Now I'm tempted to name all my IG guys (about 70 of them). Would suggest last names or first names, if I did that?

I name the characters in my Blood Ravens chapter, and draw from a variety of cultural and idea references. For example, my 2nd Captain is named Raphael (reference to TMNT because he's aggressive in fighting but also an immense tactnician, almost bringing warfare to an artform, referencing the painter Raphael). My 1st Captain is named Leonidas and uses the rules and model for Tyberos the Red Wake of the Carcharadons Astra. This both takes on the Leonidas from 300 and the "Leo" in both cases is Latin for lion, a symbol of bravery and courage.

On the other hand, my count as Korsarro Khan (who's name I cannot recall for the life of me) has a vaguely Russian or Eastern European sound to it. My 9th Captain of the Devastator Company is named Antaeus Atlum. Atlum is derived from Atlas, the Greek Titan who holds up the sky.


The reason for such diversity is that the BR are a fleet borne chapter and recruit from a large variety of planets.



My GK on the other hand have the characters and squad leaders named for Greek Gods. I also plan to use Arthurian names and then Roman ones but I like ancient Greece, and I need names that have a weight and authority to them, and have tried to remain thematic about it.

Librarian Zeus. Zeus being the most powerful of the Gods, the Librarian the most powerful Psyker.
Knight of the Flame Helios. Helios was at one point the god of the sun before being replaced with Apollo. Sun=good, wholesome, fire.
Terminator Justicar Ares. Ares is God of war and the footsolders.
Interceptor Justicar Hermes. Hermes was the god of thieves, travel, post, etc. and in some literature (fiction mostly) he was characterized with winged sandals.
Nemesis Dreadknight Paladin-Pilot Poseidon. Poseidon was the second most powerful god so makes sense that Poseidon be a powerful model.
Brotherhood Champion Hades. Strikes from the dead. Hades is God of the Underworld and death. Plus he's an HQ so he can be the minor of the Big 3.
Paladin Squads Apollo and Artemis (5 man squads)/Squad Artemis (10 man). Twin gods of the Sun and Moon, and 2 squads, connected but different.

Squat heavy biker crew: Bubba and Porkchop.
SM Landspeeder crew: Smedly & Smithers.
IG Commissar: Commisar Buffy (because a friend told me the model looked like Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Inquisitor: Inquisitor Lord Fokker (because the same friend told me the model looked like Roy Fokker from Robotech)
IG infantry guy with plasma gun: Skippy the Plasmagunner.
IG counts-as rule 63 Al'Rahem: Sadirah al-Hadi.
IG beastman penal squad sargeant: Laurentia Varro.

I named almost all characters in my IG.

Great White Hunter (Avenger S.F.) (and yes, it has snow camo)
Last Memory (Valkyrie)
Weedwhacker (Exterminator) + slogan: Your ass is grass...
Jagged horizon (Manticore)
Wolfmother (Executioner)
Lady Moon, Bloodmoon, Metal Box... (Chimeras)

And alot more, but I dont remember.

I use random name generators. E.g. Scifi name generator, fantasy name generators etc...
