Great to see this. Personally I do fantasy in 6mm. But then I like really tiny figures!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

This is really cool. I've been tempted to do a 1/72 project and this is definitely inspiring me some more!

Lovely stuff here. Such an effective but simple way to make Orcs (just cutting the nose off and changing the skin) but it works really well.
I've seen some fantasy 1/72 stuff in my local shop, and due to this thread I was mightily tempted!

Some of those cheap 1/72 figures are now made of a plastic that holds paint. Caesar. Emhar and Italeri.
Though I have been warned that enamels never dry properly on the Caesar plastic.
Lovely project, and some inspired mixing of scales! I love the GW orcs as trolls!
1/72 pikes can be a pain - use the plastic bristles from brushes - that's floor or hand brushes, not paint brushes!

Thanks for the tip. I just grabbed a box of zevda Macedonians Pikemen to use as elite orcs....will try it. And yes, juts snip the nose and change the color of the skin...I use a reddish brown. Here is a closer look.
I am inspired by The Silmarilian and see the orcs as corrupted beings, scavenging what they can rather than these hulking uniform gw/peter jackson brutes. Anything eastern painted black works.
I have had luck with Krylon Plastic fusion primer...but some older ones flake even with that..that's one of the main reason I made them into mini-dioramas so they would stay upright and not be thrown around.
