No codex is a problem on it's own. Tau eldar marines and necrons, the top four more or less all can take lists that fun, fluffy and not beat face. The problem is the player. No one has so little self awareness to not realize that their list is to much against a new player or one of the weaker books. If the Tau players are willing to play smaller games with less smashface list then everything will be good.

Even basic Tau units require know-how for meqs to handle. That's how tilted the game is towards shooting. Even a low-information tau guy has a massive advantage over low-information marine guy.

LEts not get this started on a Tau hate wagon.
OP, can you tell us, what kind of units are they running. DE have very few effective units

That's why new players should start at 500 and work up slowly. I don't think that Tau are that much godlier than marines though. Additionally they won't stay low information for long if they keep playing and do research. Knowledge is power, guard it closely.
