It was an illegal firearm. He got it from somewhere. That somewhere may have been co-conspirators.

He could have taken a day trip to a gun show out of state. Pretty sure there are more than a few cash in hand, heres-yer-gun, kind of transactions there.

Or, the more likely story, he just bought it in a back alley deal. If he acquired it illegally.

Can we please not turn this into a gun control thread?

Or he could have bought it on the street. Lots of crackheads and tweakers are willing to "part" with one for a few bucks.

You are right. Sorry.

However, I will bow out at this point. My views on Islam and terrorism, while based on intellectual perspectives, would ruffle a few feathers on a predominately left-leaning board. And I'm not going to be the cause of another OT storm.

Its not a major deal, I just thought it would be another way to nab co-conspirators.

Handguns would require an FFL transfer and most FFLs will refuse to transfer handguns to people who don't possess an ID from that state. I'm not sure on the legality, but I've yet to meet an FFL who WOULD transfer a hand gun to a non-resident.

Was he a NJ or NY resident? If so, we should definitely consider the possibility of co-conspirators as somebody sold him a gun under the table. Handguns aren't exactly hard to come by, but it'd be nice to nail someone else on terrorism charges.

Also strangely pleasing to see the usual suspects chalking this up to literally anything BUT Islamic Terrorism.

Seems the perp lived above the family restaurant in NJ.

On Monday, Federal agents searched Rahami's apartment in Elizabeth, located above the First American Fried Chicken restaurant that is owned by his family. According to multiple reports, surveillance led the FBI to stop the car with Rahami's relatives on Sunday night, while on their way to New York's JFK airport. They were detained for questioning, but not arrested.

On a surly Warboar, leading the Waaagh!

Meanwhile, the Libertarian POTUS candidate weighed in yesterday on CNN, regarding the attacks.

CNN- Libertarian presidential nominee Gary Johnson on Sunday said he was glad no one had been injured during the recent attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota - but the incidents caused dozens of injuries.

"I'm just grateful that nobody got hurt," Johnson said on CNN when asked about the attacks.

So they caught the guy and his bail is set at 5.2 million. Like why does he even have the option for bail? He's suspected of committing multiple acts of terrorism and shot two cops. Seems like exactly the kind of thing bail is denied for.

Yeah... that does seem a tad odd. Then again, maybe I watch a little to much Law and Order, and remand is a rare thing?

No bail bondsman will take it, there's no way a guy with money problem can front the 10% (0.52 million), and the judge didn't want to say the words "Bail Denied" for whatever reason.

However, this is a "Bail Denied" in technicality, which is best ality.

Pretty sure best ality is when Sub-Zero rips the other guys head off with the spine still attached.

They've charged Rahami with Fed charges including use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Being denied bail isn't being denied due process. Lots of people are simply denied bail if they are considered a threat to public safety or a flight risk.

For those readers who equate a weapon of mass destruction with a chemical/biological/nuclear weapon (unless we're talking about Iraq, in which case people only think of nuclear weapons...) Federal criminal law defines it as any "destructive device" defined as any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas – bomb, grenade, rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces, missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter ounce, mine, or device similar to any of the devices described in the preceding clause
