Whoa whoa whoa. You get days off work for royal weddings and babies?

That is not fair! We have a king! I want free days for royal weddings and babies too. Your royal house is better than ours!

It's just people trying to be overly serious about what was obviously a joke. Instead of laughing, they just try to kill it and wax intellectual to try to impress everyone.

I mean, we're certainly not being sore winners. We bailed you guys out of WW1 and WW2 afterall.
I know, right?

Yeah... but it's so hard to be proud of our record when the Canadians burned down our capital.

Although to be fair, that was before we were all annexed by Texas.

No one is being butthurt, just defending the reasoning why the monarchy can be popular in the US.

There are a few Americans though who hate the royals because 1776, they are a fairly small minority though and it usually a subset of those already loaded with Anglophobia, though not always.
I am not expecting to run into any on this thread, previous royal news threads pass peacefully.

Besides we understand that nobody complains at jokes made about past disagreements, ever.

Are there really Americans who hate the royals?

Why?

Do they also hate the king of Zululand?

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Usually a subset of those who hate the British in general and English in particular. Not that it matters much.

Actually, I'd say that the royals get more positive attention from Americans than just about anything other than your musical acts, cars and movie stars.

The UK would have to be more top-of-mind for Americans in order for a genuine current of "Anglophobia" to exist here. And we are waaaaaay too self-centered for that.

By and large true, except for a few types mostly around Boston and New York who can't let go. Same guys who made the US the largest funder of terrorism in the early 80's.

Mainstream America generally likes the royals, and they do tend to be well packaged and unthreatening and a offer something of a connection to the distant past..

I very much doubt we'll be getting a holiday

Who gets to fund this new royal sprog? It's British taxpayers, to a fair extent. Some can pay their way, but the top of the tree has to find other ways to fund themselves. Tours around Buck House, for instance.
No day off for this one. It's not that high on the line of succession for that.
But, there's not much less media coverage than when David and Victoria Beckham had their first.
