No way I'm dropping 115 bucks on a single model. :I Nope, nope, all my nope.

I am currently working on a Battlewagon conversion, using a 15 dollar M3 Lee tank I got laying around. Coming along nicely, so it will add some nice versatility I lacked.

I did win my first real game today using Bike spam, which felt amazing. Chaos usually roflstomp me into the ground, but in all fairness, my opponent changed his usual tactics greatly, and it cost him the game. Biker Nobz are now my bread and butter. And once I finish doing a kustom Wazdakka, I can actually use a Biker Warboss (Since I'm using a Bikerboss as a Proxy for Wazz.)

I do plan on getting jets, either through converting cheaper models, or maybe stop being a tightwad long enough to pick up two actual Dakkajets (As they aren't THAT expensive, and look awesome to boot).

I've also decided since I don't run Ghaz, I'll proxy him as a Meganob to join my lonely 2, so I can field a minimal squad for kicks (Until I learn to make my own MANz out of all my extra Nob bits laying around.)

Just got my knight and making now. My biggest fear is lootaz. 3 full squads on average can almost one round a thunder hawk gunship.
The same 3 squads could strip 5 hull points from a knight from front armor right through the ion shield. If some can draw to a different facing, he's done.

I'll say D: Even if the win was an accidental 'gimme', I'll take it! Was a bit of a confidence booster. Even if my opponent (also my room mate) keeps complaining, it just proved that I, for once, did make enough correct tactical choices to make the day mine. Though his anger that my bikes are capable to move, shoot, and assault made him near table flip rage. His own fault for putting that assault unit in my 18 inch shoot and my 12 inch move range

What? No they can't.

Even if you had 45 Lootas (which is 675 points), getting the average hit roll of 2 shots would only get 2.5 hull points. You'd actually have to get ALL of those Lootas to bypass the Ion Shield (which is frankly impossible unless you're trying to get hit) to score 5 hull points on average. So the result would be somewhere in between 2.5 and 5 hull points.

When's the last time you saw a list with 45 Lootas?

By contrast, 4 Meltaguns in 2D6 range would score one penetrating hit on average, which is 2 hull points, plus .148 from glancing, plus another hull point on average from D3 rolls from destroyed damage results. And that's assuming on front armor against the Ion Shield, which is much less likely with drop pod melta which is far more able to hit the rear armor than a bunch of backfield lootas would be able to, so it seems to me your real threat with knights would be drop pod melta.

One unit of 4 meltagun Marines in a drop pod doesn't even cost a third as much as 45 Lootas, for reference.

^^

I'm just hoping I don't have to face any of those :( Wishful thinking though, as nearly everyone (except maybe myself and one or two others) bought one or more of them. I don't really have the firepower to take em out, and I doubt Orks beating at their feet will do a heck of a lot either D: Makes me one sad, sad grot.

Woops, had armor 12 in my calculation instead of 13, which, as you say, is only 2.5 avg hull points. I was thinking about them shooting at av 12 thunder hawk armor immediately before, and the 12 got stuck in my head.

In answer to your other question, I have an ork friend who runs his 45 lootaz every game, and they tend to bring home the bacon for him.

Yeah, 45 Lootas would actually probably be a great idea

I would find it kind of hard to digest buying 9 boxes of them, but more power to him.

45 lootas is like seeing three Longfang squads: not uncommon. Might be a meta thing. but the silly thing is that these mathematical gymnastics have not convinced people just to NOT play these silly things that 45 lootas can barely get 2.5 HP's on.

Thats my problem :p I managed to get a squad of 11 of them from an ebay lot I purchased, but can't find another deal for more. And I'm nto buying boxes that produce odd numbers of units. A box of 5 dudes, but you only have enough bits for 4? Why even do that? :(

Just posting an update that my luck seems to be turning around. That, or I'm actually getting better. I won my second game in a row against Chaos, which to say the least has left my opponent embittered. I have to say, it's the first time I've ever heard anyone complain that Orks are currently overpowered.

Was a Hammer and Anvil scenario, and I brought and Aegis Defense Line with some Grots to man the Quadgun, as he usually likes to bring a Winged DP. I stacked my Lootas behind the line as well, and set some Stormboys behind some buildings to cut off any Marines or Daemons that tried to get to the line. 2 squads of Bikers with Wazdakka leading one was amazing suppressing fire when units got too close and I could swing out from behind rocks.

Deffkopter squads ruined his day when they popped out of reserves, two squads of 4, one appearing on each side of the table to destroy his cultists holding rear objectives.

Shooty Trukkboyz comming in turn three once he had finally moved close enough to be a major threat to congest him further. Helped that his Winged Prince died turn two, since I stole initiative and my Grots got three wounds on him, then he perils of the warped on turn two D:

Needless to say a total victory felt AMAZING for once.

Sounds like a great game. We all get better if we don't give in to bitch fests about losing. No list ever beat me. Generals did.

Thats a good way to look at it :p I've gotten over my bitchiness. I'm still new and I've learned I've got to accept it. I've been taking in all the feedback my locals have also been giving me, as well as watching battle reports to pick up on what works and what doesn't against different armies. I guess the only last thing holding me back is my hold on my wallet. I've just got to invest in those last big money units to be more competitive. I've done well with what I've got, but i know I need more to fill in my weak spots. :p

Orks are my 40k love, so I won't give up on them. Though if worst comes to worst, I'll ally with some Necrons, because who doesn't love Zombies allied with Orks?

Dont break. If you can win without allies youll enjoy the wins more, trust me. As good as some of my lists may be w allies, my favorite lists have none. Winning "pure" is a great feeling

I actually never thought of doing that with a Bikerboss and Kopters. That could prove potentially devastating...

I've been wanting to round up enough Burna Boyz to do a Deathstar, even if it reeks of cheese. My only barrier is dropping 60 bucks for Wagons. So far, I've been cheap and managed to get my collection for vastly under their monetary value. I've been trying to do so with Wagons, but have been unfortunate. I know by this point I need to buy em new...but...dat cost.

Have you considered converting them? I make mine out of landraiders. Trading or finding them can be cheaper, depending.

WAAAAAAAGH! like a boss...

I want to get an Aegis defense line, but I refuse to use the imperial one. Been making a custom one out of some 1/35 scale barbwire, tank traps and sandbags, but I keep getting distracted by my orders that come in at the games store I shop at.

Grats on the wins!

If you want my advice I will say this to you.

Quantity not Quality. Orks are really good at throwing buckets and yes I do mean buckets of dice at the enemy.
the more saves he has to make, the more likely he is to fail them.

Overall tactics wise I would suggest you concentrate your fire power on high priority targets.
Do not split your force too much and try to co-ordinate your assaults to be all at once.

I find orks are all about timing, knowing what to shoot at and when to shoot it is golden.
the same can be said for Assaults.

So to recap, buckets of dice at the enemy, co-ordination, timing.

Orks is best!
