Just started playing the PC version of this game again, had forgotten how much fun it is!
Is anyone still into it, and are there any good clans on EU servers that Dakka members could recommend?

I still play fairly often, but not on EU servers.

I still play PS2 occasionally on Briggs, but the population on the only Australian server has declined so much that its hard for me to actually enjoy myself. Every single night the game just feels completely dead and barren even during prime time on the weekends, looking at the sirisian.com population charts Briggs averages around 700 people total per night but i strongly doubt that more that 150 players are on for each faction at a single time.
It really upsets me because Briggs actually used to have a decent population for an Australian server and we were slowly growing, but throughout the first half of 2014 our server suffered from constant login problems and game crashes which SOE neglected to fix for months. As a result a ton of Australian players either switched over to a stable US server or just completely quit playing the game.
Its truly fethed up because Briggs will never recover from the damage SOE caused, in the span of only a few months we went from 1400 people per night to only 700 and our server is still slowly hemorrhaging players. Its really only a matter of time before Briggs is deemed not-profitable by SOE, and we're merged into a US server where we will a least get the chance to experience much larger fights but at the expense of having to put up with 200+ pings.

I play on the EU Miller server with one character for each faction, Edithae1, Edithae2 and Edithae3 (unimaginative I know but the stupid system wouldn't let me create any other names without sticking a load of numbers on as apparently every name possible has been claimed).
I mostly play TR. I have a love hate relationship with the game. Sometimes you get two massive zergs clashing together, which makes for some epic battles. But that's rare, usually it's just one zerg crushing all opposition and forcing everyone to flee before it.

I believe so, yeah. SOE had to merge many of the servers in order to compensate for the declining population. I played the game every day for about two years. Put my gaming PC away into storage last fall so I could focus on school, though. It was overall a rather frustrating experience, playing Planetside 2. The potential for greatness was always there, but on the whole SOE more or less abandoned it shortly after launch. The development team is way too small and as a result meaningful additions to the game take waaaaaayyyy too long to enter play. So it gets boring pretty fast. The game will be three years old this december, iirc. We should have at least 5 fully developed continent by this juncture, but they hadn't even fully completed Hossin by the time I stopped playing.

Thanks for the info guys, I will give Miller a try.
Sad to hear that the population is dropping. I assume though it should get a boost as soon as the PS4 version hits with free to play, although I'm guessing that it won't be cross-platform?

My friends and I love the game, but we get frustrated with it because although its free to play, it takes a long time to upgrade anything without money.
But there is nothing more fun than having an aircraft full of squad members fly over enemy lines, jet pack onto a huge structure and fight the enemy from the inside.
Unfortunately we played the other day and not many people seemed to be on, instead of being greeted by the usual huge assaults and massed battles, we had some big ish battles that quickly got spread out over territories.
So much fun early last year when there was always heaps of players online.

I used to play on Helios, then we merged with Connery. I quit my job and played all day, everyday on. Had a blast, then had to get back to real life, and Dark Souls. I used to read their forums, and it looked like they had some pretty bad server breakage for a bit just after I quit. I think they bled a lot of players. I still play every month or so, but the pop is definitely nothing compared to a year or more ago. Game was epic. Connory is still fun though.

Yeah, I did something like that a few days ago, only we dropped onto a hill side not a base. I joined a random platoon, but there wasn't a whole lot going on on Esamir for us TR as we'd been pushed right back to our warp gate. There was however a large fight raging between VS and NC over a tech plant on the far side of the continent, so instead of starting an offensive to take back the territory around our warp gate, the platoon leader had the excellent idea of sticking our noses into the VS-NC battle.
We filled up 3 galaxies, flew deep into enemy territory, and dropped a hundred TR players onto a large ridge overlooking the battle. That's 100 TR Maxes, engineers, medics, snipers andg heavy assault troopers making a nuisance of ourselves harassing any Armour and aircraft passing by. The VS and NC quickly stopped fighting each other and started bombing the gak gluttonous ridge line. It took them half an hour to root us all out, and we had absolutely no armour, aircraft or sunderers. Just spawn beacons, dozens of medics, and a swarm of very annoying rocket and flak toting TR players.
I think I got like 100 certs from rezzing people alone.
