got bored of 4 after I got stuck on one of the story missions.

It required stealing a cop car and finding some dude on their database then driveing over to the dudes truck then a long car chase at the end of which you had to storm a house full of people who didn't take well to house storming. It would have been do-able if the cops (drawn by gunfire and the car chase) didn't pull up behind you and shoot you in the ass while the gang members shot you in the face.

Also if you died then you had to start the mission over from the begining. So about 20 minutes of work before entering into an unwinable gunfight and starting all over.

Also the controls sucked and I hated my cousin.

Gotta say i don't really like the Helicopters, i haven't liked them since 4. The planes are good though.

EDIT: Another criticism shared by GTA 4 and RDR, Please Rockstar, stop putting vital game information in TINY black boxes at the top left. Put them down low next to the captions. I like to read the amazing script while i listen, i often miss those little help prompts.

F*** rockstar and their boring video games that everyone seems to love so much for totally inexplicable reasons. I mean, did anyone play LA Noir!? Man that game was bland

All their games have no soul, or characters you care about (with the borderline exception of red dead redemption) and I for one know this game will be just another one of their totally hyped up piles of steaming nothing

This is so completely inaccurate, the grand theft auto games have more variation in their missions than any other action game that I've ever played, and I've played a lot of them. And the characters are very likable satire versions of stereotypes, the game actually is a pretty pointed and witty commentary on present day America

I didn't even really care much for grand theft auto four after I finish the story...but this one I can see myself playing for a long time. The gunplay is just so vastly improved with waaaaay more to do

Totally Agreed with almost everything in this comment.

Also 'Rockstar North' (previously known as DMA design) Have been making great games (EDIT: Make that '91 haters, DMA made Lemmings) since '97 with Body Harvest for the N64. That is a fact, indisputable. Also the Only thing in the last Decade that Rockstar have published that hasn't been at least decent was Manhunt 2, even then arguably it's still a perfectly decent game as long as you don't play the wii version and have no feelings.
