the tau's philosphy and technology aren't enough even with the human they induct... they are just prelonging the inevetible... Unless the tau find out some way of douching both the nids and the orks that are eating them or the nids and orks eat each other they appear to be in trouble..

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

Don't you see ? The glowing thingy is the universe and he is the space shark. BTW Eldar will be the next threat to the empire because they got the next codex, than orks. It is just because in every non IG or SM Codex you got this "oh, they are so powerful and such a great threat to the empire !" While in the IG and SM fluff the empire seems pretty well defended.

From my POV the Necrons will probably have a go at the Nids before the Nids can fully conquer the galaxy. Point being that the Nids will wipe everything out, leaving nothing for the Necrons to go at, and then the Nids will move on, still leaving nothing for the Necrons to go at. So the Necrons will (if their smart) concentrate their efforts on the Nids. That will give them a HUGE supply of food, and once one or the other manage to wipe each other out, that'll leave one of the two largest threats to the Imperium gone.
But if that were not to happen, then I'd see the Tau temporarily joining forces with the Imperium and whatever Eldar are again caught in the path of the incoming Hive Fleets. Chaos may not join up with the good guys to fight the Nids, but they definitely cease hostilities until they can ensure their survival as well. Abadon may not be smart enough to defeat the Imperium, but he's not dumb enough to think that he can handle whatever would manage to take the Imperium out.
Tau and Eldar will never be able to handle an entity as large as the Imperium. Their too small, and will never be able to command the strength needed. The Tau may one day be able to grow large enough to survive on their own if the Imperium doesn't put them in their place soon, but thats also assuming the Nids don't eat them first.
And the Orcs have been around for over 65 million years and they've never managed to get their act together. Their not going to start anytime soon.
Many many years ago, I heard a rumor that GW was going to have the Emperors "will" collapse, and the true forces of chaos that he had been holding back for the last 10 milennia where finally going to break out. Massive armies of the true demons (ie. Omphalos Daemonium, and the like) would be freed and the Imperium, and all the galaxy, would be thrown into a war that made the Horus Heresy look like an afternoon battle. Now I think that would be absolutely awesome, but it seems very unlikely that it'll ever happen.

I think the Tau's major problem is that they have to expand into a galaxy essentially dominated by the Imperium. And the only reason that this exists is because the galaxy was already populated by humans, and convincing them to rejoin the Imperium would be an easier job than that which the Tau now face.
The biggest potential threat to the Imperium is its own people. Don't forget, the great Crusade saw human populations either pounded or convinced into joining the Imperium; most probably populations would swear fealty to the Emperor when they were aided in destroying an enemy, given technological aid, or witnessed the power of the Emperor and his Primarchs and heard their mission.
Ever since then, the Imperium has been pretty grotty about breakaway groups. If a planet decides to leave the Imperium, they are met with "No. You are naughty." The Imperium simply can't get it's head around the idea that all of humanity doesn't have to be under it's control, but then neither can the people who it presides over. If enough people were to realise that they can leave, and that, in spite of the Imperium's cries of "Heresy!", they can reject it's ideals, doctrines &c, but not necesarily declare war upon the Imperium, humanity's empire could quickly see itself destroyed by autonomy. Just a thought!

Wise words. Unfortunately, this is one of the hardest lessons for any single person to learn, much less an entire Empire. I mean, look at soceity today. Every major political and religious group falls prey to this same idea. Why do you think wars happen?

Currently, the greatest threat to the Imperium is no doubt the Tyrannids. However, in the future, the Necrons will easily take the place. Having four living gods that are, by all fluff far more powerful than the Chaos Gods in real space makes for a huge amount of danger. The C'tan, when they regain their strength, are an enormous threat to everything, although ironically, living under the rule of the Deciever might be the absolute best future that humanity could hope for (he generally allows tech/civilization as long as it doesn't threaten him, and as long as he gets his food in the end).

the greatest threat to the imperiam is the imperiam itself. it is slowly tearing itself apart. forget the ctan, chaos or even the nids, they aint nothing compared to all the buerocracy of the imperiam. long before anybody else wipes the imperiam out they will do it themselves. its all down to all the different departments, all the hidden agendas and stuff, Robute guillaman should never have taken the power away from the space marines. the imperiam never was meant to be run by polititions, it needs warriors to make the desisions. guilaman should have taken control, as he had the largest no of marines.

Disagree with you there. The Emperor had retreated to Earth to work on some new project, which was, doubtless, the next step in his plan for saving humanity. The first phase was conquest, the second would be consolidation, and after that, once humans had fully matured as a psychic species, peace. The Space Marines, whilst important at the time, would have been assimilated into the Imperium not as rulers, but as part of a democracy. If the Space Marines were now in control, they would have become paranoid, intent on keeping their power. As it stands, by remaining autonomous, they also remain true to their original role as protectors of humanity.

thats why you would have to make sure the Ultramarines were in charge. look at there relms of Ultramar or whatever they are called,, they have or own more planets then any other marine chapter and look how well they are run, perfect civilisation due to being led by the "perfect chapter" if they were still a legion i am sure they could manage that on a wider scale, bearing in mind as a legion Guillamen had the biggest army out of all the Primarchs and his legion was without number (obviosly it was not unlimited) but it was sooooooo large that thats were the phrase came from. If anyone can the ultramrines can. they should then do i new High lords of Terra with the chapter master instead, Marnius calgar, Dante, Grimnar and the rest would be the new 9 high lords.
