Actually I read the damn books...And I hate that...I'm just too long in the hobby to say "no" to anything which has a GW stamp...
But the books are....Let's say quantinty =/= quality...Ooo but the people love their x-men fightning ...so......

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."
Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

Honestly I will probably read the key books about major events in the HH, and a few oddball ones, aside from that I just want to read about the Siege.

Ah but you forget, the faceless internet makes you 8ft tall and 'ard as nails so you can talk gak about people. It's that pathetic it's chuckle worthy.
On a lighter note, I think most people are still following the books. It's just we all are fed up with pointless books. And we're pretty much all just waiting for the assult on Sol, siege of Terra, battle for the Palace, Horus and the Emperor' rumble, and finally the Emperor' last words. (Personally I'm waiting to see who lowers the shield of the Vengegul Spirit, and my monies on little Horus).
There are one or two other bits like the whole Dark Angels thing, Cypher and Cruze' death that I'm waiting on the out come/how they play out too. So in short, plenty to look forward to. Just don't expect me to rush to buy the new books, I'l wait for the reviews.

I don't think they'll do Curze's death - its already pretty well covered in the Soul Hunter series.
I read somewhere that the horus heresy lasted for 7 years.
The first heresy book, Horus Rising (according to wikipedia) came out in april 2006 so that'd be 7 and a half years already.
Although counting from the first book to mention the heresy...

I hope it does, I am running out of shelf space.
I'm started to get a bit disenchanted with it though, the early books I read through a couple of times because I really enjoyed them, but I am finding that less and less with the more recent ones. I think the last one that I actually kept going back to was The First Heretic.
There is just too much of it now though, mini stories, limited editions, mp3s, countless types of version of book (not really but there are a lot), tea costers and belts I can imagine will be coming soon. Too much for me to keep up with really.

Gotta admit I'm loving the heresy series but some of the books, a small minority have been awful.
It reminds me of The Infinity Gauntlet marvel ran in the 90's. It was marvels total cash cow, it spanned all their major comic titles covering a galaxy wide war and it went on and on and on..... I loved every bit of it. Then it finished and they tried to milk it some more with The Infinity War....it went on and on and on spanning multiple comic titles. I lost interest and so did most people. My love of comics lost something around that time. It was just too much written to quickly and quality got poorer and poorer

I imagine when they do the battle for terra it will be some type of exclusive thing costing $50US for a 30 page story. Although I'm hoping I'm wrong.
The real question is how many FW HH books will it take to get to the end? I doubt they are going to take this long yo get to that point. So you can bet BL will wrap it up by that point.

If they do a limited edition, shorty thirty page story, costing too much then expect nerd riots rivaling the Poll Tax riots.
Seriously though, I think at the very least Ebay will be flooded with unwanted HH books as people quit in rage and most turn to FW in protest.

It is taking a lot of books. But it took place over the entire galaxy... the galaxy is HUGE. So... of course its going to take many books.
Also people complain that characters such as the Khan, Montarion etc haven't been developed yet but still complain there are too many books. There are so many characters that it would be impossible to develop them all with even fewer books.
Great - your favourite primarch has had his time in the spotlight. Other peoples may not.
My favourite series was Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series and boy was I impatient for the final show down between the main hero Richard Rahl and the main Villain Emperor Jagang. But I tell you what - it was worth the wait!
Similarly when I read Bernard Cornwells Sharpe series I read them in order rather than skipping straight to Sharpe's Waterloo... and it was more than worth the patience. Many times the British and Portugese got pushed back into Portugal, and it seemed like they would never reach French soil. But due to history I knew they would eventually. It's the same with the HH.

Here is a metaphysical question, did it ever actually end? I would postulate no, and that in 40k they're still fighting it out. Ergo, asking for the series to be over is akin to wishing 40k to being no more on a certain level.

So, as a newbie to the series, I'm only up to Fulgrim and I absolutely love the Horus Heresy. That said, 30-something books later and I could see it getting a little redundant or draggy.
That said, did anyone else find the Flight of the Eisenstien, or the fate of the Loyalist Death Guard REEEEEALLY sad?
That whole seen where Temeter and Huron Fal are holding each other as the Virus Bombs melted their fleshy bits was just gut wrenching. And then (spoiler alert) Loken and Torgaddon getting smashed. My guts hit the floor when I read Aximand taking Tariks head. @.@
Personally, and my OCD doesn't help here at all, but I really want to know all the ins and outs of the Thousand Sons, Magnus and the Fall of Prospero. I'm so tempted to jump ahead from Fulgrim, but my OCD just won't let me. That said, I was satisfied with Ahriman:Exile. Actually thought that would've made an excellent movie.

To be honest, I've loved the series since I began reading it back in 2008 (late to the series).
I've bought all the collector's/limited editions (with the exception of the most recent one).
After Aurelian, the other limited editions didn't capture me at all.
I finished up "Mark of Calth" and only enjoyed a couple of those short stories. None of the book seemed to talk about anything else except Calth, which we all know what happens.
I'm STILL waiting to read "Vulkan
Lives" and the new "Unremembered Empire".
I refuse to order the outrageous prices from BL, and wait 5-6 months after they're out to buy it from Barnes and Noble.
The fact that they're now making it mandatory if you want to read the newest books, to spend over 15$ for a larger/hardback edition of the books is quite frustrating, especially considering how the story just doesn't seem to be moving forward.
...Rant over on that.
I do, however, want to learn more about Jon Grammaticus, Pious and the other Perpetuals. I want to hear more about the plans of Alpharius and Omegon. I want to hear how Guilliman trys to re-unite mankind w/ the aid of the Emperor.
I want to hear more about the defenses of Terra. So many of the earlier books talked about Terra and, specifically, what the Emperor did to chagne it. What happened to that? They aren't even talking about what he's going through anymore, just "Said primarch attacks here, Word Bearers fight here, Horus sits around and tells demons and people to do this...".
If you read "Ahriman: Exile", you can learn more about what happens to the Thousand Sons after the fall of Magnus (I won't spoil that here).
Anyway, I've read all the books. I won't get into the silly e-book crap, or the audio dramas for 30$ a pop.
I just feel they are opening up so much just for the sake of having people come back to the books and hoping something will change.

I do think I would like to pick up Unremembered Empire. I enjoyed the other Ultramarine/Calth novel, and I like the Ultramarines in general.
On hard backs/paper backs, I used to be a purely paperback kind of guy. They're lighter and easier to transport. As I've gotten "older" I've come to enjoy having hard backs. They look nicer, hold up better, and I enjoy the 'feel' of them a lot.
It might have to do with having a kindle as well though (which I mainly bought for travel, as I was traveling a lot for my work and it was easier than paperbacks).

Vulkan Lives was fantastic, as long as you didn't like John Grammticus or Curze (though I really like how Curze was portrayed) . I've read almost the entire series (there are about 5 books in the center of the series that I haven't gotten to yet, and everything from Angel Exterminatus to Unremembered Empire has been extremely well done They are starting to weave the books between each other, so you don't just have Nick Khyme writing about the events that happen in Vulkan Lives, or waiting years to figure out what happens to the word bearer vigilator captain in the book, nope Dan picks it right back up with Unremembered Empire. The series is hitting its stride and the Black Library has found the correct group of authors to tackle this story. Maniac_nmt, if you liked Know No Fear, pick up Mark of Calth, the short stories contained in there are really good and serve to flesh out how different the Ultramar system is when compared to Macragge. Also it should be hitting mmpb (small normal sized books) in the next month or so.

Unlikely, though everything ends eventually. However it's safe to say the series will still be ongoing 10 years from now.
GW has very little interest in quality, BL is no different. I lost interest in the series around the BLood Angels story. It's basically been anthologies, reprints, and limited diction hardcover bullcrap gimmicks since then.

Just finished Flight of the Einstein the other day- Garro is now on par with Loken as my favourite character. Flight of the Einstein for me is the best book so far (early in series obviously)
The whole third book (and the parts of the fourth that dealt with it) were killer. I just loved how the loyalists held on... until

I envy those who have just begun the series...
I will suggest all of you to read "The Horus Heresy: Collected Visions", by Allan Merrett. It is the 2007 "background book" that triggered the series, and it depicts the full story, from the very beginning to the bitter end.
There are two versions:
1: The good old one: the original version from 2007. An epic masterpiece. I will recommend this one. It is dramatic, brutal, dark and epic. Lets many things unresolved, makes you wonder what really happened and it is written as Codex were written in the previous editions (a mixture of legends, random information and propaganda). Includes really cool art.
2: The new one: a new version (2013) written to include all the disgusting and the of that many authors indulge on in the Horus Heresy books (2007 - 2013). Two volumes, each far more expensive than the original. It seems to rewrite significant parts of the story to make loyalist more "heroic", so it is not that dark or epic. More about how the good guys save the day in every chapter. May include additional stuff on your favorite heroes. Haven´t read it. Includes some new cool art.

I don't mind GM making the HH series a cash cow, because its really awesome to read about the legends (after having read so many 40k books).
But I would really prefer if they made a path of books that cut through the story in linear (at least moving forward) fashion while making side books or expansions that fill the gaps as a separate entity (like the "Space Marine Battles" books)... could be called "Battles of the HH" book series. Then you keep the die hard fans and the more casual readers both happy.
I personally want to get to the end now in the next 10-15 books, but still be able to go back and read about some key wars/battles later....
Looking forward to post Emps v Horus story, where there are much more unknowns to explore and perhaps more revelations then can be in HH.
There are a few books that were really not that much fun (damnation of pythos??? - it was ok, but total side book!), but Vulkan Lives....
But on the whole... still enjoying it... but tiring at the side paths and dead ends.
That's my opinion anyway
