For a 'Lazy' Scheme, i went with...
Spray Black
Drybrush with Enchanted blue (Dont know the rename)
Wash with Nuln Oil
Wash some parts with a green wash (i used Thinned Ork flesh wash, still dont know the rename but this part is optional)
1-1 of Leadbelcher and Runefang steel
Wash with Nuln oil
Highlight with Necron Compound

I use this one for mine, and I am quite happy(much better results than with tamya green-blue combo on silver, and less work). You might find few other colors from their range to be good for them
Or you can even mix em(I use few).

NECROTHREAD LIVES!
Still a relevant topic years later.

I took at look at the alpha legion color scheme of the books, FW and 40k. I then threw up my hands and yelling obscenities decided to do them all.

I started with the Azure-sky range on vellejo, then weathered the edges with some irons, trimmed with gold and made all the cloth elements purple. Throw on some weathering powders then a final coat of green shade in all the dark areas or areas that could use a glow effect. Lots of rust, and done.

this color.

I've sprayed chainmail into silver and then top down with clear green and bottom up with clear blue.

Interesting thread resurrection. I've often been put off doing Alpha Legion due to the inherent fiddly-ness of the colour scheme but with the imminent release of the new GW contrast paints, I wonder if one can use a metallic spray base with a blue/green/teal contrast paint over the top?

The Alpha Legion have a wide variety of colour schemes. I adore the one Forgeworld paints not, with the metallic blue/green. That's the way I paint mine (though they look more blue than green).

For those that want an easier way than to use an airbrush with transparent paints over metallic, Raptor Imperialis on Instagram is a famous Alpha Legion player that uses metallic sprays from Tamiya. Check this out: https://www.instagram.com/p/BqCrpxTH0mr/

He's an incredible painter, and he just uses Tamiyas metallic blue spray for the armour base. Simple but very effective.

Alpharius? Never heard of him.

Contrast does give pretty good results over metallics. Like inks with denser pigment.

Yeah, they're pretty much "more or less blue and/or green" and exactly what that means is up to you to exercise your individual judgement.

It isn't like they haven't changed over the editions, anyway.

This was their 2nd and early 3rd edition look:

with the 3.5 codex giving them a much darker blue, adding slight green highlights and brightening the metallic trim

and then 5th edition rolled around with a new tweak

And in 1st ed their livery looked like this:

Yep. I got my start in 2nd ed, so to me the Alpha Legion is dark bluish purple. This crazy looking teal the GW artists have come up with doesn't work for me, maybe some band of Slaaneshi Alphas came up with that but we don't recognize them in our part of the Legion

This will be very interesting with the new contrast paints. GW have suggested (at least visually) that a silver base coat with one of the teal contrast paints should produce an awesome Alpha Legion colour scheme.

That 2nd ed. scheme used Regal Blue and Boltgun Silver, for what it's worth. It's what I originally did mine in as well.

For current 30K Alpha Legion I airbrush silver metallics, and then do Minitaire Ghost Tints on top. Blue first, and then Plasma Fluid. Comes out looking very similar to the original FW AL scheme.

I would try airbrushing that Contrast on... Even mix it with Calth blue clear for more color shifting.

This is pure(well, diluted, because only a madman would use that thing straight from a bottle ) Timiya over drybrushed silver.
