Other players can be quite annoying (WoT playerbase) or just plain toxic (GTA Online playerbase), and it really is not worth the time getting upset at people who just want to be stupid. So now I do whatever I want when I want and to hell with anyone else.

Do you block teammates in higher tier tanks from being effective in WoT? I will track you in the open and let you die and then push your wreck around so I can stay hull down while I destroy the enemy team.

Do you think its fun to be an asshat in GTA Online freemode? I will C4 your car, wait till it respawns and then blow it up again. That's if i'm not camping you with my sniper rifle.

not always true, my first guild in Archeage was pretty garbage, but that's because they are carebears trying to be a pve guild in a pvp game. Plus the guild leader was something special. Guild members hated each other, the leadership was all over the place because their hands were tied to really do anything, if you weren't doing a guild event or hung with specific people you were on your own.

Actually, I think my Archeage guild have given Jerry Spriner enough content for a whole year if not more. The original guild leader himself could have a few months of episodes with all of his lies and insanity, I actually think he quit the game using a "a relative died" line of BS because 2 days later he was in another MMO.

The internet is full of the best and worst of humanity. Unfortunately, the worst all seem to like online games.

I find the best online interactions in games that do not have much of a pvp aspect. Guild Wars 2 is very casual, and I only occasionally run into the kinds of jerks who make me want to drop the group and find another thing to do. FFXI had next to no pvp in it at all, and I can't remember anyone angrily calling someone a noob in the whole 3 years i played. Other games that have pvp, especially random pvp (like SWTOR) tend to have more rage associated with the activity. The competetive nature of pvp, coupled with the frustration of working with newcommers or casual players makes those people who derive their sole enjoyment of the game from pvp angry when they lose a match due to their party not measuring up to their standards.

And EVE is nothing more than a method for the worst humans in the world to creatively torture other people without the risk of jail time or violent retribution. Some games have trolls, but EVE is legendary for the trolling associated with it.

I have to say that, in all the MMOs and such that I've played, I have met some really, really cool people, people whom I've jumped from game to game with at times and it makes me think, sometimes, that maybe it isn't that bad...

... and then I sit down and think about the scores and scores of people that we waded through in chat-rooms, forums, and in-game that were completely, totally worthless... both as characters or actors within the game and as human beings in general.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

It's been a long time since I played anything online (aside from Hearthstone, and even that isn't immune from Trollish behaviour), but I had an absolute blast playing Quake 4, Perfect Dark Zero and Resistance 2. Especially Resistance 2. Yes it only had two maps, but the 50 players at a time made up for that. I spent a while playing Gears Of War online as well and really enjoyed that too.

Is it a coincidence that all of the online games that I have enjoyed have been shooters?

I have resisted playing things like WoW, LoL and DOTA 2 though. And from what I've read on here, and other forums, I'm glad. I have a job and a wife who badgers me if I spend too long on a game, so my time is precious.

More than that, a major part of Eve is trolling/griefing others. Unfortunately, it's about the only thing that actually makes the game entertaining, as the actual game is really bland XD It's either find fun in tormenting others or be bored to death

Most fun I had was when I spent a summer doing hi-sec war decs, general merc work, and otherwise griefing.

No one suspects the might Battle Bestower.

I've saved all the hate mail I received. I read them now and again for a chuckle.

I had the distinct pleasure of flying with Dirt Nap Squad for a month or two. I believe they were one of the first to really create modern bomber and stealth ops doctrine. They would lock down an entire region.

I remember taking part in a drop on a gate camp somewhere in null. The camp was fairly light; some battleships with dictors and other cruiser support. When the fleet uncloaked, everything died faster than I could get a lock on.

It was glorious.

Very true! I have some wonderful memories of clan or guild based online games. Friend of mine even met his future wife through WoW (she ended up emigrating from Sweden to the UK!)

Although, I still maintain that nothing can match Mario Kart, or a couple of other 4-player Nintendo games, with some friends, some cans of beer and a few hours in front of the TV as far as multiplayer gaming goes.

Yeah, I am mostly back to playing good ol' offline multiplayer with the wife or solo. The internet brings out the worst in people and playing games or doing anything competitively makes it even worse. The guy who invents the "Punch through internet button" will be a billionaire in HOURS. I'd fully support such a project with a considerable sum of money.

...I'm serious.

Followed by quickly becoming more hated than the guy who invented the pop-up window when trolls realize what such a button can let them do.

I don't think we have much to fear from the average internet troll

I am sure most of them are able to push buttons .

And while I'm sure some people want to see someone's dick poking through their computer screen, they are by no means most people.

And yes, that is something that trolls would do with such a button

Well, that would seem dangerous to me. Very dangerous. Lots of people would keep a lopper next to their computers. Or a lighter, for even more fun.

Trolls doing stupid things in order to harass people isn't really a new idea.

Yeah, but trolls taking the risk to get their genitalia cut off or light on fire regularly would be some very, very short-lived phenomenon, I reckon. Just like said genitalia.

Tried again last night.

Played the new mount and blade Viking conquest.

First map was naval battle. We joined a few seconds late so couldnt spawn. The battle was epic, people where boarding each other under a hail of arrows and sling fire etc. Some guys made shield walls alongside the sides of boats and stuff.

BUT then one enemy player survived on a boat, our team had one boat left. The enemy player simply moved his boat waaaaay on the other side of the map and simply laughed (through typing in the chat) about it as he delayed the game.

Absolutely killed our excitement to play. It went on for a looong time before people polled to change the map.

We never got to take part in a naval battle.

It would only make it more likely that they are afraid of any kind of real-life confrontation. Especially if said confrontation is to be as painful as lighter to genitals.
