Skullmonkeys for the PS1. Hands down, greatest platformer to ever exist, IMHO. A close second would be Oddworld (Abe's Odyssey/Exodus).

I'm going to have to go with mount and blade warband, since I got it no other game has had a look in. It has everything i've ever wanted in a game. Strategy and tactics at the same time, the combination is brilliant. I'm playing on easy mode (at 660ish days and i have the start of my kingdom)so i think this game is going to last me a looong time.

My favourite mount and blade moment so far was me a tad drunk sitting in the middle of an infantry scrum thinking "this is going to be a long fight so i better be careful and not lose too much health" and BAM! lance to the back of the head.

Can't really pick just one. So many great games to choose from, honestly. Right now, I will say Ultima VII. An hour from now I would probably say something different like Baldur's Gate 2 or PlanescapeL Torment or Fallout 2 or or or. But, at this particular moment in time, I will say Ultima VII.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

I can't pick one single game as a favourite, but my top five is something like -

Star Wars Galaxies (pre CU and definitley pre NGE)
Timesplitters: Future Perfect (loved the other 2 as well tho)
Hogs of War
Toejam 'n' Earl
Speedball 2

Thanks to modern chemistry, sleep is now optional

I'll join the chorus of people who can't pick one and say a few.

For the sake of nostalgia, Banjo-Kazooie and Pokémon Sapphire.

For gameplay, it's probably System Shock 2. Though linear, the RPG mechanics work well and the atmosphere is very nice as well. MUGEN also, considering it's like Street Fighter, but you download whatever fighters and stages you want. You can even tinker with the files to change a fighter's stats and size. And if you learn how to, you can also mess with some other files to have as much as 400 character slots for 400 fighters.

Oh! And Dwarf Fortress. Not only does the game take barely any space on a computer, but with worlds being randomly generated and the potential for completely wacky hijinks to happen, *cough Boatmurdered *cough* makes every fort a new experience.

The original Syndicate. Good research and mission layout, fun weapons and interesting plot. Pretty much defined tactical combat at that stage.

Also
Space Quest. If you've played any of them, you know why.

Dragon Age: Origins probably wins overall, but best writing has to go to Neverwinter Nights 2 Mask of the Betrayer and most fun is Mass Effect 3 (say what you will about the ending, but the gameplay was fantastic).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

It's hard to pick as there have been so many decent games that I have played. I think a best game is a game that I can always go back to after having completed it and it never gets boring. I think I would put Speedball 2 up there, the first Resident Evil, Theme Park and Road Rash as some of the best games i've ever played.

I was thinking Final Fantasy 7 and at the time it was amazing, and still is, but I did try and get into it again not so long ago but found myself a little disinterested after awhile.

Honourable mentions to Syndicate, Dawn of War, Z and Golden Axe.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

There is not this idea.

Yes, and yes. It's amazing just how much enjoyment, and how much opportunity for story telling that I've got out of Dwarf Fortress. I've been playing it for over seven years, and it still finds ways to surprise me.

Total Annihilation took up by far the most of my time of any video game. Second after that was Team Fortress 2.

THat's about the only metric I have for "best".

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
