For what its worth brother, you have my respect, and carried yourself with grace.

As a severely disabled gamer, it was a big deal for me to put in a lot of hard work to even vaguely paint to a table-top standard. I honestly never believed I could do that with my limitations, and for me it is a tremendous source of pride that my stuff is even painted "ok".

If someone tried to belittle my effort, and the genuine challenges I face, with no regard to being decent and thoughtful to a fellow human-being, I would've lost my gak, and probably asked him to immediately walk away.

I'd say you handled it perfectly. especially as I'd almost be willing to bet the guy was purposefully trying to aggrivate you, hoping you'd get annoyed eneugh to leave early

While no-one has ever yelled at me before, I've encountered the occasional random dude that feels the need to impart painting advice while I play.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to say, "I don't enjoy painting that much, I'm mostly just in it for the game." and that ended that, and we got talking about other things. One guy didn't get it the first time, and I had to say, "Look, I'm in the middle of a game, and I don't want to talk about painting right now." Which ended the conversation altogether, but that was fine 'cause the dude was a tool.

Sounds like the guy wasn't well accustomed to the finer pleasantries of gaming outside one's basement. C'est la vie, glad you've moved on.

Colour blind myself so I know how painting can be annoying especially when the colours are close
Or when some Muppet after they find out your colour blind keep asking you what colour you see this or that as.

But personally I would have hit the guy in the throat just for shouting in my face don't really care about people likeing or disliking my paint schemes but won't allow any one to scream at me that's the wife's job one she takes way to much pride in lol

Good on you for handling that better than most, and to the Store Manager for being supportive.

Glad he didn't lash out physically when you guys didn't give up the table, as I've seen things like that go sideways in a hurry when dealing with dimwits.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I love the "Not cool, bro" at the end. Like his douchebag of a friend's behavior was? Nice way to handle it though, I don't think I would have given up the table after that either.

Sounds like that guy was just an SOB with small-dick issues and probably just wanted to take your table sooner by bugging you. I might have asked him "Do you really need a wargaming table to play Candy Land?" The store owner might have been scraping what was left of me off the floor afterwards(depending on how physically big the jerk was), but it would have been worth it!

And, OP, it is so cool that you paint even though you are colorblind. You don't let your disability kill your creativity, and I find that inspiring. Keep it up, bro!

I have thi same problem and had to have my Corneas transplanted this year. So I 100% feel your shame at not being able to paint better and your anger at people just not understanding that.

I've had a similar situation come up and I didn't get to do such a cool response to it. Bravo.

Ok, I took some photos. I'm sure you can tell it's not a pro paintjob, some things are messy and need to be cleaned up. I'm proud of it nonetheless, especially the C'Tan.

ironically, I was just discussig people using 'of' when they mean 'have', lol.

Anyway, I'd be happy with those 'crons. They look good. Edge highlighting is for clean armies like Tau anyway.

kudos for the way you dealt with it. Personally, my reply to the last would have been along the lines of "well, if you weren't being ignorant, offensive and a downright jokey, I'd have offered you the table. But ehy would I go out of my way to you seeing how you just behaved? You brought this on yourself".

TFG's are the reason this hobby is often frowned upon.

Wow... I've never had anyone act like that to me. This story almost seems too amazing.

You handled it pretty well.

About your paint jobs.... anyone who starts off critiquing immediately, particularly the matter of your ability, should tell you a lot about their level of ignorance. For all anyone could know, you could be a eavy metal painter who is just using old miniatures because that's all he had for that army...

well handled sir.

I'm colourblind, and I used to have a great deal of trouble painting highlights. i didn't used to really put much effort into highlights and so forth, until it was suggested while painting blue just to add white to lighten the colour. I did so, and the results were quite positive.

Not long afterwards, when Sisters were first released, i used the same method to paint my sisters in the colours of the order of the bloody rose. While i couldn't tell, everyone else thought the results were quite hilarious because i had inadvertently painted the whole force pink!

I am now lucky since not only do i have a Wife who tolerates and encourages my hobby (most likely because it gets me out of the house at least once a week) but will also help me when i'm painting by telling me which colours will work with each other, and what combinations to use to apply effective highlights. I even have a helpful colour chart, which has no colours on it, just paint names, and it often is often surprising to opponents when they find out how colourblind i really am (tritanopia). And while other people may think a fight between Imperial fists and Emperors children looks like an explosion in a paint factory, i can't tell.

To the OP, If you want to add highlights and stuff to your figures, don't let your colourblindness hold you back, with help from friends and family you can do it. It will require a bit more effort on your part, but the sense of achievement i get when people compliment me on my Imperial fists is amazing! And i can't even tell they are yellow!!

Dude, OP, that paint job is pretty sweet. I hope you won't be offended but I did have pretty low expectations considering that you have a visual impairment. It's not perfect, but neither is mine. It should and can be a very social hobby, and part of that is helping people with their paintjobs.

I never criticise anyone's work, and I'll only ever offer advice if it's a friend or it is asked for. I think more people need to adopt this approach as we do see quite a few dickheads, and your man really takes the prize potato.
