Thanks for the comments guys, they are much appreciated.

Hi all,

I got to go to Warhammer World yesterday for an INQ28 campaign day. Whilst I was down there I managed to run into Apologist and Bob Hunk, both truescaling luminaries. It was brilliant to talk to both of them (though they were elbow-deep in a heresy mega-battle) and to look through their models.

I couldn't resist the opportunity to snap this picture:

I was pleased to see that my truescales can hold up to theirs, especially as Apologist's work has been a huge inspiration of mine and I've recently been loving Bob's Crimson Fist marines.

I bought the White Scars upgrade pack to modify Segesvar slightly, and have a bit of work to neaten up my existing team (and make them a little more solid) before I begin to consider the future members of the team. Lysimachus has asked me to consider a heavily bionic marine, so that's something for me to think about...

Although it's tipping it down at the moment, I've been able to get a few different photographs with my other camera, which has produced some slightly better-quality shots.

Here's my first blu-tacked concept of the new Crimson Fist. When I was talking to Apologist and Bob, we discussed moving away from the Crimson Fist artwork, and that made me consider going back to Rogue Trader - making a Mk VI Marine. This is nothing more than a concept, and whilst there are weaknesses in the model, I hope it shows where I want to go.

Here's the Sword Bearer, who I feel is going to become the Kill-Team's Sergeant. I'm already fiddling with the idea of giving him a standard. The big change here is that he's received Hector Rex's shield. I envisage him as a champion from the Feast of Blades, a former Company Champion who simply sees the Deathwatch as his next challenge.

Next, the Space Wolf:

You'll possibly notice that he's changed quite drastically, but in subtle ways. The biggest problem I'm having is with coming up with a suitable head. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know!

Here you can see that I've given the Wolf a holstered bolter. I converted this one with a belt feed from a Thunderwolf bolter, which I thought added a nice flavour to the model.

Here you can see the near-final Space Wolf with his Fenrisian Wolf sidekick. I've been considering drilling a hole to allow the Marine to slot in and out accordingly.

They're all progressing nicely. I'm not sure if I'm entirely sold on the Crimson Fist's shoulders, but I think that some light filing will make the arms look more natural.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I spent today trying to get the Crimson Fist to look a little better. It is clearly blu-tacked, so bear that in mind! But you will see that I've altered the legs, replacing the right leg entirely and using a different torso. The Mk VI helmet is a placeholder - I would like to get the newer plastic one with slightly different vents in the "snout". I would like to use a torso closer to the MK VI style, with the piping and such.

There's lots of bits and pieces that would still be done, but I have to wait until the model dries a little more and I can manipulate it.

One of the few armies I've seen out their that really brings each individual marine to a new level of character. Keep up the good work. I will be watching in awe

Thanks for the comment. With the Deathwatch, I figure it's a prime opportunity to show the character of different individuals.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I've done some more work on the Crimson Fist based on feedback from here and the B+C.

I'm still in a position where a lot of the model is very wobbly - lots of tack holding it together and making it very fiddly. That said, I feel like it's moving closer towards the idea (or the impression) of Mark VI armour. I found in my bitzbox that I had the Master of the Marches model in Finecast. I do love a bit of Finecast - there are things you can do with it that you can't do with plastic! Whilst the Captain has a mark V chestplate, I figured that I could use the centrepiece and the cables to make an approximation of Mark VI. I cut away the shield and gorget from the cataphractii torso, carved new tracks, and superglued it all together. The cabling, having come from a couple of different locations, aren't consistent. This I know, and is an easy nitpick to make - but I have some ideas to try to sort that out. If nothing else, it provides a guideline for resculpting.

You should also see I've replaced both shoulderpads, and added a fist emblem to the power fist.

This head is (still) a placeholder, just different from the last one because this still has the ball-joint for the neck, allowing me some posability.

So, the release of Overkill has helped me along with my projects and this morning I was able to spend quite a bit of time overhauling my Deathwatchers. I even managed to get some decent photographs that weren't on my mobile.

My Librarian, Tancrede:

I've added a new arm/hand, the new Deathwatch pad and a new new head from the Blood Ravens librarian. Perhaps more obviously I've added the standard from Ezekiel. I like the motion of it (in conjunction with the tabard) and I think it looks cool. Although Tancrede is a Blackshield, I've never suggested where he's from, and I wonder whether the sword on Ezekiel's standard is too Dark Angels. I had thought about involving some sort of dremel and removing it, trying to leave the flaming book (but then is that too Word Bearers-esque?)

Taking on board some advice, I attempted to use the flaming brazier from the Salamander to create a fistful of fire for him. This is at its most basic stage and hasn't involved any sculpting or the like. I need to consider whether the flames should be more vertical than horizontal; I have put quite a bit of sideways motion in the model, so that's something to think about.

My Lamenter:

My Wolf:

New pad from the Salamander, as well as the Deathwatch bolter taken from the Ultramarines brother.

My Scythe; he has the new-style pad and a different hand on the trigger of his heavy bolter. I did consider swapping it for the frag cannon, but I feel like the heavy bolter with suspensors was one of the first cool bits of kit the Deathwatch had access to, and so it's nice to stay true to that.

Awesome. What arm/hand did you use on the librarian? I'm waiting for my bits to come in for me to try this.

Hey bkiker - I believe the arm is from a Dark Angels storm bolter, and the hand is from the Grey Knights.

One of my biggest issues with my models is my dissatisfaction. I'll occasionally rip apart models and rebuild them - and this post shows the fruits of some of that. Sometimes it can be a good thing, and sometimes it can be frustrating.

My Lamenter - in many ways my favourite figure and the standard bearer for this project - has had a slight overhaul. He has a Deathwatch bolter and I've added decoration to his shin. The blood drop is from the leg of the Librarian from the Overkill boxed set. I've also replaced his helmet with one that has an aquila on the brow.

The Space Wolf has had the bolt pistol added from Chaplain Cassius. I like that it has a sight which speaks to the idea that he works as a scout, ahead of the rest of the squad.

The White Consul apothecary has had a Deathwatch shoulder pad added, along with some minor tidying. The backpack light looked funny, so I've removed it - but I'm not sure whether it needs something in its place. I'm open to opinions there.

The Sword Bearer Champion has had a new shield arm (to allow the Deathwatch bolt pistol to sit properly in his hand) and a new backpack decoration from Chaplain Cassius. I am keen to find something that'd work well for his chest. I've also managed to find another Black Reach sword so I can replace his sword with an unsnapped one.

This is perhaps the most radically different of models - the Templar that has been floating around for the entire span of this project has found himself a new weapon. He's also found a new belt buckle as well. He has quite a nice weight in his pose that works well in person. The backpack he has at the moment is the one from the multi-melta, but I might replace it.

Here you can see the Kill-Team's 'confirmed' members. I'm up to seven of my eleven, which leaves four to go.

This picture shows the half-finished models I've been working on that could (potentially) join the Kill-Team. On the left, a White Scar member. (Perhaps this could work as a successor) with the sabre from the White Scars biker in Overkill. Then there's the Crimson Fist, who is perhaps the most complete. I like the raised leg, but he needs some work doing to the hips, and a resculpted chest. There's the Iron Talon (I've replaced the head, but I'm struggling a little with the pose due to the slight stiffness in his body. The Betrayal at Calth Praetor has a bit of a twist in the body so that posing has proven problematic. I've then got the Forgeworld Praetor, who I think has potential as a loyalist Marine.

Haha. The story of my entire Space Marines project. So difficult to be satisfied with the end result, even on models I really like. There's always some way to do it again, or do it better. I have models on the first few pages on my plog that don't even exist anymore because they were redone at some point. And then they will sit for a long while because I can't find the inspiration I need.

Your work continues to be impressive, nonetheless.
