How do the new Tyranids compare to the Imperial Guards?
Tyranids can compete. They take down Guards.
Draw. Threats on both sides are neutralized, no one gets the Relic and objectives are tied.
IG is still the stronger army. They win thanks to the high amount of AP2 firepower in their army.

A very tight game, it felt like the dice went doh for both you. You always do great battle reports, so cheers for that sir.

Someone might have mentioned it but Tervigons cannot keep warp blast. It's WC 2 and they're ML 1.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

He did amazing despite a fluffy list and some questionable target priority. Had he gone for the tervigon with his vendettas and the zoanthrope with his outflankers and veterans I think he could have won through synapse alone. I think punishers are a tad better then exectutioners, but thats more personal preference. I prefer VOF over direct fire blasts.

He REALLY hates biovores apparently

The punisher with Pask would have been really nasty against my army.

Yeah, Bill played pretty well. I just managed to survive due to his poor shooting (we both had rather sub-par shooting....with the exception of my biovores).

Biovores were golden in this game. I'd say they were probably my MVP's in this game.

Yeah, we both had some bad luck. With the exception of my biovores and his 1-shot-kill of the bastion, we both had some awful shooting.

Yeah, someone did mention it. I missed it. I'm glad his Warp Lance didn't do anything. If I'd destroyed a tank with it, I'd have to rescind my win and call this battle a No Contest. Fortunately, it didn't affect the outcome of the game at all.

As typical, great report.

tactics question: On turn 3, why go after the plasmacutioner with your warlord? There is an okay chance to expode it, but It would have been really reliable to take out the vendetta from behind.

For a number of reasons.

1. I wanted to keep my flyrant in the air and swooping. Not sure if I could have remained flying had I gone after his vendetta (but now that I look at the photos again, I probably could).

2. His plasmacutioner is scoring and worth +1 VP if killed.

3. His plasmacutioner is a very dangerous threat with its 3 blasts + lascannon, especially to my dakkafexes.

4. I could potentially kill 2 tanks with this move. Vector-strike vs the chimera and Warp Lance vs the plasmacutioner in the rear.

5. I don't want to stay in the center of his army where the whole army can fire at my flyrant. I want to get to the outsides to deny him some of his shooting (at least to my flyrant).

6. There is a piece of 4+ cover terrain that I wanted to take advantage of by flying towards the plasmacutioner.

Thanks for the response, makes sense. I face vendettas more, so I may just be gun shy of them...

For a single shot, warp Blast has a decent chance to kill, especially agaisnt AV13/14 armor.
Hitting rear armor, I think you are much better off with the devourers. On turn 4, it may have worked better to use the devourers instead of the Warp Blast. (OTOH, it looks like on turn 4, you forgot to shoot your second weapon.)

Man I was pulling for your opponent right at the end there lol. Would've been neat to see an upset like that completing almost every situation that needed to be done for that to happen. Oh well great report again Jim I knew you'd pull the win.

Ah, I was hoping Bill would win with the army we had just painted for him!

Great game though, Jim. Better luck next time, Bill!

Your Tervigon is really rocking in these games, and hasn't seemed to be very threatened in most of them. Very glad to see it is viable and useful

Mad props goes out to the gentlemen at Frontline Gaming for even in defeat my army still looks good. Going into the bottom of turn five I felt I would be able to take the game as I had all the pieces in place. Really did put a damper on my game plan when my outflanking units (even with re-rolls) came in on the wrong side of the table. I was the one that put that objective in his backfield for the sole purpose of using those troops to either take or contest it. The Executioner just failed me at the end there as all three of his blast scattered into the wind with only my lascannon hitting one. I did a solid volley with my veterans on the relic but Jim was making 5 up saves like a boss all game in that terrain. Was a great game and will be tinkering with it as I make my way to LVO and with some luck throwing down with Jim again there.

BAO 2015 : Best Space Wolves.

The best battle plans are the simplest. Just run forward and punch your enemy in the face.
