I'm guessing the reason you can't remember is because you didn't.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

The helmets offer a good amount of protection, other than the lenses. I believe they're the most fragile part.

Why hasn't (insert real life leader of choice) been killed by a sniper? because there's a lot of people who put a lot of time and effort to make sure they don't. Every time this topic comes up (for anyone), it assumes that the target is A) a blithering idiot and B) is completely alone and out in the open, and the sniper in question couldn't possibly make a mistake. Which Abbadon isn't and wouldn't be, and that being in the middle of a chaos infested hellhole would disqualify average joe sniper from doing so in the first place.

Right? When people were asking "why didn't a sniper just kill Barack Obama when he was fighting that giant terrorist battle-mech in power armor with his helmet off?" I just said "duh, the secret service was protecting him!"
The secret service were also in giant battle-mech with void shields.

I was going to reply to another post, but now I gotta write a Fan Fic

I'm not a fan of building models without helmets. I think they look out of place in battle (and I hate painting faces). I will always swap out heads for models that come without helmets. Bare headed soldiers remind me of the scene in Starship troopers where the guy gets his head blown off during live fire training. Also, I've seen plenty of instances in the field where lives were saved because guys wore their damn helmets like they were supposed to.

Krieg! What a hole...

I am lucky, Forgeworld gave helmets to every Kriegsmen no matter the rank. Except Commissar I guess, but that's anoter thing.

As for my Scions, same business as Toofast, the 6 exception to that are the 5 Rogue Trader stormtroopers I have and a Scion I bought from a kid who glued a masked+beret head.

In one of the HH books (Nemesis?) a whole Assasinorum Strike Force is sent to try assassinating Horus.

Spoiler:
They fail and the sniper takes out a high-ranking officer instead, mistaking him for Horus. It is reasonable to assume that Abaddon also lets other people work as his double when he recons there is a threat of being assassinated

We also know that "The agents of the Officio Assasinorum are dispatched en masse to slay the Warmaster Abaddon." (From the Assassins dataslate), so maybe a sniper might be the one to take him out (not that the story will ever progress).

Even the lenses are pretty solid stuff, although obviously weaker than the plating. The fact that they are smaller helps, means less things can fit into the socket.

As far as I have seen, the helmet is as tough as most other parts of the armour. Not like the ankles or the breastplate, maybe.

As for the topic, no assassin manages to get past his security.

Calling Abaddon's hair a 'top knot' is diminishing it. It is not just a simple top knot, it is a hair tower. Or rather, a HAIR TOWER.

Much like Samson of the bible, little known fact is that Abbadon's chaos powers are directly infused into said HAIR TOWER. Like a beacon of foul energy, it draws in the warp down into his scalp.
