I as well love terminators, fluffy dark angels lists, and not getting tabled, and in the words of meatloaf, "two out of three ain't bad". Dark angels have it better than most, with twin linked on deep strike turn, no rolling for reserves, no scatter within a huge bubble around the raven wing, mixing terminator types, grim resolve, etc. Even with all of that I think they are massively overcost, a deathwing terminator is 40 points a model, and they are inferior in just about every way to two bolter equipped tac marines. At 25-30 points per un-upgraded model they might have a place, but at 40 there is no way.

Thing is, I'm really trying to put together a semi competitive list with them, because I love the models and the deathwing fluff. This is stymied by the fact they hit like wet noodles and have a higher cost per effective wound than tac marines, so it's tough to find a useful niche for them. Then again people go to ITC events with Orks, so maybe my insistence on every model pulling it's weight is inhibiting my having fun fluffy armies.

For the record, my fix for terminators would be to make storm bolters salvo 2/4, and have terminator armor give +1 toughness. The extra toughness won't do much against plasma but will help against volleys of shots, and salvo 2/4 means that even an unupgraded squad of terminators could put down a respectable number of shots. It won't make them a FoTM unit but will bring them to within throwing distance of useful, so I'd feel less bad about taking them.

One trick to making plain, ordinary Imperial Terminators semi-functional is figuring out the buff chain. Between GK (for Sanctuary, Hammerhand, and Gate of Infinity), Deathwatch (for the Beacon Angelis), and most of Imperial Agents (for masses of psychic dice, rerollable saves in melee, bonus Warlord Traits, and all the other stupid s*** Inquisitors can bring along) you can stitch together a pretty funny giant deathstar if you aren't worried about the overkill problem.

(Henchmen Warband formation, Ordo Malleus, stick enough monkeys in and you've got 36" range Rending Storm Bolters on the GK Terminators in that unit.)

I don't want to be two cheesy in my army... I already have a knight titan, a stormraven and two stormtalons... I don't want to seem to cheesy because I want people to play me and It's just a game for me where I can blow off some steam... destroying the enemies of the Imperium! Anyway those 4++ terminators seem alright to me for now.

Ten Terminators and a Chapter Master is only cheesy if you try to run up and punch it in the face. The hard counter to most Terminators is to walk away slowly.

I would recommend buying 10 snapfit Terminators from either AOBR or Dark Vengeance on Ebay or something before you do anything stupid.

You could use these as a base for a Terminator unit if you did decide you just had to have them and otherwise you could figure out what's wrong with them real fast without spending an arm and a leg. Plus a bunch of cheapo models.
