what exactly is the greatest menace the mighty Imperium faces in the current fluff. to it seems, that right now that Tyranids are really closing in on them. but since Eye of Terror, Abadon has an express route into the heart of the empire and Necron Tombworld are everywhere. and I don't even want to start about the almighty Star eating God who sleeps in Mars' core. and if the Orks would ever stop fighting each other they could easily overrun the whole galaxy. what do you think?

Chaos, always Chaos.
Mainly because Chaos swells its ranks by stealing away Imperial citizens. Its a double whammy. First they swipe some of your troops, then they kill you with them. Its a win win situation for Chaos, and a lose lose situation for the Imperium.

Of course the Tyranids they will eat all. And after eating mankind the chaos gods die because there are no emotions they could consit off. The Necrons will fall in the attempt to fight the super space ork elf human assault canon morphing suitstealers. Just that simple. Why is there no evil laughing or total insane evil laughing smiley ?

Probably 'Nids. I think that's right about Chaos teaming up with them in order to avoid being defeated themselves. Orks just ain't gonna get it together, Eldar are on the way out, Tau are just not even in the contest and Necrons (or rather C'Tan) have nothing to do but go into stasis again once everything else is dead.

today, I read an older WD, where Pete Haines talked about 40 fluff fot the release of the 4. edition. the most interesting "new" thing was that Armageddon could never really get reclaimed by the empire and the Orks hav conquered an industrial world which is now called "moredakka prime". so, they also have an express route into the segmentum solar.

The greatest threat to the stability of the Imperium is Games Workshop itself! Seriously though, as long as I've been playing, I've always thought how everything seems to the most deadly. Read the fluff about Inquisitors, and just as one tells you the Tyranids will the doom of every living thing in the galaxy, some Eldar Farseer says he's scryed the future and seen Necrons ruling everything. Maybe the most dangerous threat is indecision.

nope, the most dangerous threat to the imperium is the imperium itself. Infighting, mistrust and ignorance will eventually be their downfall.

I kind of agree with Born Again and Darkchild at the same time. In my interpretation, the greatest threat to the Imperium is ignorance. If it weren't for the fact that they were so divided, Kryptman might never have diverted the Tyranid into the Orks, Daemonhosts and daemonic weapons (in the hands of Inquisitors) might be common sights on the battlefield and slowly corrupting everything near them, and they might have ended up killing the Emperor, only to find out too late that he hadn't absorbed enough psychic power yet to fully form into the all powerful warp entity they think he would be. If they ever got their act together and decided to do something decisive, and it was the wrong decision, poof, Imperium is toast. There are too many unknowns with the direst of consequences for being wrong, especially concerning the Emperor.
On the other hand their other great threat is time. Everything is slowly encroaching in on them and they only have so long before something happens that really starts to de-stabilize the entire thing. Unfortunately because of the whole halted timeline in the story right now, you can't use that to generate suspense or excitement as everything is in the past tense, and the sum of all history simply reflects how the Imperium is in its current position, quite simply as masters of the known universe. That just doesn't work for me on so many levels...

Looking at this at a realistic point of view I would say that the Nids are the biggest threat.
From a more fluff based point of view I would say that Chaos is and always will be the biggest threat.

Only Chaos will just backstab the rest of their....how to say...'allies' after the battle ends...and its the whole story again with only Marines and Chaos marines on tourneys.
But Darkchild's/Born Again's POV is true too.How many legions of marines and the best INQs were lost because the Imperium casted the 'Ye guilty' post on them?Much more than just in rulebook says...

Could not stop laughing when I read this in the Tyranid Codex this smart little snack just slows down the inevitable ! BTW you maybe right. When I wrote the human team up when it comes to real big trouble I have not concerned that they are in real big trouble anyways. So when they starting recognize it, it might be too late. What we have not concerned is that there is still this unclear relation between Nids and Necrons. Maybe those canfodder are really the biggest threat.

Millions of lives at the cost of dozens of planets, including a mildly important Forge world. Not precisley the way to keep the High Lords happy.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

I gotta say that the Necrons are the biggest threat. Read the nightbringer fluff and the fluff in the rest of the codex. It says that they're trying to make a permenant barrier between the warp and normal space. That would mean no more warp travel, no more chaos gods (they wouldn't be able to feed off of emotional energy from living beings), and no more psychic powers. The last part would nerf the tyranids because they use psychic links to keep all the bugs under control. Since the necrons are the only race that can travel faster than light without the warp, they'd just go around and conquer all of the other races before they could do anything.
