I can assure you that military personnel get arrested on a regular basis. I also recommend educating yourself prior to making posts that are clearly false and add nothing to the discussion, other than to bear witness to everyone present that you have no idea what you are talking about.

And I'm not saying this to be mean. I actually want you to learn. So please get to it.

Well thank you for your concern I am being earnest in my opinion here that I have made from my own prior experiance. IME, veterans are given undo respect for the simple fact they are a verteran. I have seen them use it for a number of things. They use the "Im a veteran" to excuse themselves of behavior. Or one of my favorites being how veterans opinions are given undo weight on issue(like immigration is one I see thrown around quite a bit.
Yes, I know veterans get arrested, it would be silly to think otherise. Im making a comment on how america hero worship veterans and gives them the benefit of the doubt to much.

Most police departments prefer to let the military handle lower key things like that.

Last year a troop of mine was brutally beaten by another troop in our unit. Alcohol was involved, etc, etc... Police didn't make any arrests, and no charges were pressed, but that doesn't mean there were not repercussions. The hammer came down hard on those involved. I can guarantee that these Marines will be destroyed as well.

Man I wish I could get some of that undo weight dealing with my wife's immigration case, we've been wading through this process for like 2 years. My two cent is that while there are certain things that vets and active duty like me have to deal with, that shouldn't exempt us from the rules, theres enough gak like that already going with crap like riot shield rank.

And as for the jarheads accosting the vietnam vet, just wait untill the military community (or their leadership) out who they are, they'll get theirs.

If you're not in the military you can't understand what it's like to be. Civilians have no duty judging what the military does or why. If they thought that guy was an impostor it's because their training told them he was impostor and they made the right call because their training is right, all your "Facts" and other liberal nonsense don't have any bearing on the situation. If he was actually was a real veteran like he claims, his training would have told him he was an imposer and he would have kicked his own ass. The things we have to put up with these days from these ivory tower academics like "Records" and "Verifiable Information" just makes my blood boil.

oh please, E4 and below don't know gak. Every one of them will have a few days while on active duty, they look like impostors.

Impostors are not a threat to the constitution, and the military has no rights to assault any civilians, you can't even assault those that are under you anymore. Once you throw a punch, you are in the wrong.

I've never understood the idea that serving in the military automatically makes you a hero. You could spend your entire career peeling potatoes, or sat behind a desk. Worthy of respect certainly, for devoting a large part of your life to serving your country. But I typically hold at least a minimum degree of respect anyway for anyone in uniform, military, police, paramedics, firefighters etc.

I have an uncle on my dad's side who served in the army (infantry), never saw combat (according to his 2 brothers, one being my dad) and yet he likes to boast about his service and gives the false impression that he served in the Falklands...he was still in school at the time.

On the flip side, I have another uncle on my mom's side who served in the Royal Navy as a chef/kitchen staff in the Falklands War on one of the ship's that got bombed. Apparently he's never once spoken about the war in 30 years.

A whole crap load of us do that. I rather not talk about it. embellish something, get asked dumb ass questions, feel sorry for, despise for, someone pressing their view on me, how wrong I was, how great I served, what's it like, etc etc etc

Mainly to avoid people like HSM who I can look at and think "Dumbarse" and sip my coffee in peace.

I do get a lot "Thank you for your service."
which I reply "Its all good"

I do take advantage of Military discount. Though I do use shopping coupons to.
I do own tacticool gear but my gear has seen some hard use. Even my 30 rds mags have seen more combat then the average idiots (like the scrubs in question) has time in service.
Seriously? His ribbon bars wasn't straight. I would give them a professional ass chewing for being "Barrack Lawyers" and remind them the old unwritten LAW carved in steel
"Be careful who you talk to because you don't know who you might be talking to."

Though when I do get ask what its like I reply majority of time
"All the free water you can drink."
"Embrace the Suck."
"You offer me a Poptart and I kill you with this plastic spoon"
"Are you a practicing or unpracticing Muslim?"

Though I have talked about some of my experience from over there....
Camelspider (knife-stinger fighting range before the 9mm got it)
MRAP through the front door
A10 strikes
Their version of a Claymore mine by my passenger door going off and spider webbing the ballistic glass (29 layer of laminate and glass)
My first time posting on here and using the term "Paki and Indi" (EXAMPLE)

I for the life of me never have played on my Veteran status or perception of me being a hero on here that I can remember.

Last time I seriously dealt with a spider.....terminated with extreme prejudice with 9mm....it was that big....little (mid size car, be a four door next time) SoB came out from the hole right by where I was resting my 4th point of contact.....10 hardcore combat harden Veterans moved at a high rate of speed out from its AO....except for me. I had to buy time for my Brothers and defend my bag of Smartfood Popcorn (white chedder) I did a fighting withdraw. Almost came down to knife vs mandibles but at last my last three rounds found center mass. Pray, spray, and cuss works sometimes

Sounds reasonable. I'm terrified of any insect or arachnid large enough to potentially wrestle the weapon I'm using to try to smash it away from me.

Anything with more than four legs should be treated as a threat.

Back to the OT, i think this is why you're supposed to report things and not create ad hoc vigilante squads to enact personal justice. I hope they get in (actual) trouble for it, as opposed to a slight slap on the wrist. What they did was wrong on many levels.

Veterans are people, too, so there are good ones and bad ones, smart ones and dumb ones. One of my previous supervisors was a veteran (Marines), and he was the most incompetent idiot I have ever met who couldn't find his butthole with both hands, a flashlight, and a GPS (and one of my other coworkers in the building who was also in the Marines still wonders if they were in the same Marines). An acting supervisor I had after him was also a veteran, was good at his job, an expert in his field, and did well.

Anyway, I would be curious to hear how this all turns out eventually.

Choosing if you want to respect a veteran shouldn't be decided by whether they saw combat or not. The lucky ones are the ones that didn't have to fight. If you want to respect a veteran do it irregardless of the job they did. They all serve a purpose.

Indeed. When you sign up you are talking the risk that you will see combat, not to mention a job that can be very demanding and could take you away from your family for months at a time. That alone is worth respect. If you see actual combat you deserve even more.

Indeed. Combat isn't the only strain that we see in our lives. My wife and I hit our 10 year anniversary just a week ago. Of those ten years, we've been separated for 2 of them due to my service requirements. A year and a half of my 7 year old sons life. I can still count on at least 2 more deployments before I retire, possibly a tour to Korea or Honduras thrown in there as well. I have 6 years left in my career, and I'm looking at the very real possibility I'll spend a third of that further separated from my family.

I've got numerous friends who've seen more combat then any man has a right to. I've got nothing at all but the utmost respect for what they've been through. But that isn't the only measurement of our service, and the sacrifices we've made with it.

I was never in the military (I could never have passed the physical, as I have been very overweight for years and I have a rare skin condition), but I always thank veterans for their service, whether they were ever in combat or not. I work at Walmart, so I see quite a few and even have the privilege of working with a few. For me, it is a way that I can support our military here on the home front.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
