I made my own regiment for the IG. They're the last surviving regiment (all the surviving regiments were thrown together) from Gryphonne before the Nids ate it all.

Tactically, they're Fortress Defence Specialists and all their units/equipment is based around that in mind.

I've written some fluff but I need to go back and fix errors because I wrote it whilst drunk and it has quite a few grammatical errors atm.

I've designed some sci-fi soldieirs for a story I'm working on. They come from a winter world, the wolf is their planetary sigil and their elite regiments fight in heavy powered armour. That's the extents of their similarities to 40k, but when I got back into the hobby I decided to make a space wolves force with some influences taken from my own creations top give them a bit of individuality. So I've ignored a lot of the fluff and modelled them pretty much as I please, modifying some of the things I dislike about the weaponry and armour.

I've gone for a modern combat look: More realistically proportioned armour -slimmed down shoulder pads, jump packs and cc weapons, lots of equipment and pouches, canvas backapack. Individuals modelled for squad roles like radioman, sniper and spotter. Some of them are even ladies -bound to cause quite a stir at my local GW store! Used a choice of models I prefer too represent certain units. For example I've used a FW Fire Raptor to represent a Stormwolf, and converted a legion of the damned sergeant into a wolf priest. Sourced some shields and helmets from 3rd party sites for storm shields. So nothing too wild, just pretty much modelling things as I want them rather than sticking to convention.

Modelling them has been a slow process, so haven't painted a single thing yet I'm sorry to say. One of these days... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/621329.page

My IG are Mordians but I wrote their characters and fluff. Socially, they're very close to a bunch of folks from a northern English mining town. I guess my roots are showing there.
Hard working, don't shy away from the job at hand, but cover for one another and care deeply if someone's having issues.

I also have a commissar cadet squad (veteran lasgunners on the table) where each member is written by a different Dakka member. They're great fun to use.

Well I made the thread, but I never mentionned mine, derp.

I am playing the 85th Scion Recon Battalion '' The Reforged '', they're specialised in recon, ambush and all that sneaky stuff, the term Reforged comes from the fact that they recruit left over Scions and Guard veterans and integrate them in the unit. There's also an airborne assault element called '' Riley's Fist '' which is the meat of the Battalion when they need to do more than stealth work.

I am in the process of converting my army of CSM to be able to cross the line back into loyalists.

I think primary White color with stripes of Green on the edge of pauldrons and trimmings will allow me to use them as either Dark Angels, DeathGuard. I can then paint over the green stripes with red stripes and now they are White Scars.

Would you guys think I would be able to paint the trimmings and edges with blue and pass them off as ultra marines? Would yellow trimmings be enough to count as imperial fists?

Savage Khorne Berserker Biker

I have a Khorne Daemonkin army called the Brass Stampede. I swear I came up with the name before GW released their AoS bundle of the same name! They copied me! /hipster

It's an army of juggernauts. Juggernauts as spawn, dudes riding juggernauts as bikes. I have ~20 juggerspawn and ~30 juggerbikers. Haven't assembled/painted most of them unfortunately. It's a years-long project that will hopefully get done one day.

HQs are a black D-thirster named "Umbragor the Hopeslayer" and the lord of the Brass Stampede is named "Arctos Gorehowl," and he's riding a dragon (converted carnosaur with bloodthirster wings) who will play as a counts-as bloodthirster. Have a little background fluff here
Spoiler:
Would it shock you to learn, mongrel, that my blade was once sworn to the Great Wolf himself? Many a warrior I laid low at his feet, such was my fervor to please my lord… my father. We butchered worlds in his name, shed oceans of blood to bring glory to our legion.

Such lengths, such bonds of honor among my brothers and our father that we followed him into the Eye itself to confront the forces of damnation. And yet, across the threshold we found ourselves alone, abandoned by our father to the whims of the nether without a second thought. Were we not worthy to fight by his side? How much blood had we shed to bring him victory a thousand times over? And in the end, we were nothing to him, left to perish in the roiling nightmare domain of the gods. Nine of us, left behind as chattel.

With a howl that echoed across the fel realm, I vowed to avenge this dishonor by the one I called father. By axe and tooth and fist, vengeance would be mine. My anger served as a beacon in the warp. My cries of anguish were answered by my true father. The Bloodfather. In my mind, he whispered a bargain by which I would have my revenge. The price was simple: Blood! Skulls!

In weakness my brothers turned their blades against me, decrying my willingness to pursue the eightfold path as madness and my vow of vengeance against Russ as treachery. They accepted their fate, and so I sealed it. Eight skulls I offered as my first tribute to the blood god. It was a hard won triumph to overcome the chosen of the Great Wolf, but my rage and my axe split them apart one by one. With the father vanished, the slaughter of his sons would have to suffice.

I had pleased my god. One more act, he whispered, would cement our bond. With the blood of my slain brothers and that pouring from my own wounds, I drew the skull rune across my mangled breastplate. And so was I anointed. And so was I chosen by the Bloodfather.

How many millennia have passed since my oath of vengeance? Time is meaningless, my memories of Russ distant and ephemeral. Only blood. Only skulls. I command a legion of Khorne’s mightiest warriors. We are The Brass Stampede, and entire systems have been trampled beneath the hooves of our juggernauts.

I am Arctos Gorehowl, warlord of The Brass Stampede, and I will claim your skull.

The KDK book was a perfect solution for my army, because back when we only had the CSM codex I struggled to fit all the fast 12" moving units that I wanted to bring in a list. Now my entire army other than my cultist troops moves 12" each turn and closes the gap rather quickly in a mad charge of juggernauts. Gorepacks, Spawn, Maulerfiends, Heldrakes, Rhinos, etc.

There is a large contingent of the Brass Stampede composed of traitor Space Wolves dedicated to Khorne. At the moment I haven't come up with a final name for them, but I'm thinking of the "Sons of Cerberus" where Cerberus is a daemon of sorts? Haven't figured that out. 20 berzerkers and a Kharybdis to run the Fist of Khorne formation and 30+ marines in Rhinos.

I have some raptors/warp talons but haven't figured out what I'm gonna do with them yet. Same with a few Daemon Princes. Many bloodletters, a couple of skull cannons. Almost 200 cultists eager to die for the blood god.

Also a group of war machines and superheavies. 2 blood slaughterers, 2 daemon knights of khorne, a kytan, and a brass scorpion.

The Kumonga Swarm
Already embroiled in war between Imperial Forces and the Eldar, Kumonga was blindsided by a Tyranid assault that devasted both space fleets, and had the unintentional consequence of stranding all three on the planet. Originally a Kraken splinterfleet, the Kumonga swarm has developed its own unique coloration(dark brown carapace with beige chitin). It is currently isolated to the southern part of the single Supercontinent by a large desert- which has become a No-Man's Land by the various tunneling organisms the Swarm keeps developing.

Among the Swarm's various bio-beasts, the most noteworthy is the "Bane of Kumonga", an eight-limbed winged Hive Tyrant. It is currently believed to be the main synaptic lynchpin of the Swarm. Somehow, the Swarm keeps developing new bio-beasts; even ones that were not present at the time of its initial invasion. Even a Swarmlord has been seen among its ranks, although not for long-nor has it been explained why it appeared subordinate to the "Bane of Kumonga" during the few encounters with both. Currently the largest Tyranid encounter has been a Hierodule(Scythed), although there are rumors of larger things spotted lurking in the corrupted jungle the Swarm has claimed for itself.

Kabal of the Grieving Widow

Ironing out some kinks, but the general idea is a Succubus consort of the former Archon arranged his demise, and after taking his place renamed it to suit her own vanity. Incorporating the close ties between Kabal and her Cult the force involves a few strike teams of Bloodbrides and Wyches, a blob of Kaballite Warriors providing backup with objective defense, and several venoms/raiders of more armed Trueborn and Warriors.

The Kabal is on good terms with the Aerie of the Dark Cloud and includes several units of Scourges. Another trade partner with the Kabal is the Haemonculus Coven "Spiral of Sorrow" which has been capturing Tyranid(and of course Imperial) specimens from Kumonga-adapting them for use in the Cult's tournaments, and experimenting with the various strains to create new horrors. A secret project of the Coven has been experimentation with Genestealers, and their various hybrid offspring[lucky me they're releasing the Deathwatch vs Gene Cult game soon!].

I made a custom Grey Knight detachment. Each model is named with a small history. The group is the Praesidium Sancti Milites Psychiacas ("Sacred Order of Psychic Soldiers", I know, so creative). It's a Paladin squad escorting a Grandmaster, with two Terminator units under them, an affiliated Librarian and an Interceptor squad for fast support. They're tasked with investigating warp presence on a Knight World and thus usually have 1 Imperial Knight allied into the detachment (fittingly, a Paladin) as they investigate and purge Chaos cults.

Yep - I love custom armies. Running a custom army contest over at Variance Hammer (there's still time! http://variancehammer.com/contest/ ) and they've always been part of the game for me.

I've got four:

- Egil Moonbreaker's Great Company. Not so much a custom army entirely as a custom Space Wolf Great Company, that's located in the timeline at about 35 or 36K. Basically void-war themed Space Wolves.

- The Altairan 72nd. A custom Imperial Guard air cavalry regiment from the rather unpleasant world of Altair IV, where extremely rugged terrain and frequent raids by Kabalites have necessitated largely fortified, underground enclaves defended by swift, airborne reaction forces. Those regiments also go out to serve in the greater Imperium. They've participated in a couple narrative campaigns I've run, and some play-by-post 'Only War' style RPGs, and are at present seconded to an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor.

- Void Wind Corsairs. Former members of a fallen Craftworld, they blame the inflexibility of Craftworld life for the steady but inevitable decay of the Eldar race. Having gone mercinary, they do a great deal of raiding and playing the long game, seeking to restore the Eldar to power, or at least properly temper those that will follow them. Great for when I need a "Grey" faction that can be dropped into a good-guys or bad-guys team.

- The Huntsmen (nee The Angels Vigilant). A fleet-based Dark Angels successor chapter that was created to ensure that never again would Terra be without the defense of the 1st Legion, and to draw a little fire away from the Unforgiven by very visibly supporting other Imperial forces. They've gotten a little tangled up with a number of Chaos warbands, lost their homeworld (hence being the fleet based chapter) and have gone all-in with the whole Hunting the Fallen thing. Especially noted for supporting the Imperial Fleet during the battle for Port Maw during the 12th Black Crusade (I like void war, can you tell?)

I play orcs. Orcs who are Imperial Guard. Orcs who are Imperial Guard which are actually Renegades and Heretics. They're also purple.

It's kind of complicated.

Fluff wise they're an off-shoot of some ancient Waaagh from before the Heresy. Somehow they became marooned in a desolate system near the edge of the EoT. A little grouping of ice ball planets of which one or two were Imperium-level advanced humans, and one held a sporadically active demon gate.

The orks lacked the technology to leave system and given the unfathomably rough conditions of the area combined with the occasional demonic incursions from the Demonic Gateway, they never found the time or inclination to wipe out the nearby human planets. Thousands of years of exposure to warp energy also stunted their growth, made their spores much less durable, and also made their spores require very specific (cold) conditions.. But also made the Orks much more intelligent.

Over time their conditions created a sort of.. perfect storm. Recovered information from abandoned Imperial tech which mentioned things like the Emperor, Heresy / Heretics, ect ect combined with the legends of where these specific orks came from to give them.. ideas.

Eventually a fleet of guard forces requisitioned by an inquisitor entered the system, intent on dealing with the demon gate that was becoming steadily more active. They succeeded but at great cost and then turned their attention towards the local Orks. The Orks wiped them out through their unconventional tactics such as extensive use of flanking, kommando saboteurs, and luring guard forces into pre-sighted kill zones where they were annihilated by mass artillery. Shortly after the combined guard and inquisition forces were destroyed a space-hulk finally entered system, the Orks all got on board and left.

From there they made contact with barbarous green-skins and came to the conclusion that they were 'herorktics' which had been corrupted, and needed to be purged.

Now they fly around the fringes of the galaxy conquering ork worlds and preaching a mantra of "da green is unclean". They'll bound orb warbands and worlds into submission before taking them prisoner, at which point they'll execute all of the nobz / bosses / meks / ect and then recondition the run-of-the-mill boyz to believe that they're mutants and their only way to the love of "da empork" is serve as suicidal shock-troops.

Basically it's a Renegades and Heretics army which uses great-coat orks as most units, regular green-skin orkz as mutant rabbles / spawn, and lots of looted imperial vehicles.

The Storm Guard. Ultramarines successors of the 26th founding. The Storm Guard uphold the ideals of their parent chapter by strictly adhering to the wisdom of the Codex Astartes. The Storm Guard, being the young chapter that they are, lack much in the way of rare or ancient equipment. They can only muster up to twenty suits of functioning Indominitus-pattern Terminator armor, for example.

An intense fire burns in the belly of every Storm Guard as they seek to forge a mighty history for their Chapter. Though their glories are few in comparison to the more venerable chapters the Storm Guard shall prove their worth to not only the rest of the Imperium but to the Emperor himself.

Basically, I wanted to go for what I felt was a "Typical" Space Marine chapter in M.41. An Ultramarines successor that sticks with the Codex Astartes and isn't decked out in all kinds of fancy old wargear.

I have yet to come up with a name or fleshed out backstory for my Dark Mechanicum Forgeworld, but I've got a general idea for the three major parts of it though. A cabal of Hereteks seeking to free themselves of the religious constraints of the Adeptus Mechanicus break away alongside the rest of the DarkMech, enslave a feral world in the Eye of Terror, and set the citizenry to work converting the world into a Forge World. The primitive denizens of this world, having witnessed the might of the machine in the form of reprogrammed combat servitors and loyal Skitarii the Hereteks brought with them, quickly formed a new Tech-Cult under the guidance of their new cybernetic overlords.

In order to defend their enterprise, the Cabal soon forms a militant wing (might call it something like the "Aspirants of Iron") of the Tech-Cult. I plan on representing the Aspirants of Iron with IG that I'm going to paint in a similar manner to War Boys from Fury Road (white skin paint, a dash of metallic paint around the mouth, and maybe black face paint for officer models). Aspirants who prove themselves (namely by surviving battles) are eventually raised to the Skitarii (which I'm thinking of calling " The Steelcast").

After getting setup somewhere in the 10,000 or so years between the Horus Heresy and where we are now, this Hellforge can now call upon its own Chaos Marine warband (I can't think of a good metal themed name). This warband was created through secrets and technology that a wayward Warpsmith offered in exchange for asylum and a position within the Cabal.

I've got 3 total (my Tzeentch Daemons are failry generic "lol Daemons") The Blood Viper Orks, Sisters of the Remorselss Dawn (SoB), and Xenarite Exploratory Fleet Omega VIII

Blood Vipers
Spoiler:
My Orks are a fusion of Snakebites and Blood Axes and used to fight like it was WWI. So a bunch of Boyz with Shootas supported by mass artillery fire. I've actually made up rules for all of my Waaaghs leaders and was even gonna make them a unique army list, which i need to update as most of the rules they reference no longer exist or just plain suck now

The leaders are:

Warlord Grimmor Skraga- wields a massive Cleaver and actually thinks Grots are useful

Bad Dok Gorkul "Da Burna Dok"- He dual wields Skorchas and can restore D3 wounds to his unit instead of shooting

Big Mek Ironteef- Master of all things Boom he has a Burna Squig (read burna) and his Zzappa Stikk which functions as a KFF or can be shut off to be used as a gun. Oh and he lets Grotz buy Stikkbombz and throw extra ones depending on the unit size.

Goron the Iron Ork- Leads the Blood Viper Wild Riders (Orks on wolves) has Outflank and lets him and his unit assault from Outflank (i made him in 5th when this was a normal thing )

Other than that i had Grotissars (Grot Commissars) Orks riding Chaos Hounds, Grot Tanks and then swapped a bunch of stuff out.

Sisters of the Remorseless Dawn
Spoiler:
These Sisters where founded by Selena "Halo" Dawnfire and have had trouble with the Ecclesiarchy because of their view on mutants, specifically the stable kind. Instead of being purged, the Sisters believe that they should have a chance to atone for the sin of being mutants, so they give them weapons and armor and field them in large Penitent Regiments and have them fight alongside the Sisters.

The Ecclesiarchy didn't like this and had Cannoness Dawnfire assassinated, which in turn caused the Sisters to head for the fringe of Imperial space, which is where they found Traxis Prime. Traxis had a large Beastmen population, most of whom worshiped the Emperor. So the Sisters did what they did and got some new Penitent Regiments and are now working to cleanse the sector of Chaos taint

Mechanically they are Sisters with Guard allies, and i just use Beastmen for the Guard and Minotaurs for the Ogryns..

Xenarite Exploratory Fleet Omega VIII
Spoiler:
My Skitarri/Cult Mech army. They are led by a radical Tech Priest named *REDACTED* and have a tendency to mix human and Xenos tech in arguably heretical ways. The most obvious is in their Kastellan Robots as they look nothing like the STC says they should. Otherwise they use other Servitor variants to fill out their forces.

I use Cryx Helljacks for my Kastellans, Thallaxes for my Kataphrons and Mutant Wargame Chronicle minis for my Vanguard. Otherwise they are pretty standard Xenarites.

I try and base my characters and armies in fluff as much as possible, and I always concoct an interesting and cohesive colour scheme for them.

My Raven Guard have evolved a bit over the years, but I'm now thinking they'd be a battlegroup commanded by Master of Shadows Edric Korbijn circa M38. My idea for the story is that newly-inaugurated Master Kayvaan Shrike will approach Venerable Brother Albicollis (and ancient Dreadnought of the 1st Comoany) on the eve of the battle for the Kiavahr System, which the Orks are trying to invade at the close of M41. Albicollis will tell Shrike the story to teach him fortitude in the face of doubt and adversity.

My Guard not only have their own fluff, but I've used Victrix Napoleonic models to represent them. This is because Fallax was still a developing world when a Chaotic influence became strong enough to plunge the whole planet into a civil war. The Imperium, specifically a Rogue Trader who had until then been studying its societal development, was forced to intervene. Because of a shortage of time and manpower it was deemed necessary that the native regiments be formally inducted into the Astra Militarum, armed and trained to minimal Guard standards, and then quickly mobilised in defence of order on Fallax. So you have Napoleonic-era tactics and pagentry, but units that sport Lasguns.

Finally, my Tau were designed with a slightly different, smaller-scale story in mind. Shas'el Yano Xao'ling was a Fireblade leading a small patrol into the Polar Tundra of Bork'an, to scout the location for a future outpost of one of the Fire Caste's training academies. What she finds will unlock the mysteries of the demise of the ancient Poctroon who once inhabited the icy world, and may have ramifications for the whole of the Tau Empire.

All three of these armies are represented in my gallery.

Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds

My own Necron dynasty. The character I focus on isn't even the Phaeron. In fact he's trying to usurp power from him and take over the galaxy and crush all opponents. Of course I want to make this seem as real as possible so this won't ever happen but with each battle I play I want his story to advance a little bit. Here's what I have so far. It's not too fleshed out but I like it.

during the war of secession, the Nehenmut fought under the command of a dynasty who's name has long since been lost to time, a minor noble at the time, Khedepses thought this infighting was pointless. He saw squabbling lords and petty rivalries that brought shame to the Necrontyr. Though he dutifully followed orders for his dynasty, and was promoted to control a sizeable force of warriors, a spark of rebellion had been lit in the generals heart. Khedepses and nearby tomb worlds awoke in early M41. Khedepses saw the opportunities this new universe offered him and took control of the nearby tomb worlds forcibly. He seceded from the greater Nehenmut dynasty and began a civil war. A civil war he can only hope to win if he can stop the belligerent space marines from threatening his domain. After they are dealt with, and the other Phaerons see his might and skill, who's to say he won't be unstoppable?

Ultra-Ultramarines are a great idea.
