Think it would have worked out better if they tried the 'flying infantry' idea on a Unit of 1 Wound Models to begin with, such as the Vespids.
Or simultaneously; it would have benefited the Coldstar Commander to have a Unit or two with the same mobile capabilities he could nestle in... it almost like Independent Characters need that to stay alive after all.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

Even then it takes up a decent chunk of points while not really providing much in the way of firepower or utility. Maybe it can just wait to show up later in the game to be an annoyance or sneak by as a low threat target. Zipping around the backfield might be its calling to pew pew the rear armor of things or annoy artillery type units. Personally though I would rather have 3 crisis suits with double burst cannons than a cold star.
exactly so a deredeo feasts on his tears. in one turn you can drop him, not mention if a plane starts on the field via skyshield and survives one turn, assuming your commander is in the air he is totally inferior to any actual flying MC or flyers
A tarantula with a Hyperios launcher could kill it and its worth <60 points
yes but the deredeo is so much better at shooting at other things too, broadsides n crisis suits are all t4 against his guns they are no match. not to mention the fact that he can glance to death most devilfish chassis vehciles in a single salvo

I think the coldstar suffers the most from the other things in the codex being so god damn good at destroying whatever.

Let's put it this way - I almost put one in a list I was making a few days ago. Then, I realized that for 10 fewer points, I could put 2 Missile pods and a VT on a commander. Better Anti Air for 10 fewer points and can't get grounded. There is nothing the coldstar can do that something else doesn't do better or cheaper. If you could give sig systems or swap out the weapons, then MAYBE it would be a good unit. Even if they changed it to T5 and kept the 3+ armor, that would be better.

Also - I'm pretty sure as a swooping flier - you can't claim cover. So no hiding him. Anyone can shoot him if he's in range, and the model is simply "on the ground" to mark where he is. Much like the base on aircraft.
That's a pretty big hole in your tatics - since your planning on zipping around and hiding.
And "behind enemy lines" in this game just means "closer to Thier guns" since things don't really have a restriction on movement or Los direction. They can face forward and fire backwards as long as it's not a vehicle. And even then they can just pivot. ....
