An interesting side note is that a given warband don't have to dedicate themselves to a God to gain the benefits of it - case in point, Ahriman hates Tzeentch and is actively working to destroy him. Tzeentch finds it amusing, and so has given Ahriman the Mark of Tzeentch anyway.

If you wanted to walk down the "weapon makes them turn away from the IoM but not fully fall yto chaos" I would go with Tzeench

He just wants the chapter to turn away form the IoM but doesnt reveal why he doesnt give them marks or activly use them (or maybe he is). So deamon gets them to go renegade, shows up as a huge bird or something with like 40 eyes, then just pops smoke and they never see it again.

So now they are excommunicated, and not (really) fallen to chaos. Maybe Tzeench is still using them for some larger plan, maybe he is done with them has had his fun and now deosnt care what they do.
