Who are these neckbeards? Anyways I dislike them they are typically younger then my GW crowd. I find them annoying, disrespectful and douchy. They don't have a hobby. They don't have an art. They have checkers made from cardboard. I know I'm over simplifying it. That's my opinion though. That being said I'm 100% certain my FLGS would close without them. Furthermore my dislike of them is mostly a internal thing. You know "hill people" hate "valley people" and vice versa. They have actually never done a single thing to me to warrant my hate.

I've been playing magic longer than I've been playing warhammer, although I don't do so much of it these days. Got a blue/red Storm deck that's fun to pull out just to see how much of an explosion it causes, but that's it. Never was super-competitive either - it's a game, like any other. Which is pretty much how I feel about Magic players as opposed to Warhammer players. It's another expensive yet entertaining pastime. Cardboard crack vs. plastic crack. Plenty of agreeable and disagreeable people in both hobbies.
...that said, I've yet to replicate that "new card smell" with anything Warhammer related. "New book smell" is close, but not quite there...

Personally I enjoy having the Magic players on hand at the shop. Most of the non-younger crowd have some interest in my hobby and usually will ask questions about how to get into 40k which I am more than happy to oblige.
Plus between games we all like to play games like Resistance, Spartacus or Munchkin to wind down the evening when they aren't drafting or playing Standard. Then again I have a feeling my LGS is an exception to the rule when it comes to interaction between them, have been to a few where the crowds didn't mix well.

Being a long time Magic Player myself (though not as serious as 40k) I have to conclude that:
As long as everyone is respecting each other, it is all good. It is like a classroom, a workplace, or a library. You don't yuck the other person's yum and you leave them be with as little harassment as possible.

I see them as a necessary evil in order for the LGS to operate.
Ranked just above that of cosplayers.
I find their willingness to part with stupid amounts of money FOR A SINGLE CARD to be part lunacy and part insanity (as in some I know have spent more on a single CARD than I have spent on wargaming in 20+ years).

Yeah, I play both and I've probably spent about the same amount. I'm not much for people of any sub-type so... meh.
Funny, there is probably an MTG forum somewhere and they're complaining right now about the strange men with their rulers and toys, firing dee-weapons at each other who are taking up valuable card-space with their over-priced junk.

Most stable buyers of stuff and a lot of the income my FLGS comes from MtG . Glad to have them , they are more civil then table top players , their rules and tournaments are a lot better structured too . They are also better for late night for fun gaming . Doing a draft is ton of fun , doing a 500pts game where one dude brings a DP+helldrake+10cultists is not.

Card players are no worse than wargamers. I find fat stinky neckbeards, just like I find normal decent people, in both hobbies.

Indifferent. They keep most hobby shops open but I care more for the players. They are the same as wargamers and rpgers (and any other hobby member that goes to such shops for different reasons).

I'm puzzled as to why it would be assumed that I would have an opinion about 'Magic Players' as if they're all the same type of person, rather than a bunch of disparate people who all just happen to play a particular game.

Eh. I played the game once upon a time, before it got very big or organized. Now I'm on the fence about them. For the most part, they're jerks toward people who play miniature games, take up all the space in the store, vandalize the terrain on the 40k tables, and generally cause massive amounts of noise and B.O. But on the other hand, they spent ridiculous amounts of money and allow stores to stay open. So, you know, a balance.

This. I got into 40k because we switched to a new LGS and there were people playing with soldiers during drafts, so I checked it out. I'm not surprised or even disappointed that some people are so opinionated that they would hate a whole crowd of people like 'Magic players.' Disappointment would presume that I had hope in humanity.

I have a couple problems with the magic players at the last couple of stores in different cities I've lived in. For one there seems to be the smell of magic (yuck) in the air. Two, most of the players dont seem impolite but the ones that are try to make up for it (which is true of any gaming community but its all the more annoying while trying to game with those who are not). Three I dont know if its because magic is cheaper or whatnot but it seems to draw a less desirable, for lack of a better term, customer base. You know various forms of shabby dress and again the smell. Fourth is one I find rather hilarious. Extremely large gamers. Some i find quite jolly. The ones with shirts the show off their front butt and plumber butt simultaneously even whilst standing for example. My favorite so far is at a gaming store in VA. The largest Magic player ive seen and its friends were complaining that the stores metal chairs weren't large or strong enough to support them and demanded better ones. Now I'm sure that 40k players have some larger players as well (I've only met one in the last couple years) but so far none as to the size of the magic players i see weekly.
And thats my rant. Might not be logical or anything but theyre my reasons. As much as i enjoy the store staying open due to 20-30% of the stores income coming from Magic, I just wish there was another way.

Oh man, I got that beat. There's one magic player at my lgs who is at this point too wide-assed to even sit in a chair anymore. He brings in one of the benches from outside the store, and he's broken two so far that I know of. To top it off he's a professor at the local university, and yes he's the TFG of professors.

I personally do not play MTG anymore but the flgs has become overun with people that do. I understand it brings in tons of cash for the owner of the shop but at the same time when he opened it was all wargames and since the influx of MTG players it is the main focus of the store. If you want any figures you pretty much have to order them from him or shop online now and 40k, WH Fantasy and pretty much any wargame are only scheduled for orgagnised play once a week while MTG is now scheduled six times a week.
So all in all I have to say indifferent seeing as i've pretty much been shoved out the door by them.

Oh and one of my other problems. Is being told I need to leave the store because there is a magic tournament twice a week at least. Now on average i know they make about 300-500 dollars on a larger tournament night. Not counting the fact that players immediately trade their cards back in for more packs to buy more packs ect. But I know that 40k players spend an equal amount to that a month as well. Now every store ive been in says that 40k players have to "rent" the store to organize a tournament. But magic tournaments are ran by the store at least twice a week.

The amount of fat shaming and nerd shaming going on in this thread is appalling. Mtg and 40k draw the same crowd. I play at the Reaper HQ in Denton, Texas, and even they praise Magic for keeping business open.
On the other hand, many of the 40k players I've met have been the worst of the bottom barrel nerdboys. The Mtg players are mature and civilized. This assumption is supported by my anecdotal online experience in the two hobbies as well.

How's your store setup? Has it occurred to you that the issue might be space and room? Because the inverse can also be true. Whenever we run a 40k tournament or Apocalypse Game, there's never room for Magic players because we've got foam boards on tables and other tables where people put their models on.

At my old FLGS the magic and warhammer players had a friendly rivalry that we would have fun with/make fun of. One of the running jokes was to call the other side "neck beards" despite the fact no one on either side had neck beards.

Havent ever had to play with magic guys around. How ever my local store use to have 40k and pokemon on the same day. Their time slots overlaped about two hours. Now let me tell you theres nothing more annoying then 30+ people (mainly kids under 14 but up to the ages of 40) screamiing and going about the way they did.

Overall I don't mind the MtG players. Sure I've met a couple of giant donkeycaves who prance about like they own the store and demand we clean up "our useless crap" and give them the tables, but overall most I find are generally a 'live and let live' type. And when they do ask questions or maybe show some interest in what we're doing with our toy soldiers, they come across as genuinely interested and not elitist at all.
Now the local Warmahordes players... Yeah, there's a class of 'uber elitist dicks who love to poke endless fun at those of us who enjoy 40k/Fantasy, typically pointing out how we're nothing more than GW fan boys who love being bum-raped by the world's worst company, how awful the rules are and that competitive play is all about who's codex is the newest/most broken/Ward wrote it, etc...
Funny thing is, half of them are the TFG's who got themselves tossed out of the local GW store for being TFG's, such as wearing highly offensive attrite, lack of personal hygine, dropping f-bombs in front of kids & their parents, savaging Little Timmy's random Smurf army with their cutthroat 'Ard Boyz lists and so on.
I've honestly never met a nice Warmahordes player. I've met plenty of decent MtG players though, and I'm grateful that they do spend extremely silly amounts of money on their cardboard crack, since as has been mentioned plenty of time above, they're the ones who really keep the lights on and the tables with a warm roof over us all!

my issue with magic is theres a lot of single cards that can completely nerts your strat, vastly limiting what you can do. Also, they release new cards so much and completely make old cards unusable that you are forever buying cards in bulk to play. No thanks lol.
