Yeah. Why anyone would like a character whose most memberable moments in like, 4 or 5 decades is 1) beating his wife and 2) beating Loki with... A swarm of ants confuses me. One was shocking because it's wtf are you doing man and the other was just laughably bad writing spurned by Stan Lee's unending attempts to make an unlikeable douche cool (not one of his finer moments).

Wait, isn't Douglas...older? Not ancient, but older. Pym shouldn't be much older than Lang. Also, Yellowjacket. I feel like the tweet was written as damage control. It wouldn't be a stretch to have Yellowjacket be a villain in the end that Lang has to stop. Time will tell, I guess.

Either that Hank Pym was never Ant-Man, or that Hank Pym was Ant-Man decades ago and is now retired.

My guess is that Marvel recognises the damage that one misinterpreted instruction has done to the character, and doesn't want the movie to bomb because of it.

Yeah... Perhaps they are going down the watchmen route of having a retired Antman I and active Antman II, that would allow them to avoid all the negative connotations of having Hank Pym as their main character.

Well, just as Ultimate Marvel escalated from the normal strip of him accidentally slapping her to purposefully beating Jan, I think the movie universe should take it the next logical step forward: he should beat her with a crowbar then tag out and let the Joker get a couple wacks in*.

Why you gotta make it a woman thing? My name is Hats and I think all genders should be beaten with crowbars equally!

I think it'd be fun if Yellowjacket was the bad guy, but Yellowjacket was also Pym, only he didn't know because Pym's mind has cracked.

And that means we get no modern day Janet? Aww...

I'll be honest, I really can't give a gak about ant man, I still don't understand why he's even getting a movie while some way more deserving characters are being left out. :S

..might work I guess and he's a mate of Downey Jr too so he might cameo or somesuch ?

Still prefer Aidan Gillen personally but ...

Hmm, interesting. I had been wondering for a while whether they would go down the Pym or Lang route, and seeing this, I think it is the best way of doing it. They can have an older Pym to avoid immediate connotations with the negatives of the character, while still remaining true to the origin of Ant Man, and can also bring in the new (and better in my opinion) Lang Ant-man.

And for anyone wondering where the older Ant Man was in the previous films, he actually featured in all of them, he was just too small to see

Also, Depp as Strange would be great, and him and Downey Jr's Stark would work amazingly well.

So .. Ant man? Did they run out of ideas already? Aren't there like 100 other Marvel characters to choose from?

As much as there is a lot of hate for him, Ant Man has been an integral part of several Avengers lineups for a long time. To leave him out would probably leave a lot of people dissatisfied as seeing a fairly major character be cast aside.

That said, I imagine this film will perhaps take itself a little less seriously to work properly, but that's no bad thing.

To be fair, they had suggested a few years ago that if/when Ant-man came, it would most likely be Lang and not Pym.

Should we change the thread title to "Paul Rudd is Scott Lang" or "Paul Rudd is Ant-Man"? I mean, if it's confirmed he aint Pym, it's time for an update, right? I wonder if they're using the story of him starting by stealing the costume to commit crimes to save his daughter's life from disease. I have to confess, I know next to nothing about Lang's history, but that EMH episode makes enough sense as a normal marvel storyline.
