I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Just because someone hates the game and refuses to play it, doesn't mean they are continually responsible for all the negativity on dakka.
I refuse to play AoS - and dislike some of the new models, but GW still make some quality kits that I will buy to use as fantasy models in other games. For that reason, I frequent this forum to see new fantasy models, new projects and people's paint schemes.

Please rethink your white knight view that because people hate AoS, they hate GW and hate the models. Those 3 things do not all go hand in hand.

But at the same time you just came out with a white knight view. Almost everyone here understands and accepts that not everyone likes GW or their models but frequent things on here to see other stuff much as you do, the key portion here is negativity and posts on viable threads trying to down play it and basically getting into a thread just to be negative. Deadly's point was that on these dakka threads there are less people vocally being negative against AoS than those who enjoy it, something that to some new people may seem opposite as the vocally negative are very vocal. From your post I dont feel you would be one of those people as you do pull some value out of these forums to meet your own needs but to "ride out" and claim his comment was a white knight comment was a miss judgement on your part. I dont believe he directed that to people who dont like AoS, just those that get on the AoS threads to moan and whine about the sky falling.

As stated, AoS isnt for everyone and thats cool, but no one like it when negative people come into a conversation that they dont need to be in just to be negative. If you dont like the game play a different game and go enjoy yourself on that games forums.

Also sure, the poll is a bit biased and F'd towards people who dont like AoS, but in a forum of a game system you dont play does that really bother you?

Hahaha I love this. It takes me back straight to the discussions around the time when 8th edition hit and people were bashing it. Same arguments - vocal minority, internet hate but shops are swarming with new players, it's only angry waac douches, it's just change etc. There were pols like 20 to 1 positive to negative about 8th (something that rather won't happen with AoS lol) and a bright new future of steadfast, random and terrains eating people.

We all know how it ended, don't we.

Well I just finally got a game of 40K. So I thought I finally found some people who like to game. One problem. Non of them think AoS is any good. Nobody even wants to try it and someone said they don't want to invest in it for something that is not a good game.

So still out of luck for finding a game of AoS. :(

AoS is the kind of game I'd turn down even if it was the only game around. I'd rather take a nap than play this annoying snoozefest of a cashgrab. It's the most ineptly written commercial wargame I've played (and the term "game" applies very loosely), and I don't see a future for it short of a complete rewrite.

I started this hobby because of AoS. Walked into my local GW because I've been interested in 40K for a while, playing video games, reading books, and playing the 40K Roleplay with my RPG group. After seeing all of the fantasy models and seeing how it was a new game, I dug it immediately and bought the starter box.

Then after going online to look up ideas on armies or figure out where I wanted to go next, I saw all of the negativity and people spouting doom and how it is failing. It really got to me, making me think I picked the "wrong" game and that it was a horrible idea to invest in it since it was "dying and costing GW buckets of cash". I should have really paid attention to my local scene, where the GW store has equal 40K and AoS players, both groups who are super positive about the games, really welcoming, and just want to play games and get more people involved.

I ended up pivoting because of the AoS negativity to 40K and while I love that game too, reading the rulebook felt like reading a textbook for homework, instead this textbook had a bunch of if, then statements all over the place. I would read one rule on a page, then a few pages later, read how that rule was not nullified if this happened, then again in a few pages, how that previous rule was nullified if this happened. It was maddening. I would have given up if, again, I didn't have that supportive group at the local GW store to teach my and be super patient.

So I intend to grab the Flesh Eater Courts for the summer AoS league my GW is running. I think there is more than enough room for both games.

For (potential) new players of AoS, it is important to remember that all the opinions floating around the internet about AoS are loud, misunderstood, and given at least some ephemeral validity by simple virtue of being written down. They also are nearly all irrelevant to your local AoS community or lack thereof.

Don't take what you read here too seriously. If you are interested in AoS, find your local AoS community and play! Contrary to inflated internet opinion, there are hundreds of groups playing around the world. If you're not so lucky, start your own. If you can get just one friend started playing and having fun, you can find another person to join. Soon you'll have a little gaming group going. If your group isn't as big as the 40k (or Warmahordes or Infinity or Chess Club) group or doesn't run giant biannual tournements, who cares? If internet trolls rag on your game, make or join a Facebook page for AoS. As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.

TL;DR version. The internet is NOT real life. Stop taking it so seriously and enjoy playing with your army men!

I completely agree. As I am new to this hobby, I was more susceptible to forum talk since I felt I didn't have the experience to know the faults and that others were seeing something I wasn't. Combine with the fact that I came to AoS about a year after it's debut and I felt I was in the wrong playground, so to speak.

Truth is, I rather love the setting, models and ruleset. More detailed mechanics are in the warscrolls and I rather like the fact that I can see PDFs of my opponents warscrolls so I can familiarize with their army.

That's all really cute but truth is, it goes both ways. Someone could come and write a story about how, inspired by overwhelming positivity on the forum, he/ she bought into the game, books and all but found it rubbish after a few games. Won't happen here ofc thanks to us guardian angels but imagine the ramifications of leaving you positive guys alone.

Not to mention that, in this day and age of Internet, people should be able to make their own damn mind about things.

C) not in the rulebook a ton during the game

Waiting optimistically for the FW rumor about them handling LOTR to be true.

Kings of War is too generic for my tastes and 9th age is ... well... definitely more complex and rules heavy IMO which is the opposite of what I find enjoyable.

Point A here is why I love it so much. I play 40K as well and at one of my AoS games there was two 40K players at the next table arguing very heated about some rule......swear I was going to see a table flip. Im meeting better gamers in my area though who are just as laid back as I am with 40k and love AoS so its looking up as I plunge back into the hobby.

Eh, it goes both ways. If the poll was just everyone voting that they loved it, then the answer would be "well, it's just all those outside haters that are the problem."

Really, I don't see much of a point to this thread, it the perfect opposite of "How many you who post in this forum hate AOS?" Discussion would be better served talking about AOS itself as opposed to patting ourselves on the back for the love of the game (or vice versa, coming here just to "gripe").

I play on a regular basis once a month, and try to get in another game or two time permitting.
We play in a fairly casual environment which I'm quite enjoying. Really, it allowed me to make a small warband of Chaos warriors which given the size that Warhammer Fantasy was played at, was never going to happen under 8th ed (or 9th or KoW).
I kind've echo what someone else in the thread said, I enjoy that Age of Sigmar has made it reasonable to play games in the 30-50 model range so it allows me to collect small piece meal forces.
It's certainly reigned in my buying habits a bit. For stuff I've bought for the current army, the only stuff I likely won't use are a box of Chaos Warriors and a Daemon Prince (The Prince I got as part of a bulk buy anyway, and won't use only because I already have Be'Lakor).

My question for most of you would be: how many of you played Warhammer Fantasy before AoS? Because, that would make a big difference.

For me, I started playing when I was 13 years old. That was back in 1986. I have six 2,000 point Fantasy armies. I play Mordheim. I used to play Warhammer Fantasy Role-play. I have read all of the BL books, and I have listened to all of the BL digital productions.

So, I was a Warhammer Fantasy fan. Then, GW killed something that I loved, and replaced it with AoS.

So, before you all start mocking WAAC players and "haters", you might want to have a little more understanding of what actually happened, rather than bash people.

GW killed something that some of us spent YEARS caring for. I have spent THOUSANDS on Warhammer Fantasy over the last 20 years. And, I'm not some super geek that lives in my parent's basement. I'm a normal guy that was a fan of a great fantasy world.

Now, I have only a distant reflection of what I used to love. And, that is slowly going away as well.

So, I'm glad that some of you are enjoying AoS. I hope that you keep playing, and buying miniatures, because this will keep GW in business.

But, try to be a little more understanding about some of the "haters" out there. Some of us lost everything. Just keep that in mind...

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

6,800 Pts. Ultramarines, 1,500 Pts. Deathwatch, 1,000 Pts. Black Templars, 1,000 Pts. Blood Ravens, 1,000 Pts. Emperors Children, 2,000 Pts. Word Bearers, 3,500 Pts. Eldar (Alaitoc or Biel-tan), 2,000 Pts. Tau, 2,000 Pts. Sisters of Battle, 999 Pts. of Thousand Sons, 1,000 Points Dark Eldar, 1,000 Points Adeptus Arbites, 1,000 Points Freebooters, 1,000 Points "Last Chancers", 1,000 Points Tyranids, 1,000 Points Necrons

2,500 Pts. Brotherhood, 2,000 Pts. Undead, 2,000 Pts. Sylvan Kin Elves, 2,000 Pts. Empire of Dust, 3,000 Pts. Orcs with Goblin Allies

Short answer, I didn't play Fantasy before AoS.

Long answer, I didn't play Fantasy before AoS, but I still don't play AoS now because of no players. That being said, to be fair, there was no Fantasy players or 40K players at that time either for me. Even if there were Fantasy players, I wouldn't have been playing it either. So answer is AoS got me into Fantasy.

*edit* No I shouldn't say AoS got me into Fantasy. GW changing their policy, attitude, and the better valued price of their new boxes and some books I got into Fantasy. I still haven't bought any Sigmarines outside the AoS starter boxset. All my other purchases were basically reboxed Fantasy minis.

I didn't play Fantasy before AOS.

I played 40K every week, while there were folks playing WFB on the tables next to me. I actually bought a number of WFB books too but I just couldn't get into it. It was like another whole rule set and army investment that was too heavy.

Since AOS though, I've started a small Dwarf army. I play it weekly now alongside 40K at my local GW.

I still like 40K (for its setting) but AOS is a fun add alongside it.

played alot of mordheim, didnt really like fantasy rules much but the setting was really appealing so gave it a go. My son loves AoS, so I play it with him. Our nearest FLGS wont touch it with a ten foot pole, but neither of us want to play warmahordes, so we are getting to a point were AoS is getting...way too same.

I played a fair bit of it the summer it came out, I had loads of nurgle and chaos bits, so within a week or two of launch I had a nice new army on round bases, 2/3rds painted (in the mean time I'd used my ogres and dark elves). After a dozen games against as many opponents, my enthusiasm waned, every game just seemed to end up in a big fight centre table. Haven't played it at all since last August, and lost the motivation to finish the army.

I love playing AoS, I really only have two problems with it:

1: Armies with only "big" things. For example Seraphon armored with three Carnosaurs and 7 Saugus warriors.

2: Battleshock. The fact that your models can run away and never return really annoys me, especially because it makes ranged attacks extremely over powered. I have played with home rules that allow your "runaways" to return to the battlefield, but still... I like 8th edititions morale rules better...

Most people don't play scenarios I've found because scenarios cost money. So they just stick to the default scenario in the free rules... which is probably the worst scenario for fun ever made lol.

During the time he used to play there was only the AoS base rulebook (the first one) which, to be honest, isn't the best book to spend your 45 quid on... Maybe the stormcast battletome was already out at this time, but I'm not sure. In mid July last year the variety of scenarios (as well as the scenario mentality) simply didn't exist yet.
