When you say, "on its way out" do you mean, you don't like it, or do you mean, it's gotten gunky and unusable? Like granader, my W&N brushes are amazingly durable -- they just require being cleaned properly after every use. For at least a couple of months after I unwrap one, you couldn't even tell it apart from a brand new brush.

That being said, I rarely use my size 2 or 3. I don't think they get 12 hours of use combined in a year, because when it comes to painting large surfaces, I use a flat brush (or airbrush) instead, and there, the quality of the bristles matters a lot less. Even detailing titan sized models and tanks, I rarely find a use for 2+ round brushes.

Must be painting style differences.

Must say I like the look of those brushes.

I also can't say I see much difference in brushes, but maybe its time I tried new ones. Currently using W&N but I don't like them much. I always get little hairs coming out and creating a small "dot" of paint at the top of the brush. I'll have to pull/cut that longer one out :(

I've used Citadel brushes before. They are decent, but I find them comparable to your mid-range artist brush. What I do like about Citadel brushes is that they do all come in a set, which is nice because I can have everything that I will need in one package, however the prices usually discourages me from buying them. I wouldn't mind having that Citadel painting flow-chart though

I quite like GW brushes. I'm not very good at looking after my brushes, I do try but I go through them fast, and I don't want to waste money on a more expensive brush. I've never had much luck finding similar quality but cheaper brushes in hobby shops. They are either terrible or end up costing more.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the new brush range as I imagine it'll come with a price rise.

This happens with every Kolinsky sable brush. The dot of paint on the top is simply paint drying on the tip Just wipe it off with a paper towel, or even your fingertips. The hairs that stick out on the side you should never pull; almost always, you can train them to fall back in line by conditioning your brush before they dry -- twist them while wet across the palm of your hand or lips, and dry them facing down. You should always clean them in soap or brush soap too.

I actually think that synthetic brushes are quite nice to use; they're very springy and are very beginner-friendly. They go where you want them to go more than natural hair brushes, though they hold less paint. The major downside to them is twofold: the tip kinks, rendering them useless, and, they do not form a razor sharp point (unless they are a tiny tiny brush), which prevents them from doing a lot of the precision work.

Yeah, I think the old Citadel brushes are perfect for this -- people who want a decent brush but don't want to kill themselves maintaining them, and would rather buy a fresh brush every now and then. The new brushes are about the same price, I think. If you scroll up to the previous page, I put in the MSRPs in USD and CAD out of the white dwarf; apply whatever discounts you usually get from your FLGS/hobby shop

Ghaz, which WD are those pics from? Mostly referring to the layering chart. I'll pop onto the website and order one if it's available. Sadly, I don't have a store close to me so no easy access to the WDs these days. Wish they would let us get a subscription to that one instead of the visions side. Not a huge fan of the new format, honestly.

If a friend hadnt emailed me I wouldve missed the last of this thread. LOL. I want to order 2-3 of the new line coming out as I need some of the Mephiston Red Spray paint but I think I will hold off until I hear more on how good or bad they are. Im still such a noob that the GW brushes I have right now should suffice until I at least do more painting and get a little better. Plus I still need to test my airbrush again and make sure its working like it should. If you guys get the new brushes let me know how they are! If the XS Artificer was a little cheaper I would go ahead and order some but right now I can go to my local Comic Shop and get 4 old GW brushes for one of them and money's tight. REAL TIGHT. Also, where's a good place for me to order W&N that wont charge 20 bucks per brush? Amazon has the ones I need for 13USD but the wait on delivery is about 3 weeks for some reason

Oh. What soap/cleaner should I use for my brushes? Im finding that the Mephiston Red is kinda dying my tips out and its difficult to get it out so I need some good cleaner for them.
