I know that we have already begun creating some temporary Gruntz cards for the units in the 15mm Sci Fi Gaming Facebook Game. I don't see why most 15mm rulesets wouldn't be useful.

This one came at a really bad time for me... Just got a huge tax return. Could not resist a small pledge! I really like that there is a reasonably small pledge for this one. £18 is not a huge amount of money, and the minis seem nice enough to convince me, even though I usually do not play 15mm.

I own both Tomorrow's War and Gruntz.. if you're new to 15mm..
Tomorrow's War is pretty chart heavy and the forces are locked based on the individual scenario (It's scenario based armies not points), models are based as a unit by default (not my cup of tea), and the rulebook is clumsily written
Gruntz has points based armies, fully customizable units, a 2 dice comparative goal mechanic (similar to PP), a better laid out core rulebook, and individually based units.

I'm not saying Gruntz is a superior game.. horses for courses.. I prefer it for the reasons I stated. The fully customizable bit means that no matter what I pick up.. from a 54mm monster to a Mechwarrior mecha.. I can use it.

If you're new to 15mm, the playerbase is supportive and the manufacturers seem to know each other pretty well... and even talk to one another semi-regularly. I'm new to it myself and have been blown away by the sense of community.

I have used Tomorrow's War but at larger scale. Like you say it is a very 'loose' framework of rules, I do like how some of the firing rules, flanking and the like function. I've been told it's a fair approximation of actual combined arms tactics used by modern armed forces (which I guess is no surprise, considering it is based on Ambush Alley) and I liked the way you can have different technological and skill levels of soldiers. Does Gruntz have a similar capacity?

A new update, £10,000 and the Fiddler has been hit !

We've hit £10,000! WOW!!! That can only mean one thing... The Fiddler WILL now be produced in 15mm!
Amazing as always, you guys continue to blow our minds with how excited and enthusiastic you are! With still 3 days left of our campaign too! Work is continuing on the model to make it ready for 15mm so we're not able to show it off at this moment in time, but we assure you he's going to be stunning!


Next Stretch goal, Proteus with Chaincannon.
To finish off our range of the Proteus Mechs the next stretch goal will be the main chap from the illustration on our main page. The Proteus with Chaingun will be sculpted to closely to his illustrated art, so again another alternative pose and this time holding his weapon like you would a typical weapon.

Should we unlock this goal, this will give you all the choice between 3 different Proteus Mechs (Or all of them!), the heads, arms and legs will be interchangeable so each of them can be given slighly different stances. The only limiting factor would be the right-side arm would need to be kept for the weapons as their ammo box or battery pack is on there.

Quick Railgun Proteus Update
The Proteus with Railgun is now complete, once we receive the 3D file that will be sent off to our friends at Prodos Games for 3D Printing, we'll get pictures as soon as they are available!

Strix Recon Mech Update
We've got the most recent concept art finished for the Strix Recon Mechs for you all to have a look over. These guys can be added to your pledge for the sum of £15 for 2.

Yeah, Gruntz has a very much leave in leave out design approach. Meaning, your characters can have optical camoflauge, person defense shields, neural net.. or.. you can opt to just leave those out. I'm afraid I'm too new to the system to be able to talk about effectiveness vs cost or anything like that, but it's flexible enough that if you wanted to have Cthulhu style demons fighting Starship Troopers or Colonial Space Marines... that can happen. It's not uncommon to see things like modern humans vs martians or near future humans vs dinosaurs. For the last month or two, post-apoc has been on everyone's mind because of Mad Max.. so people are buying up Matchbox cars and creating marauder type warbands.

Here's my first army.
I am taking the little spider droids from Puppetswar, they will be support walkers with shield generators.
I have infantry from two places but they look kinda like the really sleed droids from Suckerpunch (for lack of a better comparison)
I have a drive mecha that's going to be a salvage/repair type vehicle with a pair of short range lasers and a shield generator.
I plan on having all manner of crazy spider droid tanks and probably a bigger mech if I find one I feel fits the aesthetic (leaning towards the Fiddler for this army)
Then my air support will be 28mm drones from RAFM and a thing from Khurasan.

I have no idea how big other people play a 15mm army but this is something like 70ish models. Before shipping it works out to $100-$150 I think.. the shipping is the killer..

My son will probably be playing a Call of Duty type armor.. he keeps talking like that meshed up with Titanfall or similar.

Oh, I meant to say that I'm super excited this has taken off. I want to throw a bunch of money at it but the bigger part will have to wait until pledge manager since I have a move coming up in less than two months.

Well, with SOTR getting canceled, I guess that means I'll have more money to throw in on this. The Strix might make some nice 28mm robot soldiers.

Target secure! Goal Reached! Next stretch goal & Gruntz cards.

Boom! Broken through the £11,500 goal... In such a short space of time, once more you all continue to surprise us again and again! You amaze us but terrify us at the same time!

What this now means is we can get the final version of the Proteus Mech we had planned produced, the Chaincannon variant! He'll be bringing ruination to the opposition with a hail of lead, dark sunglasses donned and a cigar in his mouth! Well, maybe not the last two...

As stated in previous updates, you will now get the option to choose which variant(s) of Proteus Mech(s) you want when we launch the Pledge Manager.



Next Stretch Goal: £13,500

So, after the slew of awesome new unlocks for the last few Stretch Goals we're going to bring in another freebie here to make all of your pledges even better value for money!
Understandably everybody wants new shiny things but we thought we'd give back a little to you all for getting us this far! Plus, free boots on the ground for everybody is never a bad thing!

As such, at £13,500 we'll be adding in a Free Fire Team Bravo to all pledges of Corporal and above (also includes Lance-Corporal) to compliment the already free extra set of Fire Team Alpha to the same pledge levels.

We've created a few Gruntz unit cards for the items unlocked so far in this Kickstarter Campaign, they aren't official by any means and should give you a rough idea of what we think the MTU should be. We've also included some portrait images so you guys can use them to make your own Gruntz Cards using the Gruntz Barracks software.

Newsflash! Bonus stretch goal information for the Grand Finale!

Grand Finale...

So we have just over 4 hours left of our Kickstarter campaign and it's been an absolutely phenomenal 2 weeks for us here at WDM and of course you guys who have backed us!

So, it wouldn't be the grand finale if there wasn't a bang! We have some awesome eye candy for you all!

As stated in the previous update you will be able to add additional funds and purchase even more of our miniatures in the Pledge Manager when it goes live in a few weeks time after this campaign ends.

So we've decided to throw in an After-KS Stretch Goal. Even should we not make the required amount to unlock the current goal or the next during this Kickstarter, we will have the chance to continue unlocking a few more through the Pledge Manager. As long as you've backed at the £3 Recruit pledge or above you will be granted access.

In other news, the Talos are currently being sculpted and we've had the more recent concept art delivered for the Talos weaponry and the Chaincannon for the Proteus mech variant.



Further development has progressed on the Fiddler and that is also looking incredibly swish, so overall we're looking incredibly promising!

Communications Re-established - July Update Incoming!

Hello everybody!

It's finally that time for us to show you an update!

So in the weeks since the closing of this Kickstarter we've been hard at work getting all the various new units sculpted as well as working on all the other bits and pieces behind the scenes.

Pledge Manager
The Pledge Manager has been complete and is almost ready to launch. We're currently in talks with the chaps who will be shipping it for us in regards to finalising prices (who we will announce at a later date when confirmed, they're a good bunch who I'm sure many of you will know of). Once shipping prices have been confirmed we can launch the Pledge Manager so you guys can start picking what you want for your pennies!

We are aiming to launch the Pledge Manager at the end of this month when we have everything sorted and the miniatures sculpted.

Pledge Manager Pre-order Info
When the pledge manager goes live we will also be opening up the option for people who haven't backed the Kickstarter to Pre-Order items. This will allow people to purchase items they want from the unlocked models in this Kickstarter.

Let us assure you though that our Kickstarter backers will be the first to receive their items. Once the KS has been fulfilled then pre-orders will be fulfilled before finally moving onto general sale in the end.

So, now that's out of the way onto the shininess!

Alternative Fiddler Pose Update
We can also now reveal that the Alternative Pose Fiddler we unlocked will also have an alternative weapons load-out too!

The new weapons will consist of replacing the Fiddler's Left Cannon with a 12mm Railgun and its Right-side Gattling gun to be replaced with an even larger 80mm cannon. The front minigun is to be replaced by a Flamethrower and finally the rear missile launcher is to be swapped out for an FFAR Rocket Pod. Overall some really awesome extra bits of kit!

The 3D Files for the Fiddlers are still being worked on so we can't show them in their current state but rest assured we'll show him off in the next planned update!


Proteus With Chaingun
Is complete! The 3D Files for both the Chaingun and Railgun variants have been sent over to Prodos Games and will be 3D Printed later in the week. As soon as we have the pictures back from Prodos we'll let you know!




TANKS!
We have a bit of a confession to make, after teasing the X4 series of Tanks on the final stretch goal both of us here at WDM decided that we'd unlock them for you all anyway (due to the fact that they are AWESOME!). What this means is that they can be purchased in the Pledge Manager when it goes live should you guys want them.

Below are the finished 15mm-ready renders of the Main Battle Tank (MBT) and Urban Combat Vehicle (UCV).

The tanks will be just over 8cm long so they'll be some seriously intimidating pieces of machinery for your opponent to face off with. Due to this the prices of the tanks has gone above what we initially estimated and will be £15 each.

The 3D Files for the UCV and MBT has been sent over to Prodos Games for 3D Printing and like the Proteus above, will be printed later this week.

The Talos Exo-Suits are currently in the process of being sculpted. We thought we'd show you their current state of work to see how they're taking shape. His lower-half is still very much in need of some TLC and has only the basic blocked-out shapes.

Strix Information
The Strix mech has also begun to be sculpted so we'll have more news on that in the coming weeks as it comes to life.

In Closing...

Overall we're well on target for delivery as everything we can do behind the scenes is now coming to an end. The pledge manager is pretty much complete, the shipping requires finalisation, casting and 3D Printing is confirmed. All that remains for us to get these mini's into your hands is for the Sculptors to finish off their awesome work and get them produced which we can assure you Prodos will blitz through in no-time at all.

Incoming Transmission - Update Time!

...And what an update it is, so sit down, grab yourself a nice cup of tea (or other tasty beverage) and enjoy!

The Fiddler is ready!

That's right, everybody's favourite Mech is now 15mm ready and off to the print-shop at Prodos for 3D Printing. As you can see below, we've changed the leg setup to allow for multiple poses so the originally planned "Alternative Pose" Fiddler is now "Alternative Weapons". This means the big guy can be posed how-ever you like. Running, standing idle, braced and more! He comes in at an amazing 14-piece kit.

With that - Off to the 3D Printer he goes!

Strix Recon Mech

The first of the 2 planned Strix poses has also been completed. The second pose is also currently under-way and as soon as he is complete both will be sent over to Prodos for printing.





4 Urban Combat Vehicle Printed

The X4 UCV has been printed and is therefore ready for casting. All we need to do now is get the Main Battle Tank, Multi-Gun System and Air Defence Platform versions of the X4 printed. Expect renders and print photos soon!

Stocking Up!

We have recently received the first casts of the Fireteam Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Armadillo and Autocannon Proteus - 200 of each! These items are some of the basics to cover the standard pledges (in the case of the Infantry and the Armadillo at least) so we've decided to begin 'the great hoard' in preparation for packing and postage of all your soldiers and machines of war.

Pledge Manager Details

We will be getting the Pledge Manager sent out to you all at the end of the week so you can begin to select what you guys would like for your pledges and more importantly give us your address so we can get these things into your hands and on your battlefields!

There will be the chance for you to add more should you wish it as well as a Pre-Order option for those of you who missed the Kickstarter. Pre-Orders will be dispatched AFTER all of our Kickstarter backers have received their pledges.

Shipping prices have now also been confirmed and will be handled by a local company and friends of ours, Mantic Games. They are no strangers to kickstarters and moving vast quantities of parcels quickly and effectively so we look forward to working with them more in the future!

The big mechs also work great for 28mm automated drones so don't let the 15mm tag put you off if you think they look cool!
The Proteus and Fiddler mechs will be great for manned or unmanned drones and the Strix Recon Mechs will work for more Infantry-sized AI drones, think along the lines of Spectres from Titanfall!

Wow, I'm having trouble comprehending how awesome that Fiddler is... really seems to blow the other models away, I think it is by a different artist?

I had hesitated backing based on the art but the parts look fantastic... extremely tempting! Is there a similar render of the mech with alternative weapons shown on the preorder page? It just has art there but I'd love to see a render like the above which really gives a feel for how it will look when printed.

No we've not seen a render of the alternative weapon for the fiddler just the 'first' one in update 15 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1393708645/marine-tactical-unit-15mm-scale-miniatures/posts/1306415)

so I suspect the new weapons are not done yet

The artist who designed the Fiddler also designed the Armadillo. We're expecting to have the new weapons finished by the end of the week all-being-well.

Pledge Manager Closing Details!

Good morning all!

Today's update is just a quick one as we're still getting items cast up by Prodos and waiting for the pictures of the rest of the items we've sent to them for 3D Printing.

We've had a good number of messages from backers and those who have pre-ordered that they'd like us to keep the pledge manager open for a few more days until the end of the month.

So this acts as the final roll call for everybody and as a reminder for the few of you who haven't touched the pledge manager yet;

PLEDGE MANAGER AND PRE-ORDERS ENTERS FULL LOCK-OUT ON MONDAY 31st AUGUST 23:59 BST.
Please make sure you have completed the Pledge Manager or Pre-Ordered the items you want by Midnight on Monday (British Summer Time).
