I think the majority of their guns are fused.. maybe it's not enough, but I am pretty sure the left hand of most are usually non-existent, and the right hand.. is kinda a fusion of gun and wrist.

Fluff-wise they are fused, but model-wise...the Fleshborer has a hand holding the 'barrel', another pulling the trigger. Devourer has tubes of something...attached by a hand. Deathspitter...hand. The Venom Cannon looks alright, as the army is splitting in two but still, hand.
The exceptions are the TMC. Exocrine is a perfect example of what I think their guns should look like. Fused to the body.

The Exocrine's gun looks like a protruding protuberance...trying to find a suitable word here...it's fairly phallic, and it makes my wife giggle every time she sees it.

I actually kind of like the swords and claws.
The Tyranids are copycats-they use stolen genetic material and battle experience to ape and counter enemy tactics. They have arms with fingers, swords, guns, bipedal forms etc because that's what's been used against them.
I always have liked the idea of guardsmen gunning down waves of clawed hormagaunts, then the next day they show up and they're firing back with organic lasguns.

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I don't quite remember who, but someone told me that the guns that the tyranid warriors have are other creatures.

Statistics show that if you own a gun you are more likely to get shot by one. So you are right tyranids should not own guns.Take that bolter marines you can't hit us we are unarmed.

On a more serious note.
I always liked the starship troopers plasma bugs.
If you can have those why cant you have smaller bugs that you could pick up and use to shoot stuff with.
There could even be an eventual symbiosis between the smaller and the bigger bug resulting in fused animals.
If you are more a real life example guy take a look at the bombardier beetle. If a simple earth bug can do it an tyranid swarm should be able to do it better : )

jasper76 wrote:IMO, some of the gun models look alot better than others. I think the Fleshborer is one of the weapons where it doesn't work so well, because it has an actual ammo magazine, and that sort of diminishes suspension of disbelief. I think most of the other weapons aren't too bad, though. Spinefists, Venom Cannons, Barbed Stanglers, etc all look a bit more bio and a bit less tech than the standard Fleshborer.
I do completely agree with this. They should not have ammo clips. Sure you could create bio ammo clips but if they look too much like guns then it just looks cheap. Are there players who just cut off all the magazines ?

Guns have the advantage of customization, that way you can add a large variety of weapons to a Tyranid creature with little modification.
All the Tyranids that use guns are basic species known for their variety (Gants, Warriors, Carnifexes, etc), meanwhile the more specialized creatures have weapons more integrated in their bodies (Biovores and Exocrines).

Old codex. Weapon symbiotes are literally other tyranid creatures/hives grafted to the other form.
Tyranids basically grow creatures to serve specific purposes - and weapons are treated the same way.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

Some Nid weapons are actually made up of a number of creatures working together.
As to Nids having lasguns: Yes, back in RT Nids had the same stock weapons that everybody else had e.g. Missile Luanchers, MultiMeltas, Powerfists etc.
Nids have had guns and melee weapons for as long as I can remember. As they now have their own distinct set of weapons it really doesn't bother me.
