Picked up GTA V yesterday.

My first GTA game I've ever truly played (besides the occasional romp at a friend's house), and I must say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Some solid gameplay, the right amount of difficulty, great dialogue throughout, and some interesting characters.

My only initial complaint, that having come from a modded Skyrim on PC, the graphics didn't impress me. But the world is pretty huge. Only a few hours in, and looking forward to more.

F*** rockstar and their boring video games that everyone seems to love so much for totally inexplicable reasons. I mean, did anyone play LA Noir!? Man that game was bland

All their games have no soul, or characters you care about (with the borderline exception of red dead redemption) and I for one know this game will be just another one of their totally hyped up piles of steaming nothing

This is so completely inaccurate, the grand theft auto games have more variation in their missions than any other action game that I've ever played, and I've played a lot of them. And the characters are very likable satire versions of stereotypes, the game actually is a pretty pointed and witty commentary on present day America

I didn't even really care much for grand theft auto four after I finish the story...but this one I can see myself playing for a long time. The gunplay is just so vastly improved with waaaaay more to do

Totally Agreed with almost everything in this comment.

Also 'Rockstar North' (previously known as DMA design) Have been making great games (EDIT: Make that '91 haters, DMA made Lemmings) since '97 with Body Harvest for the N64. That is a fact, indisputable. Also the Only thing in the last Decade that Rockstar have published that hasn't been at least decent was Manhunt 2, even then arguably it's still a perfectly decent game as long as you don't play the wii version and have no feelings.

Body Harvest was my favorite game after Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. I had wanted a game where you could just jump in a wide variety of vehicles for a long time, and Body Harvest delivered. Looking back now I see how it was the prototype for GTA III.

Back from holiday and finally managed to sit down with it only for about 1/2 hour but it is already one of my favourite games. The details are outstanding and I was in awe driving a sports car down a long road whilst the sun was going down, I was blown away.

The fighting is also hilarious, tried to start a fight with some gangsters and ended up diving head first into a pole.

Going back on in a few mins, time to try and explore more of the city, not even started the outskirts yet, this map is huge!

Another great thing is the soundtrack. Bringing in Tangerine Dream was an absolute masterstroke. During the skydiving flight school mission the song that plays is absolutely Magnificent and brought to mind Tangerine Dream's seminal work on their Album 'Hyperborean'.

As a fan of ONLY the real GTA and GTA 2 from the 90's, and not the 3D ones from the 00's, I never cared about the GTA franchise when it went 3D.

GTA V, though, on the initial pass, is probably one of the 'best' games I have ever played when it comes down to city realism. I mean, I feel like I can climb any building, enter many of them, etc... Playing GTA V makes me feel like I am in a real city, not in a video game.

I love it.

Ok, one beef with the game. If you shoot a coyote around a dog, the dog will randomly attack you and kill you. Not a fan of that.

the only minuses i can give the game are that the soundtrack is kind of gakky, i am not into pop, country or rap. I loved Vice City because it had Slayer and GNR. The camera angles in cars could be a bit higher, it is hard to see what is in front of the car way too often, bigger vehicles make this worse. There are too many freaking controls, i find myself all too frequently doing something than what i am trying to do because there are so many button combos.

I have only seen one graphical glitch so far and that is pretty good.

I do seem to have this problem with money, it seems i spend less money on guns than i do on strippers.

Meh, another overhyped game which I probably won't play. I got bored of GTA when it started taking itself too seriously but forgot to include good writing.

edit: Aaand I just realized much this topic has drifted since he original post and how sudden this post must seem. Derp.

For whatever reason I bought IV years ago and stopped playing around 25% completion. This past weekend I started playing again and intend on finishing the game - still deciding on whether I should get V now on wait a while.

As an example to sum up everything great about it, I was driving along a busy highway in a golf buggy, and spotted a guy tied to a lamppost, butt naked. So I pulled over and untied him, listened to his predicament, and spent the next thirty minutes whizzing around the map, taking him home, then finding his best man at a diner, then acting as the impromptu driver for the guy's father in law's fancy wedding car whilst the best man elaborated on the night's events. Then I went and stole a submarine.

I guess you could say it's just a general improvement on every aspect of the past few games in the series.

Except fething helicopter flying.

Actually, this is one of the better done parts of the game.

Genuinely legitimate aircraft controls. Sure, its still a simplified version of the real thing, but now things like turn rates and bank angle matter. The helicopters fly like how helicopters do. The triggers are the collective (up and down control), and the stick is the cyclic (bank and pitch), while the bumpers are the tail rotor pedals (yaw). Its a very simplified version, but at least it feels like a helicopter and not a slightly modified airplane.

As a student helo pilot, I love it.

Seriously, the helo stuff is bang on man. Well, for an arcadey video game.

Also, Trevor is awesome.

That doesn't sound interesting to me in the slightest. I'd much rather manage and orchestrate a criminal organisation.

Seems not. Seems he's interested in something the GTA series has never pretended or wanted to be about.

My problem with the Heli controls is more the precision with which you've got to tilt the nose forward to get maximum propulsion, I find it pretty annoying having to have the stick tilted (perfectly straight)forward at all times. If you dont have it perfectly pitched the heli wobbles or simply moves at vastly reduced speed.

A minor tweak to the General flight would be to make the 'pockets' of Turbulence a little easier to make out, it would add the mechanic of 'dodging' them. Currently i only spot them when it's too late but i guess the Turbulence is pretty minor.

Another little thing i've noticed is the lack of 'romance' options for the characters, it makes one think, do these Characters and by extension any Crime-sim/murder-sim protagonists even deserve them? Michael does have his wife but she is seemingly very unpleasant and perhaps the woman he deserves. All they're left with is the hollow comfort of sex-workers and in one case a woman with Stockholm syndrome.

Honestly, the turbulence thing is pretty cool. You can't see turbulence in reality either, just rough guesses where it might be worse, but even, it'll show up out of nowhere where you least expect it.

Honestly, I love the heli controls. Finally feels like someone has actually flown them and ported them over in an arcadey fashion.

I love all the dialogue though, and the characters are all well done. I love all their stories and the problems and flaws they have.

Overall, the game feels like the right amount of tongue-in-cheek, satire, and over the top, while being reasonably down to earth and not crazy silly.

They slowed the skydiving down a bit to make it feel more like you have control in the air its trickyer to land on a set location but better than the 5 seconds it took to reach the ground before.

NO! Dating in San Andreas was the most horrid thing about that game, so much i didnt even bother with IV because i didnt want to have to deal with it again.

I found flying a helicoptor easier than flying a plane.

I'd also like an explenation as to how a broken down golf cart can explode one of the large yellow mining trucks. Because i ran a golf cart over and died from the explosion?

Thank god the whole dating is out of the game. in SA and in 4 it was horrible and it added... well... nothing at all, except for annoyances.

Thank god you can tip over flipped cars in the game now if you do it right.

Going to skydive down from my blimp now.

I wasn't saying i wanted it, in fact kind of the opposite, i'm pretty glad it's not in the game. Alot of the Protagonists in Computer games are objectively horrible people, it's actually sometimes pretty immersion breaking to have them attempt and often succeed in romance.
